The Politics of Jeong and Ethical Civil Society in South Korea

In this essay, I investigate how the cultural practice ofjeong and auniquely Korean collective moral responsibility, or uri-responsibility,which it entails, have contributed to the recent reinvigoration of ethicalcivil society in democratized Korea by focusing on three civil actioncases. In order to do so, first, I critically examine key concepts like uriand jeong, and challenge the conventional image of uri as an over-weening group identity that promotes social conformism by contrastingit with the pathological group-ego. Special attention will be given to thefamily-relational characteristic of uri and two dimensions of jeong(miun jeong and goun jeong ). Then I explore the political implicationsof uri in civil society by likening it to Rousseaus general will, andfinally highlight the cultural peculiarity of uri-responsibility by compar-ing and contrasting it with two Kantian-liberal accounts of responsibili-ty, on the one hand, and with Jaspers metaphysical responsibility,on the other. The essay concludes by revisiting the ethical vision inthe classical ideal of modern civil society and by presenting a jeong-based ethical civil society as the most politically practicable and cultur-ally relevant Korean alternative.
털진달래(Rhododendon mucronulatum Turcz. var. ciliatum Nakai) 정유의 성분분석과 독성평가

The essential oil was obtained from the aerial part of Rhododendon mucronulatum Turcz. var. ciliatum Nakai by steam distillation, samples were collected by headspace (HS) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) methods, and the compositions of the oil were analyzed by gas chromatography- mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Nineteen constituents were identified from the essential oil: 15 carbohydrates, 3 alcohols, and 1 acetates. Major constituents were 2-β-pinene (16.1%), camphene (11.9%), δ-3-carene (11.4%), d,l-limonene (9.5%), and γ-terpinene (9.5%). By SPME extraction, seventeen constituents were identified: 13 hydrocarbons, 1 alcohol, 1 nitrogen-containing compound, 1 acetate, and 1 amine. Major constituents of the SPME-extracted sample were camphene (19.6%), 2-β-pinene (18.0%), δ-3-carene (17.4%), trimethyl hydrazine (9.7%), γ-terpinene (8.5%), and d,l-limonene (5.5%). By HS extraction, thirteen constituents were identified: 11 hydrocarbons, 1 alcohol, and 1 nitrogen-containing compound. Major constituents of the HS-extracted sample were camphene (25.8%), δ-3-carene (24.8%), 2-β-pinene (20.2%), d,l-limonene (5.4%), tricyclene (5.1%) and trimethyl hydrazine (4.6%). The fragrance of the essential oil was coniferous, balsamic, and woody, and the IC50 value of the essential oil was 0.030 μg/mg in MTT assay using HaCaT keratinocyte cell line. 대학 태권도선수의 자기관리가 경기력 심리결정요인과 스포츠자신감에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study is to find the relations between Taekwondo players' self-management, psychological decisional factors peak performance, and sports confidence. To achieve that, this researcher collected data from 216 university students living as Taekwondo players through convenience sampling. Based on study hypotheses, SPSS 21.0 program was used to conduct Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to secure content validity of measurement tool. Also, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The analysis results are presented as follows: First, of the sub factors of Taekwondo players' self-management, training management positively influenced all psychological decisional factors peak performance; interpersonal management positively influenced martial art psychology; mental management positively influenced martial art psychology and regulation psychology; but body management didn't influence psychological performance determinants. Secondly, of the sub factors of Taekwondo players' self-management, mental management positively influenced fighting spirit confidence and physical preparation confidence of sports confidence factors; interpersonal management positively influenced leisure confidence but negatively influenced pressure confidence; body management positively influenced fighting spirit confidence and physical preparation confidence; training management positively influenced leisure confidence. Thirdly, regarding the relations between the sub factors of Taekwondo players' psychological performance determinants and the sub factors of their sports confidence, negative psychology and functional psychology positively influenced fighting spirit confidence; regulation psychology, martial art psychology and contest psychology positively influenced physical preparation confidence; contest psychology positively influenced leisure confidence. Given all, university Taekwondo players' self-management influenced their psychological performance determinants and sports confidence, and their psychological decisional factors peak performance influenced their sports confidence. 본 연구의 목적은 태권도 선수들의 자기관리와 경기력 심리결정 요인 및 스포츠자신감의 관계를 규명하는데 있다. 이를 위해 대학에서 태권도 선수생활을 하는 대학생 216명을 편의 목적표집으로 자료를 수집하였다. 연구가설에 따라 SPSS 21.0 프로그램으로 탐색적(EFA)요인분석을 실시하여 측정도구의 내용타당도를 확보하고, 기술통계와 상관관계분석 및 중다회귀분석으로 실시한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 태권도 선수의 자기관리의 하위요인 중 훈련관리는 경리력 심리결정요인 모두에 정(+)적인 영향을 미치고, 대인관리는 무도심리, 정신관리는 무도심리와 조절심리에만 정(+)적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 몸관리는 경기력 심리결정요인에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 태권도 선수의 자기관리의 하위요인 중 정신관리는 스포츠자신감의 투지자신감과 신체준비자신감에, 대인관리는 여유자신감에 각각 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 압박자신감에는 부(-)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 몸관리는 압박자신감, 투지자신감, 신체준비자신감에만, 훈련관리는 여유자신감에만 각각 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 태권도 선수의 경기력 심리결정요인의 하위요인 중 스포츠자신감의 하위요인에 부정심리와 기능심리는 투지자신감에, 조절심리와 무도심리 및 시합심리는 신체준비자신감에, 시합심리는 여유자신감에만 각각 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 대학 태권도 선수의 자기관리는 경기력 심리결정 요인과 스포츠자신감에 영향을 주고, 경기력 심리결정 요인은 스포츠자신감에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다.
Analysis and design of a torsional vibration isolator for rotating shafts

A torsional vibration isolator which connects input and output rotating shafts was proposed in this study. For the design of the torsional vibration isolator, two dimensionless performance indices that quantify vibration isolation and response agility were defined. They were calculated using the dynamic responses of the input and output shafts connected by the torsional vibration isolator. To obtain dynamic responses of the shafts including the vibration isolator, dimensionless equations of motion were derived. By choosing proper dimensionless design parameters, the vibration isolation performance could be sufficiently improved while response agility performance maintained within an acceptable range. The proposed performance analysis procedure could be effectively employed for the design of the torsional vibration isolator.
