The growing popularity of eating raw fish has resulted in increase of certain human parasitic infection, such as diphyllobothriasis. Even though, upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy reveal no specific abnormality, if a patient complains of persistent abdominal pain, we should consider the possibility of parasitic infection. Careful history taking and stool examination can avoid further invasive study. We report a case of Diphyllobothrium latum infection in a patient with vague abdominal pain who showed normal finding on endoscopy. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2007;50:384-387)

The purpose of this thesis was to grasp the process of emergency department (ED) and to find out the simulation model which produces the most reliable outcome. It is the first time ever to apply system dynamics approach for ED. In this paper, schedule pressure was accounted for the development of ED operating system. Workload of ED staffs is varied depending on the number of ED patient visits which affected by time of days and situation of ED operating efficiency. Therefore the simulation model without accounting this complex dynamic situation may produce an outcome which is different from the real life situation. In this study, we developed the simulation model, which was based on the ED at the Severance hospital in Seoul, Korea.The results from this study were as follows: 1) Wait times for ED patients to receive hospital bed were applied to the ED simulation model so that the best representation of actual ED system can be developed. 2) For the first time, it was found that the schedule pressure can actually affect the ED operating system. As number of arrival patients increases, the number of patients in ED also increases and it leads the increased number of patients who required treatment. This also increases schedule pressure of ED staff and it consequently causes changes in both working hours of ED staff and treatment time per patient in ED. 3) It was found that approximately 40% of Oliva’s function is the most appropriate effect level of schedule pressure to apply for understanding of actual ED operating system.For the purposes of this study, system dynamic was used to conduct the simulation model and analyze the corresponding impacts on the actual ED system. The simulation model in this study, was based on the Emergency Department at the Severance hospital, however the methods used in this study can be applied to analyze ED operating system of other hospitals. The system dynamic approach is essential to develop the model which is an accurate representation of the actual system. Therefore a model based on system dynamic can help hospital, bank, factories, supply chains and other service areas to analyze their operating system. In this study, the stochastic simulation of the ED was used as the methodology for examining the ED system performance and it evaluated the effects of complex dynamics on ED operating efficiency.

Hovercrafts are useful transportations because it can be operated both and water. Blades for hovercraft ara one of the most important part but it can be damaged by environmental factors. The erosion shield is applied to prevent erosion damage of the blades. Bonding properties between the blade and the erosion shield are very important. This paper is trying to identify the bonding characteristics according to surface treatment. In this study, three kinds of bonding layers and five kinds of surface treatment were applied. Test was achieved according to ASTM D 1002. From the test results, mechanical treatment like etching is the most effective solution than other chemical treatment and the impact absorption pad to reduce the impact damage decreases bonding strength within are experimented range.
Voltammetric Studies of Diazocalix[4]crown-6 for Metal Ion Sensing

The complex formation between diazocalix[4]dipropyl (1) and diazocalix[4]crown-6 ether (2) with alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal ions was investigated by voltammetry. Electrochemical properties of compounds 1 and 2 and their selectivity toward metal ions were evaluated in CH3CN solution by comparison of voltammetric behaviors of two phenols in each compound. Compounds 1 and 2 showed almost same voltammetric behavior which is two irreversible oxidation peaks caused by intramolecular hydrogen bonding between two phenols in 1 and 2. While, however, upon interacting with various metal ions, 1 with two propyl ether groups showed no significant changes in voltammetry, 2 with crown ether group caused significant voltammetric changes upon the addition of Ba2+ to 2. Their behavior is closely related to the complex formation by entrapment of metal ion into crown ether cavity, and ion-dipole interaction between metal ion and two phenolic groups in calix[4]crown-6.
