The influence of oral pretreatment with ginseng(100mg/kg X 10doses) and disodium cromoglycate(5mg/kg X 10 doses) on the gastric wall mast cells of the natural saponin(500mg/kg X 1 dose)-treated mice was examined. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. Ginseng alone did not cause significant changes in the total number and degranulationration in the gastric wall mast cells, when compared with the control. 2. However, ginseng markedly prevented natural saponin-induced mast cell degranulation and decrease in their total number in stomach wall. 3. Such a massive anti-degrarulating response to ratural saponin was also observed in the disodium cromoglycate-pretreated group. These findings suggest that ginseng extract may have disodium crom oglycate-like protective action against the forceful agent of degranulation, natural saponin.

The present study was undertaken to access the effect of Korean Panax ginseng on the lipid metabolism of mice by histochemical method. Ginseng extract was daily administered to mice in amount of 20mg/Kg for 10 days intraperitoneally, and then microscopic changes were observed in the hepatic preparations stained with H & E, and oil red O. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. H & E staining showed that both the control and the ginseng-treated group were normal, and the function of hepatic cells seemed to be more promoted in the giseng group than in the control group. 2. In the control group, the distribution of lipid droplets was represented to a minimum degree by oil red O staining. 3. In the ginseng gtoup, the distribution of lipid droplets was represented to a minimum degree in hepatic central zone, but to a medium or maxium degree in the intermediate and peripheral zone of heparic lobules by the same staining. In may be considered that ginseng expedites lipogenesis in hepatic cells.

Present study conducted to obtain the reasonable concentration of Ginseng alcohol extract for the protective effect to the human red cells. At the same time, effects of Ginseng on the morphological changes in the hypotonic solution were studies. The results are summarized as followes. The reasonable concentration of Ginseng extract for the inhibition of osmotic hemolysis is 50mg% in 35mN sodium phosphate buffer(pH 7.2) at room temperature and 30 mg% at 37℃. In the morphological findings, the spherocytes and macrocytes formation of Ginseng treated red cells in the hypotonic solution suggest that Ginseng extract increases the tension of cell membrane, causing it to changes of membrane suructure.
