흥천사의 역사에 관한 부분은 앞서 선행연구를 통해 살펴보았었다. 흥천사는 왕립사찰로 창건되어 조선 시대 불교 전반기의 중요한 사찰로 자리 잡았다. 그 속에는 조선 전기 불교계의 흐름과 사상이 담겨 있다고 할 수 있다. 흥천사의 역사에 등장하는 행호(行乎)는 이러한 조선전기를 대표하는 고승이자. 역사적 문제점도 같이 지닌다고 할 수 있다. 왕실에 의해서 등용된 행호는 백련사와 깊은 관련을 맺고 있으며 이러한 행호의 행적을 흥천사를 통해 살펴보는 것은 의미 있는 일이다. 행호가 흥천사의 주지직을 수행한 것은 1년에 불과하지만, 행호의 활동과 사상을 볼 때 끼친 영향은 지대하다고 할 수 있다. 국가 제도권 내에서 불교의 위상을 보존하고 승려의 권익을 옹호하여 불교 교단에 활력을 불어넣는 한편, 불교계의 견해를 정책에 반영함으로써 불교의 명맥을 회복 · 유지하는 데 막중한 역할을 하였다. 이 과정에서 행호는 당시 불교계의 영수로서 흥천사에서의 활동 기간은 짧지만, 불교계를 이끄는 원동력을 제공하였다. 흥천사가 수사찰로서의 역할을 한 것은 행호의 업적이다. 많은 반대에도 조선 불교계의 입장을 세운 점에서는 다시금 평가가 필요하다. The history of Heungcheonsa temple has been examined through previous studies. Heungcheonsa temple was established as a royal temple and established as an important temple in Buddhism during the first half of the Joseon period. It can be said that right here, there is the flow and thought of Buddhism in the Buddhism world in the first half period. Haengho (行乎), who appears in the history of Heungcheonsa temple, is a priest of high virtue representing the first half of the Joseon period, and it can be said that he also has historical issues. Haengho, appointed by the royal family, is closely related to Baekryeonsa temple, and it is meaningful to examine Haengho's record of performances through Heungcheonsa temple. Although Haengho carried out the office of temple head of Heungcheonsa temple for only one year, looking at Haengho's activities and thoughts, his influence can be said to be enormous. He preserves the status of Buddhism within the national system and revitalizes the Buddhist denomination by defending the rights and interests of monks, whereas by reflecting the views of the Buddhist community in the policies, he played a significant role in restoring/maintaining the tradition of Buddhism. In this process, Haengho, as the head of the Buddhist world at the time, provided the driving force to lead the Buddhist world, although his period of activities at Heungcheonsa temple was short. It is Haengho's achievement that Heungcheonsa temple served as the head temple. He needs to be evaluated again in that he has established the position of Joseon(朝鮮) Buddhism despite many objections at the time.

신라 불교문화 원형 연구 -실크로드와 경주를 중심으로-

본고에서는 한국불교문화원형의 한축인 신라불교문화의 성립을 간다라로부터 중앙아시아 중국을 잇는 문화원형 형성에 관한 논의를 하고자 하는 것이다. 특히 이러한 부분은 여러 기관의 도움으로 실시해 온 불교문화 조사를 바탕으로 본 논문의 바탕으로 삼고자 한다. 실크로드의 불교에 관한 연구는 한국불교의 원류를 밝히는 중요한 작업이라고 할 수 있다. 우리는 지금까지 인도불교, 중국불교, 한국불교 등으로 분류된 개략적인 지역학적 불교연구방법을 원용하여 연구해 왔다. 하지만 이러한 분류법으로 해결되지 않는 전파와 수용에 관한 문제가 실크로드지역에서 발생한다. 불교가 고대한국사회의 형성에 끼친 영향은 논란의 여지가 없을 정도로 거대하다는 평가를 받아 왔다. 그러므로 문화의 전파와 수용이라는 관점에서 볼 때 실크로드라는 교류의 흔적을 살펴야 한다. 고대역사에 있어서 A.D 1 세기부터 A.D 8 세기에 이르는 시기 동안 세계는 활발한 교류의 흔적을 남기고 있으며 이러한 활발한 교류의 흔적에서 우리는 불교의 전파, 수용, 변용의 과정을 살필 수 있는 것이다. 불교를 한국에서 가장 깊이 받아들였던 신라는 불국토사상을 발전시키면서 신라가 곧 불국토임을 인식하면서 신라의 불교적 세계관을 내재화하는 과정을 겪었다. 중고기에 왕실인들이 석종임을 주장함으로써 신라 왕실은 불교 발상지인 인도의 세계관을 수용하고 공유하게 되었다. 이러한 과정을 통해 우리나라에서 불교가 정착하게 되는 과정이며 문화원형으로 정립되어 지는 과정인 것이다.
