A case of ganglioneuroma of the cerebellum is reported in 31-year-old woman. The clinical features were dull headache, dizziness, nausea and gait disturbance. Computerized tomography revealed a nonenhancing mass lesion surrounded by focal area of calcification. Subtotal resection and ventriculoperitoneal shunt were effective in this case.

The biopsy and cyst aspiration of central nervous lesions by computerized tomography(CT) scan has become a popular method. Authors can simply make a needle placement in deep intracranial hematomas, brain abscesses and cystic tumors by using U-loop with CT guided external markers. Our method is believed to deserve reporting in that it is easy, safe and less expensive.

Urokinase use after stereotaxic evacuation of hematoma became a popular method in treatment of hypertensive intracerebral hematoma. Using urokinase also, we obtained excellent result in evacuation of the hematoma which was remained after stereotaxic evacuation or direct approach for 24 traumatic intracerebral hematoma cases. And we found several advantages in this method compared to standard treatment modalities. We think that this is a new, effective treatment method for traumatic intracerbral hematoma.
만성 자발성 흉척수 경막외 혈종 1례 : 증례 보고 Case Report

The spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma has a rare occurrence. Recently the authors have experienced a case of chronic spontaneous thoracic epidural hematoma in a 26 year old woman. She presented with Lt. scapular and upper thoracic pain, paraparesis and acute voiding difficulty during pregnancy and postpartum period. The thoracic myelography with niopam was performed by lumbar tap and C1∼2 tap. Resoluted spinal epidural hematoma was removed with nearly complete recovery after 5 weeks. There was no trauma history but Lt. scapular and upper thoracic pain had been developed during previous pregnancy about 3 years ago. We present that this case may be related with pregnancy and delivery.

Controlling malodor originating from livestock feces has become a major issue, due to its influence on the health of man and livestock, together with its influences on atmospheric pollution. In this study, Five types of biofilters filled with saw-dust, night soil, fermented compost, leaf mold and a mixture(a compound of night soil, fermented compost and leaf mold at the same rates, respectively) were manufactured and tested. To study the effect of the biofilter on reducing malodor in a composting facility and swine building, a pilot scale composting facility enclosed with polyethylene film was constructed. Swine feces was composted in the facility and malodorous gas generated from the decomposition of organic matter in the feces was gathered by vacuum pump. Each biofilter achieved 87∼96% NH3 removal efficiency. This performance was maintained throughout 10 days of operation. The highest NH3 removal efficiency was achieved by leaf mold on the first day of operation period. It reduced the concentration of NH3 by about 96%. Night soil and fermented compost showed nearly equal performance of 93 to 94% for 10 days from the beginning of operation. The mixture achieved the lowest NH3 removal efficiency. It reduced NH3 concentration by about 89∼94% for 10 days from the beginning of operation. However NH3 removal efficiency of each biofilter declined with the passage of operational time. After 30 days from the beginning of operation, NH3 removal efficiency of each biofilter of each biofilter was below 60%, respectively. The concentration of H2S and CH3-SH originating from compost were equal to or less than 5mg/l and 3mg/l, respectively. After passing throughout the biofilter, the concentration of H2S and CH3-SH were not detected.
만성요통 환자의 자기공명연상에서 관찰되는 해부학적 이상 소견의 임상적 의의

Objective: The authors have carried research on patients with chronic low back pain in order to investigate the predictive value of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) of pathoanatomical abnormalities of the intervertebral discs, par:icularly with adjacent endplate(Modic) change, high-intensity zone(HIZ) and disc degeneration, to predict symptomatic disc derangement, with discography as the standard. Methods: The authors prospectively analyzed the discographic findings and anatomical abnormalities on lumbar spine MRI in 187 patients with chronic low back pain. MR images were evaluated for disc degeneration, high-intensity zone, and endplate abnormalities. Results of pain provocation at discography(527 discs) were rated independently of the image findings as concordant or as discordant or painless. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value(PPV), negative predictive value(NPV) were calculated to assess the clinical relevance of abnormalities on MRI. Results: The prevalence of a high-intensity zone in the patients was 53.5%. Significant correlation was found between abnormal disc morphology and the HIZ(p<0.05). In morphologically abnormal discs(grade 3,4), there was a significant correlation between the HIZ and concordant pain reproduction(p<0.001). For concordant pain production, high-intensity zone(sensitivity, 41%; specificity, 78.6%; PPV, 26.4%; NPV, 87.7%), abnormal discogram(sensitivity, 94%; specificity, 77.5%; PPV, 18.5%; NPV, 95.2%), disc degeneration(sensitivity, 85.5%; specificity, 73.4%; PPV, 17.9%; NPV, 90.8%), and Modic change(sensitivity, 3.6%; specificity, 4.5%; PPV, 13.1%; NPV, 84.7%) were not helpful in identification of the symptomatic disc derangement. Conclusion: We conclude from our prospective study that the 3 pathoanatomical parameters(disc degeneration, HIZ, Modic change) observed on MRI appear not to be useful in the prediction of painful disc derangement in patients with chronic low back pain.
