An intensive survey was made by examining 1,643 heads of milk cows at 188 dairy farms located around the area of Seoul and Gyeong-Giprovince in order to get some idea on the current status of artificial insemination in Korea. The results obtained by this survey were as follows: 1. The average size of feeding dairy cattle was 13.5 heads. Two to 6 years cows were 81.0%. The cows that experienced 1 to 4 deliveries were 82.7%. The sex ratio of female calves to male was 54.53%. 2. A first heat appeared within 7 to 16 months in 92.4% of heifer, and the first pregnancy was in 14 to 18 months, the ratio being 83.4% The average empty period was 3. 6 months and the averge calving interval was 14 months. 3. The successful conception ratio with the first A.I. was 54.4% and 92.6% after the third A.I. The average A.I. frequancy for successful conception per head was 1.8. 4. The breeding status was the same as pregnancy of 55.9%, uncertain pregnancy, 21.2% physiological empty 16.4% and reproductive disorer, 6.5%, respectively. 5. The annual average conception statistics appeared to be as the following: Conception by one A.I. was 51.6%, 1 to 3 A.I. 90.4%, and the average frequancy per head was 1.92.

The status of artificial insemination was surveyed by investigating 20796 heads of adult dairy cattle out of 30464 heads at 1649 dairy farms located Seoul and Gyung-Gi and Chung-Cheong province area, and the results are as follows: 1. There were 286 small farms feeding less than 5 heads occupying 17.3% of total farm number, and 1083 medium sized dairy farms feeding between $6{\sim}20$ heads occupying 65.64% and also 280 large dairy farms feeding more than 21 heads occupying 17.06% of total. 2. Population of cow aging from 2 to 6 years were 87.26% and among 20907 heads of dairy cattles which had calved previously 13196 heads had histories of one to four calving 90.40%. 3. The successful conception rate with first A. I. occupied only 53.43% and 92.4% after third A. I. service. The average A. I. frequency for successful conception per/head was 1.8 times. 4. The breeding status was pregnancy 61.72%, uncertain pregnancy 19.39%, and as physiological vacancy 12.48% and reproductive disorders 10.62%. 5. Among 1264 heads of reproductive disorders 856 heads were clue to ovarian diseases and occupied 68.98% of total disorders and uterus diseases 10.64% and repeat breeders occupied 17.64%.

This experiment was carried out to develop an ideal diluter for the preservation of liquic boar semen. In the second report, an excellent diluter was selected out of 10 diluters previously reported by other workers in and out of the country. The excellent diluent was set up as a control in this experiment. This experiment was systematically conducted to find more effective levels of dextrose, sodium citrate, potassium tartrate, egg yolk, E.D.T.A. and storage-temperature. Only sperm-rich part of the semen collected from 3 Landrace-boars was used. Semen eras diluted at the ratio of 1 to 3 and preserved at 0-5℃, 8-10℃ and 15℃, respectively. During the preservation-period, sperm motility and vitality were examined 6 times every 24 hours for 120 hours. The results were as follows: 1. The new excellent diluter was composed of dextrose … 3.5% sodium citrate … 0-0.29% potassium sodium tartrate … 0.02% egg yolk … 2-4% E.D.T.A.… 0.1-0.2% penicillin … 1000 IU/㎖ streptomycin … 0.1g/100㎖ Sperm motilities of the new diluter for 6 days were 73%, 70%, 60%, 60% and 53%, respectively. And those of the control were 72%, 65%, 55%, 17% and 0%. In sperm motility, significant difference was statistically recognized between the new diluter and the control(p$lt;0.01). 2. It was concluded that remarkable increase in sperm motility could be induced by using diluents added with E.D.T.A. at rate of 0.1 to 0.2%. 3. The optimum temperature for preservation was 8 to 15℃.
정상인 및 당뇨병 환자에서의 혈청 H.D.L.-Cholesterol 치에 관한 연구

The present study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between normal persons and diabetic patients in serum H.D.L. -Cholesterol levels. Serum H.D.L. -Cholesterol was measured in 97 normal persons and 39 diabetic patients by modified phosphotungstate magnesium precipitation method(enzyme method). The results obtained were as follows: 1. Mean serum H.D.L. -Cholesterol in normal person was 46.5±7.5mg%, revealing significantly higher value in female (49.5±6.4mg%) than in male(43.9±7.6mg%). 2. H.D.L. -Cholesterol increased gradually by aging from 20 to 39 years, however it was not consistent among the groups over 40 years. 3. H.D.L. -Cholesterol in diabetic patients was 36.1±6.1mg% (32.1±3.9mg% in male, 40.9±4.6mg% in female) and it was significantly lower than in normal subjects. 4. In the patients with diabetes mellitus serum H.D.L. -Cholesterol concentration decreased inversely according to elevation of fasting blood glucose level.

In or der to investigate the rolls played by extracts of Crude Drugs, used commonly in the practice of Chinese medicine, on the storage time of sperm cell, processed Ginseng, Licorice, Garlic, Ginger, Chestnut flower honey, Bush clover honey, Clover-flower honey were tested and the results of investigation are as follows. 1. The optimal concentration providing longest storage time of sperm cell among various plants when added to semen were; processed Ginseng extract 0.1%, Licorice 10%, Garlic 10%, Ginger 10%, Chestnut flower honey 1% Bush clover honey 1%, Clover-flower honey 1%, respectively. When higher concentrations than above were used the storage time of sperm cell become shortened in proportion to the concentration of test material. 2. The storage time was longest when P H was closer to neutral point. 3. Bush-clover haney seemed to be least toxic to sperm cell among honey groups. 4. Test materials except honey did not seem to effect a beneficial influence for the prolongation of sperm storage, and the honey alone appear worth continuing further investigation.

This experiment was carried out to develop an ideal diluter for the preservation of boar semen. Ten excellent diluters previously reported by other workers in and out of the country were selected for the test. Diluted semen at the ratio of 1 to 3 were preserved at 0-5℃ and 15℃ respectively. During the preservation-period, sperm motility and livability were examined 6 times every 24 hours for 120 hours. The results were as follow: 1. The excellent diluter was composed of glucose … 1.5g fructose … 1.5g tris. … 3.028g citric acid … 1.74g glycine … 0.047g catalase … 0.02㎖ egg yolk … 20% distilled water … 100㎖ 2. Sperm motility of this diluter for 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 days were 72%, 63%, 58%, 53%, 17% and 0%, respectively. 3. Preservative temperature at 15℃ was better than 0-5℃.
