Vol.13 No.1
The hypoglycemic and hypotensive effects of Polygonatum odoratum in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients were investigated in this study. Sixty five NIDDM patients were divided into two groups: hospital diet (HD), Polygonatum odoratum diet (PD). HD group was provided with the diabetic diet used in a hospital and PD group consumed the Polygonatum odoratum added to the HD. The index of obesity, the level of fasting blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), fasting and postprandial blood glucose of NIDDM patients of the PD group were significantly lowered afrer the experimental period of 4 weeks. The levels of the plasma glucose, lipid and index of obesity was measured. The tendency of elevating the level of HDL-cholesterol and lowering the levels of triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol and total cholesterol were also noticed in NIDDM patients of the PD group. The results showed that Polygonatum odoratum could be an important dietary source to control hyperglycemia and hypertension and that the plant could be recommended as a preventive or therapeutic agent for NIDDM patients.
참마 ( Dioscorea japonica Thunb ) 의 조리법개발과 그 섭취가 당뇨병환자의 혈당에 미치는 영향
임숙자,김평자 한국조리과학회 1995 한국식품조리과학회지 Vol.11 No.3
Twenty five cooking recipe with yam (Dioscorea japonica Thunb) have been developed and their hypoglycemic effects on diabetic patients were investigated. The results of the sensory evaluations revealed that the tested recipe were in good scores (overall acceptability scores 3.30-4.33) except Chojuli. The 10-panel members indicated that the yam cookings were more acceptable when they were cooked with other vegetables. Twenty seven diabetic patients were entered in a general hospital during the 2-month experimental period and they were allowed to consume the diet with yam cooking dish, 75g of yam a day. The fasting blood glucose and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose levels were determined. The diabetic patients who consumed yam showed the lower blood glucose levels than those patients who were controlled with the hospital diet only. The hypoglycemic effects of the yam were more evident in the patients who were injected with insulin. The constant lowering effects of blood glucose levels were observed in the normal subjects who had taken the yam cookery, leading to that one subject who started with a low blood glucose level must stop the yam consumption after 10 days.
혼합식이가 인슐린비의존형당뇨병 환자의 혈당과 혈압에 미치는 영향

The hypoglycemic and hypotensive effects of tangle, carrot, garlic, barley, soybean, buckwheat, mung bean, yam, perilla, water cress and Capsella bursa-pastoris on non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM) patients being hospitalized were investigated in this study. Nutrients such as crude fiber, Ca, Na, K and vitamin B_2 were abundant in all experimental materials for this study. All NIDDM patients were divided into two groups ; Hospital diet group was provided with the original diabetic diet used in the hospital, Mixed diet group was provided with the diet administered wild sesame powder, yellowish soybean powder, yam power and dried tangle powder to the hospital diet. The level of fasting blood pressure(systolic and diastolic), the level of fasting blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose after meal of NIDDM patients of the mixed diet group were significantly lowered after the experimental period. These results suggest that the experimental materials cause a hypoglycemic and hypotensive effects to NIDDM patients and show the possibility of preventive and therapeutic agent of that material to NIDDM patients. Futher research by increasing the quantity of such experimental materials should be conducted to confirm these therapeutic effects of the experimental materials for NIDDM, and more development of processed food using these materials is advisable.
