Various kinds of chinese herb have been known as to promote growth rate of animals. We investigated the growth promoting effect of the selected plants by using fish and rats as experimental animals. In a preliminary test by using fish, Eleutherococcus senticosus and Artemisia capillasis were found to be effective. Based on this result, we manufactured the mixture of plant extracts and applied this mixture to rice, named as Kiwoomi^TM. When we administered Kiwoomi^TM to rats, it was found to be effective in growth promotion. Kiwoomi^TM - administered group showed 49.3% (0.75g/㎏ B.W.) and 52.3% (1.5g/㎏ B.W.) growth promotion, respectively. On the other hand, Control group showed 46.2% growth promotion. This growth promotion was supported by increase of GH and IGF-1 level in the Kiwoomi^TM - administered group. From these results, we suggest that this functional rice could be helpful for growing children.

다양한 종류의 생약재들이 동물과 인간의 성장률을 증진시키는 활성을 가지고 있는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 선정된 식물의 성장증진 효과를 확인하기 위해 실험동물로서 물고기와 돼지를 이용하였다. 물고기 실험에서 오가피 추출물과인진쑥 추출물이 가장 효과적인 것으로 나타났다 그리고 이들 오가피와 인진쑥 추출물을 돼지에 먹여본 결과 평균일일 증체율이 대조군에 비해 7.06%증가하였다. 이 결과를 검증하기위해 혈액 내 분비된 성장호르몬(GH)과 Insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)의 양을 측정하였다. 오가피와 인진쑥 추출물을 먹인 돼지는 대조군에 비해 혈액 내로 분비된 GH와 IGF-1의 양이 훨씬 더 많았다. 인간에서 성장증진 효과를 알아보기 위해 본 연구자들은 오가피와 인진쑥 추출물을 혼합하여 쌀에 코팅한 키우미^(TM)(Kiwoomi^(TM))를 제조하였다. 키우미^(TM)를 초등학생들에게 먹였을 때 키 성장에 효과적인 것을 확인하였다. 키우미^(TH)를 먹인 아이들이 먹이지 않은 아이들보다 더 많이 성장하였다(약 2.14배). 결과적으로 이 기능성 쌀(Kiwoomi^(TM))이 다른 부작용 없이 아이들의 성장에 도움을 주는 것으로 판단된다. It has been reported that various kinds of chinese herbs have an activity to promote growth rate in both animals and human. To investigate the growth promoting effect of the selected plants, fish and pigs were used as experimental animals. In fish, Eleutherococcus senticosus extract and Arteinisia capillasis extract were found to be most effective. And these plant extracts were given to pigs. The result showed that plant extracts-fed pigs were significantly increased their body weight gain at 7.06% of average daily gain, as compared to control. To verify this result, secreted growth hormone (GH) levels and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels into blood were measured. This result indicated that GH and IGF-1 levels in the blood in plant extracts-fed pigs were higher than those of control. To confirm growth promotion effect on human, we manufactured the mixture of these plant extracts, and coated this mixture onto rice, named as Kiwoomi^(TM). When we administered Kiwoomi^(TM) to elementary students, it was found to be effective in growth promotion. This result showed that Kiwoomi^(TM)-treated elementary students significantly increased their growth rate (about 2.14 times), as compared to untreated children. Taken together, it is suggested that this functional rice (Kiwoomi^(TM)) might be helpful for growing children without any side effects.

식중독 원인균 S. aureus, E. coli O157:H7, S. typhimurium, S. enteritidis, L. monocytogenes, 장티프스 원인균 S. typhi, 패혈증 원인균 V. parahaemolyticus, 세균성 이질 원인균 S. sonnei를 20℃에서 30분간 그린존^TM과 접촉시킨 결과 최소 3배 희석액부터 최대 24배 희석액에서 균에 대한 살멸 효과를 나타내었다. 그린존^TM 3배 희석액을 이용하여 30초, 1부, 5분간 균과 접촉시킨 결과 S. aureus만 제외하고 모두 30초에 100% 살멸하는 효과를 나타내었다. 그린존^TM을 이용하여 사스의 원인체와 동일한 바이러스인 코로나 바이러스에 대한 살바이러스 효과를 본 결과 제품의 5배 희석액까지 유효한 살바이러스 효과를 보였다. 사람과 접촉이 많은 애완견 바이러스인 파보바이러스(CPV), 디스템퍼바이러스(CDV)에 대하여 시험한 결과 유기물과 경수 등의 악조건에서도 바이러스를 살멸하는 효과를 나타내었다. 그린존^TM을 이용한 회와 냉장육 등에서의 적용 시험결과 미생물 생육이 현저히 저해됨을 알 수 있었다. 체소내의 미생물에 대한 살멸효과 시험에서도 미생물의 수가 현저하게 감소하였고, 특히 대장균의 수가 현저하게 감소하였다. 그린존^TM은 세균, 바이러스의 살멸에 탁월한 효과를 보이며, 음식물에 직접 처리할 시에도 그 안전성과 효능이 입증되었다. Bactericidal effect of Green-Zone^TM was observed, when Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella typhimurium, S. enteritidis, Listeria monocytogenes, the causative bacteria of food poisoning, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Shigella sonnei were treated with the diluted solution of Green-Zone^TM(33.3%~4.1%) for 30min at 20℃. All the bacteria were killed in 30sec, when 33.3%-diluted Green-Zone^TM was applied, except for S. aureus. Coronavirus, the same virus with SARS virus taxonomically, was also killed with the 20%-diluted Green-Zone^TM. Canine parvovirus and Canine distemper virus were also killed even in the organic matter and hard water, when treated with Green-Zone^TM. When applied to food such as raw fish, chilled meat, vegetables, Green-Zone^TM could also decrease the number of microorganism, expecially for E. coli. From these results, Green-Zone^TM is thought to be effective for killing virus and bacteria, and also was proved to be safe when applied directly to food.

Obesity is one of causes of the all adult diseases. We investigated the body weight decrease effect of the selected plants by digestive enzyme activity inhibition test. In a preliminary test, Inonotus obliquus and Rubus coreanus Miq. were found to be effective. Based on this result & previous result, we manufactured the mixture of plant extracts named as Misol™. Misol is applied anti-obesity beverage and rice. When we administered Misol™ to rats, it was found to be effective in body weight decrease. Result that is experimented during 20 weeks, is effective body weight and total cholesterol, triglyceride decrease. In case of human, anti-obesity beverage administered group showed 5.65% body weight decrease, 4% waist length decrease and 6% abdomen length decrease respectively. And anti-obesity rice administered group showed 2.3 kg body weight decrease, 2.9 cm waist length decrease and 3.74 cm abdomen length decrease respectively. This body control effect was<br/> supported by plant extracts in the Misol, anti-obesity beverage and rice - administered group. From these results, we suggest that this functional food could be helpful for body weight controlling obesity.
