        In order to make a quiet zone, one can consider various methods. Of the methods, this paper deals with the method using control materials such as absorption materials. This method controls sound fields by changing boundary conditions. First, this paper shows that the control material is essentially on the same road as active noise control (ANC) That is, we can consider the control material as the control source of ANC. However we cannot control the source strength. Second, this paper shows that the position of the control material is an important variable by a numerical simulation. And the strategy to optimize the position is addressed.

        Characteristics and Treatment of Cutaneous Melanoma of the Foot

        Background In East Asia, the foot is the most common site of cutaneous melanoma. The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between cutaneous melanoma of the foot and melanomas of other sites. Methods We studied 52 patients who underwent surgical treatment for cutaneous melanoma of the foot from September 2000 to January 2015. Through a retrospective review of their medical records, we collected data relating to their sex, age, histopathological subtype, Clark level, tumor thickness, lymph node involvement, stage, and survival rate, and we compared these parameters to those of 61 patients treated for melanoma of other sites. Moreover, we analyzed the surgical procedures, complications, and mortality rates associated with cutaneous melanoma on various parts of the foot. Results Melanoma of the foot differed from other melanomas only in the histopathological subtype. Other clinical features, including survival rate, did not differ significantly between the two groups heel was the most common site of melanoma of the foot (22 cases, 42.3%). The method of reconstruction varied depending on the region involved. Conclusions A comparison of melanoma of the foot to other melanomas showed that melanoma of the foot was associated with a significantly different distribution of histological subtypes. Consistent with previous findings, we found that the acral lentiginous subtype was the most common among melanomas of the foot. Furthermore, in contrast with previous studies, we did not find a worse prognosis or lower survival rate for melanoma of the foot in comparison with other melanomas.

        남병철『의기집설』의 험시의(驗時儀) 연구

        This paper is a preliminary research about Nam Byeongcheol (南秉哲, 1817-1863)’s mechanical clock, based on his “Explanation of a Time-checking Instrument (Heomsiui seol, 驗時儀說). Nam Byeongcheol was one of the utmost literary figures as well as an outstanding scholar of astronomy and mathematics in nineteenth-century Korea. Heomsiui seol was written as one chapter of his treatise on astronomical instruments, titled the Collection of Writings on the Scientific Instruments (Uigijipseol, 儀器輯說), which was compiled in the late 1850s. In Heomsiui seol, he gave detailed explanations on the mechanical clock’s structure, mechanism, making manuals, and its historical background. As a result of this research, we understand the peculiarities of Nam Byeongcheol’s mechanical clock. (1) He tried to emphasize the mechanical clock as one of important astronomical instruments instead of a water clock; (2) He adopted two mechanical devices to make his mechanical clock: one is ‘Huygens’s escapement and pendulum’ invented in 1657, another is ‘rack striking system’ developed by Edward Barlow in 1676.

      • 음향 홀로그래피를 이용한 다수의 완전 비상관 소음원들의 가시화

        The objective of this paper is to obtain the contribution of each source to the spectrum of pressure, when there are multiple incoherent sources in near-field acoustic holography. For this objective, we have to obtain signals very coherent to the input signals of the sources. To obtain the very coherent signals, many people have measured pressure signals in the vincinity of the sources. However, it is sometimes difficult to locate microphones near to the sources so that the signals are very coherent to the input signals. This paper proposed a method to obtain the very coherent signals by near-field acoustic holography. Therefore, the proposed method does not require the measurement of pressure near to each source. Simulation results for two incoherent monopole sources showed the possibility of the proposed method.

      • 자기조정 전략훈련이 정신지체학생의 수학 문장제 문제해결력에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts on the mathematical word problem solving abilities of students with mental retardation through teaching self-regulated strategy. The participants of this study were 14 high school students with mental retardation who were enrolled in two special classes in Seoul, Korea. They are randomly divided either into experimental group or control group. The evaluation tool was developed by the researcher and consisted of 10 different problem types which have 10 questions per type. Mathematical word problem solving skill of the participants was measured by a mixed way of structured interview and paper test. After pre-test, 12 sessions of strategy instruction were administered and post-test followed after the final session. Maintenance test was administered two weeks after the post-test. The independent t tests and paired t tests were employed to analyse the results of the tests. For intervention, problem solving strategy was first instructed and then made the students skillful at self-regulated strategy use. The results of this study were as follows; First, the experimental group showed significantly positive effects compared with control group on the every steps of mathematical word problem solving process except carrying out the plan step. Second, the experimental group maintained the enhanced problem solving ability through the use of self-regulated strategy. Third, the experimental group didn't show significantly different effects compared with control group on the problem types. This result was thought that the structure of the test made the difficulty level of each type similar. In Conclusion, self-regulated strategy improved the mathematical word problem solving abilities of students with mental retardation. This implies that self-regulated strategy is helpful to the mentally retarded students who showing difficulties at prerequisite skills in mathematics to understand and represent better mathematical word problems. 이 연구의 목적은 자기조정 전략 훈련이 정신지체학생의 수학 문장제 문제해결력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 있다. 연구 대상은 서울시에 소재한 2개 고등학교에 재학 중인 정신지체학생 14명이며, 이들을 실험집단과 통제집단으로 나누어 실험을 실시하였다. 평가는 구조화된 면접과 지필검사의 혼합방식을 사용하였으며, 사전, 사후 검사결과는 독립표본 t-검정을 하여 분석하였다. 이 연구의 결과를 살펴보면, 첫째, 자기조정 전략훈련을 받은 집단은 통제집단과 비교하여 수학 문장제 문제해결과정에서 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 단지 문제해결과정의 각 단계와 합계에서 전략을 교수받은 집단의 문제해결력이 통제집단에 비해 향상되는 경향성은 뚜렷이 나타났다. 둘째, 자기조정 전략훈련을 받은 집단은 통제집단과 비교하여 수학 문장제의 문제유형에 따라 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 이는 연구에 사용된 측정방식이 문제해결력을 향상시키거나 측정하기에는 용이하였지만 학생 스스로 문제해결에 필요한 단계를 설정하고 결과를 도출하는데 수고를 경감해주어 학생들이 보다 어렵게 느낀다고 보고된 문제유형들에 대해서도 비교적 용이하게 풀 수 있게 한 때문으로 추측된다. 이 연구의 결과에 비추어 볼 때 자기조정 훈련의 중재기간을 늘이고 측정방식을 달리할 경우 정신지체학생들이 수학 문장제 문제해결을 하는데 도움을 줄 것으로 보인다.

        Analysis of the Clinical and Histopathological Patterns of 100 Consecutive Cases of Primary Cutaneous Melanoma and Correlation with Staging

        Background This study analyzed 100 consecutive patients with primary cutaneous melanoma over the course of 13 years to determine whether epidemiological differences correspond to different stages of the disease. We also investigated whether epidemiological characteristics affected the survival rate. Our results were compared with those of selected descriptive studies of melanoma in other East Asian populations, in order to determine whether cutaneous melanoma patterns are similar in East Asian populations. Methods The patients’ medical records were reviewed retrospectively, and we analyzed the relationship of epidemiological characteristics to staging and survival rate. Additionally, papers from Hong Kong and Japan describing these phenomena in East Asian populations were subjected to a statistical comparison. Results The ratio of males to females was 1:1.8, and the foot was the most frequent tumor site (49%). Acral lentiginous melanoma occurred most frequently (55%). Nodular melanoma was associated with a higher stage. Stage III–IV tumors with Clark levels of IV–V were significantly associated with a low survival rate. A statistical analysis of comparable papers reported in Hong Kong and Japan showed similar results with regard to age, tumor location, and histopathological subtypes. Conclusions This study provides the first full epidemiological description of 100 consecutive cases of primary cutaneous melanoma in Korea, with results similar to those observed in other East Asian populations. Corresponding to previous findings, nodular melanoma tended to occur at a higher stage than other types, and tumors with high Clark levels and high stages showed a lower survival rate.
