      • Dewey의 Humanism敎育思想의 序論的 考察

        Every theory of education is based on Humanism. The greater a theory of education is, the deeper it roots in Humanism. No one will dispute the fact that Dewey's thought, excercising the best influence upon both theory and practice in 20th century, is thoroughly set in the Humanism. Dewey's thought is directly connected with education and his education is built on the thorough Humanism. Therefore, every part of Dewey's thought centers on human beings and makes much of the relation between the social life and human beings. To interpret the relation favorably to the human life is his basic attitude. In this paper, a study was made on Dewey's Humanism with his several representative works, especially with "Democracy and Education. " Though his thought may be studied from every point of view, I try to deal with his Humanism here and its characteristics may be said as follows : 1. Philosophy and religion. His concept of truth directly applies James, view. His criteria of truth is based on the actual value and point for mankind, to which flexibility and changeableness are prerequisites. So in the philosophy and religion searching for living his interest is that "how they can serve any contribution to mankind" 2. Child-centered Education It is asserted that education originated in child education which must be "the education for children." The foundation of his philosophy of children's education, "respect the child, respect him to the end, " is adopted from the best of Rousseau's and Emerson's thought. His practical activities for education are mainly in accordance with the theory of experience or experimentalism which is the core of his philosophy. 3. School Education Therefore, Dewey's schoo1 education insists that a school be not "a place to be given", but "a place to be doing"; freedom, impulse, needs and capacities be satisfied there. The three functions of school are as follows (1) To consist of the sum total of conditions which are concerned in the execution of the activity characteristic of a living being. (2) To eliminate the unworthy features of the existing environment from influence upon mental habitudes. (3) To balance th9 various elements in the social environment, and to see to it that each individual gets an opportunity to escape from the limitations of the social group in which he was born, and to come into living contact with a broader environment. 4. The Purpose of Education Any purpose should be found in continuity. Means and aim should not be seperated from each other. His theory, denying the ultimate purpose, is unitary not dual because the present aim becomes a means to the next one. The purpose always includes "For-sight" and "End-view". So good aims of education are as follows: (1) An educational aims must be founded upon the intrinsic activities and needs (including original instinct and acquired habits) of the given individual to be educated. (2) An aim must be capable of transition into a method of operation with the activies of the se undergoing instruction. (3) Educators have to be on their guard against ends that are alleged to be general and ultimate.

        ON W4-BIRECURRENT MANIFOLDS

        On pseudo semiconformally symmetric manifolds

        In this paper, a type of Riemannian manifold (namely, pseudo semiconformally symmetric manifold) is introduced. Also the several geometric properties of such a manifold is investigated. Finally the existence of such a manifold is ensured by a proper example.

        The purpose of this study is to offer the materials for the betterment of educational activities in teachers college in Korea. In order to execute this purpose the thesis includes as following contents; (1) the examination of curriculum in the present teachers college, (2) the examination of text books now in use, (3) the examination of teaching-learning system in teachers college. From these discussions it comes as following conclusions; (1) it must improve present curriculum of teachers college. (2) it must have the free use of the variety of text books in order to encourage the enthusiasm of studying professors and for the full realizing the talent of students. (3) for the desirable school activities it must research into teaching-learning system in teachers college education.
