      • 부유식구조물(Mega-float)를 활용한 이어도 분쟁의 대책

        1990년대 중반에 들어와 ′UN해양법협약′이 발효함에 따라 『배타적경제수역(EEZ)』의 선포가 이루어지면서, 해양관할권과 관련한 세계 각국의 대립 및 갈등이 점차적으로 고조되어가는 양상을 보이고 있다. 최근에는 우리나라의 이어도-해양과학기지 운영에 관하여 중국 정부가 이의를 제기하고, 이어도 주변수역의 해저에서 발견된 암초에 대하여 중국식 명칭을 붙이는 등 이어도 및 이어도 주변수역의 관할권을 둘러싼 분쟁의 조짐이 나타나고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이어도 및 이어도-해양과학기지의 해양법적 지위에 대해 검토하고, 최근 각 지역에서 영유권 분쟁을 벌이고 있는 중국의 해양영토에 대한 이중성을 조사하였다. 거기에 간척·매립 등과 다른 개념의 해양공간 활용방법인 메가플로트(Mega float)에 대해 소개하였다. 위 내용을 근거로 국제법적 접근을 통한 배타적경제수역 경계획정방법 및 최근 국제사법재판소 판례 등에 기초한 이어도 분쟁 대책에 대해 검토하였고, 메카플로트를 활용한 계획을 더하여 이어도 및 주변 해역의 관할권 근거를 보다 분명하게 구축하였다. 이러한 메가플로트 활용 계획의 정량적 평가를 위해 수치해석을 병행하였으며, 수치해석을 위한 주요 인자인 파랑은 파향(SW계열), 파고(8.0m), 주기(12sec)의 조건을 선택하여 조파하였다. 또한, 기설치 되어있는 구조물인 이어도-해양과학기지를 계산영역에 포함하였고, 정온도 확보를 위한 부방파제를 설치한 경우와 미설치한 경우를 비교하였다. 수치해석은 최근 발전되어 정확한 해석이 가능한 수치모형 기법인 FLOW-3D 모형을 사용하였으며, 그 결과 파랑이 메가플로트에 미치는 영향은 미비한 것으로 판단되었다. 향후 본 연구를 이어도 해역에 실제로 적용 시킬 수 있다면 이어도 해역의 해양관할권 설정시 우리나라가 유리한 고지를 점할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. As the proclamation of exclusive economic zone(EEZ) was accomplished, according that United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea(UNCLOS) had taken effect on the mid-1990, It can be shown that International confrontation and conflicts related with jurisdiction over Korea’s southern reef territory Ieodo are building up. Recently, Chinese government has raise an objection to management of Ieodo Ocean Research Station in Korea and gave reefs chinese names which are found from the undersea surrounding Ieodo and so on. It appears that the dispute of jurisdiction around Ieodo and its water. In this study, review the Ieodo, and the marine legal status of Ieodo Ocean Research Station, investigate duality on Republic of China's maritime territory which is in the territorial dispute among the countries recently, and introduce the Mega float that is a method of improving the maritime space unlike the concept of the landfill and land reclamation. And examine the measure on disputed territory, Ieodo based on the EEZ’s method of deciding on borders and recent International Court of Justice’s case law, etc. Also establish the basis for the jurisdiction of Ieodo and its nearby sea sites in addition to plan for using the Mega float practically. For the more, combine a quantitative interpretation for the quantitative assessment of the Mega float application plan, do wave-making choosing the wave condition such as SW series wave direction, 8.0m of wave height and 12sec period. Not only Install minor breakwater for Ieodo marine science base and information of constant temperature of Ieodo but execute the three-dimensional numerical analysis using the FLOW-3D model which is recently developed to accurate interpretation. According to the numerical simulation result, It can be seen that the ocean wave has less effect on the Mega float, so if we can apply this study to Ieodo’s waters, It could be expected Korea can take dominant position in establishment of jurisdiction.

        Bioenergies could replace fossil energies and reduce its greenhouse gas emission. A production of biodiesel via transesterification of lipid would benefit environment by producing sustainable energies from reproducible resources. Lipids from microalgae can be effective feedstocks for making bioenergies, lipids extraction and conversion operation are the highest cost steps producing biofuel from microalgae. Moreover, before extraction process, the dewatering of microalgae is necessary and one of the main bottlenecks in algal culturing. Dunaliella species, a microalga producing large amount of lipids, need to be developed lipid extraction method from it for effective biodiesel production. The objective of this study was making suitable lipids extraction methods and developing effective dewatering method. Furthermore, suggested biodiesel production process for Dunaliella tertiolecta was evaluated. The mixed solvent of methanol and chloroform was the most effective one whereas methanol alone was also good to extract lipid from D. tertiolecta. And D. tertiolecta Cell wall was easily disrupted under heating condition extraction. When freeze-dried biomass was used as feedstock, Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) yield of direct transesterification method resulted in 99.21% of two-step process yield. Also, when wet biomass was used as feedstock, the suggested process led to 54% reduced cost of biodiesel production, low lipid loss (0.87%, based on total lipid) and same as FAME yield(100.0%) of conventional (dry route) biodiesel method.

      • 벼(Oryza sativa L.)의 형태적 특성과 동위효소 유전 및 연관분석

        The inheritances o f isozyme genes, such as esterases (EST), phosphoglucose isomerases (PGI), and alcohol dehydrogenases (ADH), by isoelectric focusing were identified by controlled cross and segregation analysis with two rice cultivars, Milyang 23 and MaHae. Segregations of morphological characteristics were analyzed and linkage relationships with isozymes were determined. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. Distributions of heading days, 1,000-grain weight, and culm length segregations were transgressive, indicating to be controlled by unidentifiable polygenes. 2. Waxiness, brown furrow, and glabrous characteristics were inherited by single recessive genes. 3. Purple base color was known to be controlled by both chromogen(C) and anthocyanin(8) genes, Genetic analysis showed that Milyang 23 had AAcc-type gene and MaHae had aaCC-type gene. 4. lsozymes of EstI-1, EstI-4, and PGI I-I were inherited as dimers, while those of EstI-2 and ADH I-1 were inherited as monomers. 5. Significant linkage relationships were not found between any of morphological characteristics and isozymes. 6. A tight linkage was found between EstⅠ-2 gene and semidwarfness (sd-1) gene of Milyang 23. The result indicated that EstⅠ-2 could be used as a in vitro marker for efficient selection of semidwarfness before the morphological characteristics was expressed.

        In the Contemporary Korean Society, Magic has been growing dramatically as one of the cultural icon. The size of Magic market comes to about 30 billion won, domestic population of Magic reaches about 2 million, the number of Magic club is more than one thousand. Magic is often found not only in the economical area but our everyday life areas. The movies, dramas and advertisements based on Magic are being produced in recent years and we can enjoy Magic whenever we want at Magic Bar. From the elementary school to high school, a lot of school authorities form a Magic class as an after-school activities or an extracurricular activities. Lately we can have an encounter with some Magic institutes on the street and sometimes hear about the university department that teaches Magic professionally as well. Compared to the last 10 years in which Magic was not doing too well like these days, this is a drastic change. However, there is still no sociological consideration about the rapid growth and alteration of Magic coming into everyday life areas. In this paper, at first, I inquired into the reason why Magic became in popularity and what this reason means. After that, I tried to analyse general mentality in everyday life of the magician and the audiences at the personal level when the magic is being played. Finally, I attempted to look into the sociological meaning of Magic in the Contemporary Korean Society by understanding the social psychological mechanism which makes our society demand Magic. Magic is the action that realize a fantasy. It has an instantaneity of a fantasy which is the thing that modern people respond to. That is to say, it provides various factors that make modern people to get out from the alienated and lonely state of mind, even though they are alienated and fall into loneliness as Erich Fromm and David Riesman said. What is the way of Magic enjoyed to individuals in reality? At the personal level, Magic provides a psychological comfort and satisfaction of self-realization. First, it shows vicarious satisfaction in response to someone's desire through the instantaneity. This vicarious satisfaction leads to a positive mentality and to an attempt that share it with other people by extension. Magic is used to a good tool that not only induces the change of character but also as a means to recover from personal underlying pain, sadness and loneliness and makes someone receive attention by himself, which brings about a swell of pride to him. And entertaining other people deepens the reflection and understanding about other people. Magic, as a means of active self-expression, become also an effective tool that express his political and ethical values. These positive energies of Magic get someone to increase the possibility of immersion, which leads to a self-satisfaction. But if this self-satisfaction is negatively expressed, the Distinction might arise by the medium of secret. In the view of relationship, Magic, as an ice-breaker, may become the catalyst for entering into relations such as a couple, a club and so on. The accumulation of the experiences like this lightens the burden which comes about when someone get into new relation and instills his confidence. This is a quite meaningful result considering the burden from relationships and loneliness in the crowd of most modern people. Also it is able to induce some changes in existing relations as well. There are lots of cases in which the instantaneity of the fantasy of Magic, which may become one of their common interests that brings other generations together, resumes a conversation with each other and brings them to be in close. And it plays a role as a chance that reconfirms good relationship between a couple and friends. Actually from the figures of Magic enjoyed by modern people 3 kinds of substances are confirmed. The first is Magic as a means of overcome self-alienation. The growing interest in Magic is one of the reaction to psychological emptiness and it might be the mirror of our desire. The second is Magic as a means of overcome general alienation. Magic can take on a role to improve relationships because of the desire for human beings to express themselves in relationship, which is also connect with their self-satisfaction. The third is Magic as active liberty beyond the alienation. The individuals regarding Magic as one of the amusements and their individuality are so active that can feel pleasant about something by themselves. We can imagine the existence of 'Homo Magus' who are able to realize dreams like they play a game between the 'Homo Dreaminans' and 'Homo Ludens'. Even though the history of Magic is very long, it is distinctly needed to be considered as a new culture in respect that it is being enjoyed in every day life and gaining popularity. As a result, there are some modern people who require the fantasy of Magic actively. And an indication that someone desires to overcome psychological loneliness and anxiety in his life by becoming the main character instead of being left as an audience simply comes in sight. I think that we can discover a possibility to realize enthusiastic liberty via Magic.

      • 방사성탄소로 본 동해의 용존유기탄소 순환

        본 연구에서는 동해(East/Japan Sea, EJS)의 울릉 분지와 일본 분지에서 용존유기탄소(DOC)의 방사성탄소 함량(Δ14C) 연직 분포를 최초로 보고하였다. 동해의 DOC Δ14C는 −223에서 −367‰ 사이의 값을 가지며 1,500 m 이하 심층에서는 두 분지 간의 차이 없이 유사한 값을 가졌다(−353±9‰). 동해 DOC의 1,000 m 이하 심층에서의 Δ14C은 선행 연구로부터 보고된 대양의 심층 Δ14C 중 가장 높았으며, 특히 인접한 태평양의 심층 DOC Δ14C와는 150에서 200‰의 큰 차이를 보였다. 동해의 DOC는 Keeling plot에서 중앙 태평양의 자료들과 동일 직선상에 놓여 동해와 태평양 심층수는 서로 고립되어 있지만 표층수 교환을 통하여 연결되어 있는 것으로 사료된다. 태평양의 심층 DOC의 Δ14C로부터 동해의 DOC 분포를 난분해성 DOC (RDOC)와 추가로 공급되는 DOC (excess DOC)로 설명하는 이성분 모델(two component model)로부터 동해에는 RDOC가 수직적으로 균일하게 분포하며 excess DOC가 심층 DOC의 30% 가량을 구성하는 것으로 추정되었다. 동해는 100년 단위의 빠른 심층 순환과 낮은 수온, 그리고 높은 일차 생산력 등의 요인이 복합적으로 작용하여 표층에서 생성된 DOC가 심층에서도 존재하는 것으로 사료된다. Radiocarbon content in dissolved organic carbon in the East/Japan Sea (EJS) was reported in this research. Δ14C in the EJS was between -223 to -367‰ at the Ulleung Basin and the Japan Basin, and -353±9‰ under 1,500 m with no distinct difference between each basin. Especially, Δ14C under 1,000 m was the largest value in the world, despite of its origin, the Pacific Ocean where the lowest deep DOC Δ14C was observed. Keeling plot implied the relationship between the Pacific and the EJS DOC, which had similar DOC concentration versus Δ14C distributions. Since the Tsushima Warm Current(TWC) is the main current at the EJS, we presumed that DOC in the EJC was composed of DOC from the shallow Pacific Ocean, and estimated the portion of refractory DOC (RDOC) in the EJS by using two component mixing model. Our research suggested that marine phytoplankton derived labile DOC might exist under 1,000 m depth in the EJS, explaining more than 30% of the whole DOC. Deep circulation would enhance the input of surface DOC into the deep basin in the EJS.

      • Maximizing economic value of microalgal biomass using hydrothermal treatment

        Although biofuel production using microalgae have many advantages over conventional fuels derived from fossil resources or other raw materials, it has not been successfully commercialized due to high production costs. In this study, a biorefinery process was developed to enhance the economic value of the microalgal biofuels. It is well-known that the microalgal compositions can vary depending on the culture conditions. Some hydrothermal treatments were applied on microalgal biomass with various compositions. First, the hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) process was applied to increase the production of biofuels in subcritical conditions. Nitrogen and phosphorus can be recovered from an aqueous phase as by-products of HTL, which was carried out at reaction temperatures of 300-350oC for 5-60 min. Elemental compositions and higher heating values (HHV) of biocrude under various reaction conditions were used to derive optimal conditions for maximum energy recovery. In order to optimize the inorganic nutrients recovery, the effect of reaction conditions on the concentrations of ammonium (NH4+) and phosphate (PO43-) in the aqueous phase were investigated. A maximum energy recovery of 82% was obtained at 325oC and 20 min, with a HHV of 38.1 MJ/kg. For the nutrients recovery in aqueous phase, shorter reaction time tends to recover more phosphate, with maximum recovery yield was 66% at 350oC and 5 min. Based on the various response factors data obtained through the product yields, the economic value (EV) was evaluated to estimate the economic application potential. The reaction times of 60 min, 20 min, and 5 min gave the best EVs for reaction temperatures of 300oC, 325oC, and 350oC, respectively. The EV of HTL was evaluated by biochemical compositions of biomass. The higher the fatty acids (lipid) contents in biomass, the higher the EV. The ratio of biocrude value to total products value showed over 90%, whereas that of inorganic salts in aqueous phase to total products value was low because the contents of nitrogen and phosphorus in starting biomass were 4-7% and 1%, respectively. Although the contribution of lipids to biocrude conversion was large for HTL processes, those of carbohydrates and proteins was small in EV. For this reason, it is necessary for devise a novel process that can separate proteins and carbohydrates rather than converting them to low valued biofuels by HTL. Thermal hydrolysis (TH) was conducted to separate protein fractions, since the protein in microalgae could be extracted into the aqueous phase by TH. The remaining fractions could be concentrated in the oil phase. The reaction parameters of TH were optimized for temperature range of 150-200oC using the feedstocks with water contents of 80-95% (w/w). The highest efficiency for protein extraction was 41%, which was achieved at 170oC using the feedstock with 95% (w/w) water contents. Furthermore, more than 90% of the fatty acids can be recovered in the residual solid fraction despite of reaction conditions. In order to find the most profitable route for a biorefinery process, microalgal feedstocks with various compositions were evaluated after TH treatment. Biomass with low fatty acids-high protein (LFHP) contents and that with high fatty acids-low protein (HFLP) contents were tested. By TH treatment, fatty acids were deposited to the solid fraction with minimal loss at low reaction temperature. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the extraction yield of proteins was a function of pH of aqueous phase, which was determined by the dehydration process of carbohydrates. The EVs of different feedstocks showed similar value of about 0.1 USD/kg, and the biochemical compositions other than carbohydrates doesn`t affect EVs. HTT was comprehensively compared using various feedstocks. The higher the fatty acid contents, the higher the EV from HTL process. For low fatty acids content feedstocks, EV revealed a negative value of -0.175 USD/kg, which can be improved by introducing TH process. The TH treatment developed in this study could be increased to the EV of 0.16 USD/kg by maximizing the value of protein fraction from feedstocks even when the fatty acids content was low. Although the TH process showed a positive EV for all feedstocks, it still needs to be improved. A combined process of TH and HTL is proposed to maximize EV of microalgal biomass since the combined process can complement the advantages and disadvantages of each process.

It is a very simple operator using the local probabilties in a 3x3 local window. Experimental results show its excellent performance over the existing valley or edge operators.
