        가구 용어 연구 II - 전통가구 종류 및 경첩을 중심으로 -

        This study describes the furniture terms in English relating to the types (Jang, Nong, Bandazi) and hinges (Gyeongchup) of traditional Korean wood furniture considering furniture globalization. Traditional Western chest, commode, wardrobe, cupboard, secretary, cabinet, and bookcase, which store something such as clothing, books, tablewares, small things and so on, could be compared with the Jang, Non, and Bandazi in terms of the pieces' use in researching the terms between English and Korean language. Hardwares decorating surfaces of the pieces, including the furniture types and details, were studied according to the shapes and the uses in order to explore the two terms. As a result, the terms of chest (Gaew), commode (Seolapjang), cupboard/buffet (Chanjang), wardrobe (Ottjang), cabinet (Jang), secretary (Jang), bookcase (Checkjang), and Half-opened chest (Bandazi) were analyzed and proposed in Korean and English language. In addition, the terms of the hinges between the two furniture were studied as well.

        Critical Discourse of Postmodern Aesthetics in Contemporary Furniture (III) - Consideration of the Ecology of Our Environment in New Design Furniture in terms of the Postmodern Aesthetics of Communication

        이 논문은 우리 환경의 생태계 보호를 위하여 뉴 디자인 가구가 어떻게 창조되고 있는지를 연구하였다. 즉, 오늘날 포스트 모던 시대에 뉴 디자인 가구 디자이너들이 환경 문제의 해결점의 하나로 새롭고 다른 방향으로 자신들의 가구를 창조할 수 있는가에 관한 담론이다. 우리가 안고 있는 생태계 보호를 위한 가구를 디자인할 때 필요한 재사용 및 재활용이 가능한 재료들, 유행을 초월한 가구, 가구의 견고성, 대량 생산 가구 등이 심각하게 분석되었다. 이 분석에 따르면 뉴 디자인 가구 디자이너들은 재활용된 재료들, 주거 환경 및 지속성, 새로운 가구 미학을 내포한 새로운 가구 디자인 철학을 얻을 수 있었다. 대량 생산된 가구는 경제성 때문에 많은 대중에게 접근되는 좋은 점보다는 우리에게 더 많은 쓰레기 더미를 준다라는 사실이 뉴 디자인 가구 다자이너들에게는 매우 심각한 문제였다. 따라서 가구 디자이너들이 양보다는 질에 중점을 둔 가구를 창조하는 것이 필요하다는 것이다. 결론적으로 환경적 책임을 느낀 뉴 디자인 가구 디자이너들은 튼튼하면서 재활용될 수 있으며 유행을 초월한 기능적이면서도 미적인 가구를 창조할 때만이 뉴 디자인 가구론 구입하는 소비자들이 뉴 디자인 가구를 올바른 방향에서 인식할 수 있을 것이다.

        가구재로써 노령 밤나무재의 효율적 이용에 관한 연구

        This study explored the development of wood furniture made of aged Castanea crenata Sieb. et Zucc, which has been largely planted in the southern area since 1960s and has hardly been used as furniture materials. First, the physical properties of the chestnut wood including specific gravity, stiffness, and shrinkage were compared with Zelkova serrata, Acer palmatum Thunb., Fagus crenata var. multinevis, Quercus, Tagayasan, Prunus serrulata var. spontanea, Juglans sinenis, Pteronrpus santalinus, Diospyros ebenum, and Fraxinus rhynchophylla, which have largely been used in manufacturing furniture. The chestnut wood had appropliate physical properties for wood furniture like other furniture woods. A piece of small table 50 cm in width, 50 cm in length and 60 cm in height by the chestnut tree was created for a current interior space. Since the diameter of the chestnut tree planted since 1960s is below around 30 cm, the top plate of the table had to be put together by an end-joint technique using a small strip. Finally, it is expected that this study will create a greate motivation for furniture designers, furniture studios and furniture companies in Korea to use the woods from the aged chestnut tree in developing furniture in the future.

        데페이즈망 기법을 적용한 화예 작품 창작 작품명: 새장과 파란 물고기

        본 연구는 여성으로서 가사와 육아의 생활로 이루어진 일상과 개인적 창작의 세계 사이에서 새로운 세계로의 탈출을 모색하며 작품의 창작을 행한 연구이다. 그 과정에서 초현실주의적 접근에 공감하고 데페이즈망 기법을 활용하여 작품 창작을 전개하였다. 구체적 과정으로는 이미지리서치를 통해 새장과 물고기라는 모티브를 얻을 수 있었으며 데페이즈망 기법에 대한 이해를 통해 새장에 있어야 할 새와 모순적이면서도 비현실적인 존재가 등장함으로 신비로우면서도 몽환적인 느낌을 표현하는 방법을 채택하였다. 특히 물고기의 표현에 있어 몸통을 생략하고 마치 바람에 휘날리듯 물속을 펄럭이는 지느러미의 신비스럽고 화려함을 재현하고자 하였다. 색상의 선택에서는 신비스러우면서도 물과 하늘을 연상하게 하는 파란색을 선택하였다. 꼬리의 느낌이 중요했기 때문에 유연함과 비침이 있으면서도 늘어지거나 쳐지지 않고 약간의 풍성함을 가진 폴리에스테르원단을 재료로 이용하였으며 형태는 낚시줄을 이용하여 조성하였다. This research is about the creation of art work seeking for the escapement to a new world between everyday living as a mother and housewife and personal creative world as an artist. The researcher sympathized with the approach of surrealists and developed her art work applying depaysement technique. The researcher performed image research and got the motives of bird cage and fish and applied depaysement technique by replacing the bird with the unreal existence with which the bird conflict and expressed surreal and subtle atmosphere. Omitting the body of fish, the fish tale shown in wave shape as if in water presented mystery splendor and was so blue presenting water and sky. The polyester fabric was used to make the shape of the tale which is flexible, transparent, unstretchable, with a little abundancy and fishing gut was used to make final form.

        Critical Discourse of Postmodern Aesthetics in Contemporary Furniture (Ⅱ) - The Characteristics of New Design Furniture in terms of the Postmodern Aesthetics of Communication

        This study explored the characteristics of contemporary furniture called New Design furniture design in terms of aesthetics of communication in the postmodem era. Qualitative conceptural analysis as the principal methodology was used to explore the characteristics of New Design furniture, which is accessible to the broadest possible public. Thereby, the communicative elements of symbol, metaphor, narrative, animation, imagination, humor, and/or wit expressed in New Design furniture were analyzed according to the designers' concept and work. As a result, the postmodem aesthetics of communication made New Design furniture accessible to the largest number of people through cultural considerations in New Design furniture as it influences designers' concept and work. However, it should problems of New Design furniture in connection with postmodem aesthetics affecting mass production.         서부경남의 소목장연구 Ⅱ

        This study explores developing a large round table with Bosang flower pattern for a contemporary meeting room made by a cabinet maker, Kim Byeung-soo, who has built the traditional Korean furniture in Korean Western Gyeongnam Province since after his elementary school. He uses the post finger joint from one of the middle level of his education process based on the traditional Korean technique, develops it into flower stem joint, and adds flower patterns" carving decoration called Bosang flower patterns. Hence, the table makes the table be strong, useful, and beautiful. Therefore, the modernized round table will be able to make the people access more easily and to make more demand on the traditional Korean furniture and the adopted furniture than ever.

        This study intended to explore English of furniture term in relation to the joints and moldings in traditional Korean wood furniture, a base of Korean wood furniture, for the development of Korea furniture in the future. The joints such as butt joint, rabbeted joint, mitered joint, mortise-and-tenon joint, fist joint, and finger joint, and the moldings such as a piece of thread molding, half-circle molding, cove molding, flat molding, and triangle molding were analyzed between English and Korean language. The results were only basic terms which must be researched and unified in the traditional Korean furniture. Therefore, the terms in relation to the types, the details, the hardware, and so on, will have to be studied in terms of the meaning originated from the traditional craftsmen.

        캐노피 침대 연구

        This article explores a canopied bed coming from the tradition known as the Medieval origin in the history of furniture that has been developed and popularized until now. The canopy that protects the private life, keeps from bug or mosquito, and keeps the warmth is defined as both the roof and curtain on the bed. Today’s canopy bed, the word, we use and call means a bed with canopy in the 15th century. At that time, the great canopied bed built with elaborated wood carving and inlay symbolized the rank so that the high class exclusively was able to use the huge bed with canopy. Today there are various canopied beds including the luxurious and big bed with canopy in a huge room with a swimming pool. Hence, the symbol of the high class in the Medieval period that used the bed is similar to the symbol of the rich that today is able to afford it. The contemporary canopied bed shows various shapes such as pendent style, stand style, wall-hanging style, and mixed style, using various materials such as fabric, wood, steel, and plastic, satisfying adult and children not only indoor but also outdoor. Therefore, with the result studied theoretically and practically, the designers related will be able to inspire their own concept with creativity in order to convey and communicate the meaning with the user in creating the canopied bed for a contemporary interior.
