        당근과 시금치 저장에 있어서 자몽종자추출물의 항균효과

        In order to preserve the freshness of vegetables and to reduce the rate of decay, grapefruit seed extract (GFSE), a natural microorganism growth inhibiting agent, was applied during the preservation process of heat treated carrot and spinach. To investigate synergic effect of heat and GFSE treatment, carrots and spinaches were treated with or without 10 ppm of GFSE at $70^{\circ}C$. Surface color, texture and microbial counts of the samples were measured during storage at $4^{\circ}C$. GFSE showed an effective inhibitory activity against aerobic bacteria and yeast which might be involved in the decay of vegetables. Heat treatment at 2 min at $70^{\circ}C$ could also well preserve the color and texture of the vegetables. From the results, optimal concentrations of GFSE were 10 ppm and 50 ppm with heat treatment of 2 min $70^{\circ}C$ for the growth inhibitory effect to aerobic bacteria and yeast and preservation of color and texture. 본 연구에서는 천연 항균제 CFSE를 이용하여 적절한 온도 하에서 당근과 시금치의 저장성 향상에 대한 효과를 보았다. 먼저, $70^{\circ}C$ 및 $90^{\circ}C$에서의 당근과 시금치의 열처리에 대한 영향과 아울러 GFSE 첨가시의 효과에 대한 예비 실험을 실시한 결과, 당근과 시금치의 경우 CFSE첨가에 관계없이 $70^{\circ}C$에서 2 분간 열처리하였을 때 비교적 정상적인 색상과 texture유지 및 미생물의 생육억제 가능성을 나타내었다. 이들 예비실험으로부터 이후 열처리는 $70^{\circ}C$에서 고정하고 GFSE의 농도별 영향을 실시한 결과, GFSE를 10 ppm 이상 첨가한 경우 당근이나 시금치 모두 $4^{\circ}C$에서 저장 17일까지 호기성세균 및 yeast의 성장을 억제하는 효과를 보였으며 특히 50 ppm 이상에서는 뚜렷한 억제 효과를 보였다. 당근과 시금치의 다양한 농도의 GFSE 첨가와 아울러 $70^{\circ}C$ 2 분간 처리는 이미 1차 실험에서와 같이 색상 및 조직의 연화에는 영향이 없었다. 그러므로 잔류독성 문제가 대두되고 있는 화학 항균제가 아닌 천연 항균제 GFSE를 활용한 과일과 채소류의 저장성을 높인 상품을 개발함으로서 소비자들에게 호응을 얻을 수 있는 식품으로써의 개발이 가능할 것이다.

        천연자원으로부터 아실코에이: 콜레스테롤아실 전달효소 저해제의 탐색

        Acyl-CoA: Cholesterol Acyltransferase (ACAT) is a key enzyme responsible for cholesteryl ester formation in atherogenesis and in cholesterol absorption from the intestines. In addition under pathological conditions, formation and accumulation of cholesteryl ester as lipid droplets by ACAT within macrophages constitute a characteristic feature of early lesions of atherosclerotic plaques. ACAT inhibitors are expected to be effective for treatment of atherosclerosis and hypercholesterolemia. ACAT inhibitors of natural origin have been rarely reported. In our screening program for ACAT inhibitors, 303 plants were extracted with methanol or ethanol, and screened for the inhibitory activity against ACAT from the rat liver microsome. Extracts of 13 plants including Quercus aliena, Diospyros kaki, Platycarya strobilacea and Hibiscus syriacus inhibited more than 90% of ACAT activity and 43 samples in alcohol extracts such as Magnolia obovata and Panax ginseng also inhibited more than 70% of ACAT activity at a concentration of $100\;{\mu}g/ml$.

        경상북도 청도군, 운문호의 식물플랑크톤 우점종 변동과 수화현상의 수문학적 발생원인

        The variations of species compositions, standing crops and seasonal succession of phytoplanktons including Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Bacillariophyceae were investigated with physico-chemical elements of water to clarify the causes of water bloom according to the water depth in the Lake Unmun. The increased amounts of turbidity, T-N, T-P and SS originated from heavy rain and typhoon in the middle of June provoked to produce phytoplanktons. In July and August, the dominant species was Peridinium sp., while the subdominant species was Microcystis aeruginosa. In October, Aulacoseira distans was dominant and Asterionella formosa was subdominant. During the period of water shortage, the concentrated pollutants caused the decrease of precipitation, the long stagnation time of water body and the mixed pollutants by upwelling as decreasing water temperature could accelerate the water bloom. The preventives to decrease microalgal generation should be controled by the stagnation time of water body by increasing outflow to intercept water bloom such as ulacoseira sp. in October as well as summer.

        방광을 침범한 신경섬유종증 1례

        Neurofibromatosis is a rare systemic disease, and genitourinary tract involvement is especially uncommon. Bladder is the most frequently involved organ in the genitourinary tract. Bladder neurofibromatosis may present as a diffuse infiltrative process or an isolated neurofibroma. The symptoms vary, ranging from urinary incontinence to retention. Treatment is usually conservative. The patient should be worked up to rule out other manifestation of tumor enlargement and followed to evaluate the development of new lesion. We report a case of the development of invasion of bladder in a patient with neurofibromatosis. 신경섬유종증은 드문 전신질환 중의 하나로 비뇨생식기계를 침범하는 경우는 극히 드물다고 알려져 있으나 비뇨생식기계를 침범하는 경우에는 그 기관으로 방광이 가장 흔하다. 비뇨생식기계를 침범하는 경우 증상이 나타나기 전까지 그 침범여부를 알기 어려운 경우가 많기 때문에 정기적인 추적관찰 중 비뇨생식기계 증상이 나타난다면 정밀검사를 시행하여 침범상태를 정확히 판단할 필요가 있겠다. 치료 방법으로는 보존적인 치료가 대부분이지만 종양의 크기가 클 경우 종양절개를 하는 경우도 있으나 매우 드물고, 보존적 치료와 동시에 종양의 크기 증가여부에 대하여 정기적인 추적관찰이 요구된다. 저자들은 소아에서 방광을 침범한 신경섬유종증이 증상을 나타낸 경우로 보존적 치료 후 경과관찰 중인 환아 1례를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다.

        정체 수역 내에서 미세조류의 생리생화학적 분석에 의한 수화발생 잠재력 탐색

        Algal growth potentials were probed by algal growth rates, maximal PSII quantum yields and ATP amount as well as dry weights of algae to evaluate the water fertility due to the algal growth in the stream (CT) and stagnant watershed (WW). Oscillatoria agardhii (CY) and Coelastrum reticulatum (CH) were cultured in nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) starvation media (CH-10 medium) and re-inoculated in CT and WW for 7 days. Cell division rates of CY were the highest (k = 7.5) in WW after N starvation, while those of CH were the hight (k = 2.97) in WW after P starvation. The growth of CY was limited by P, while that of CH was by N. Conversely, maximal PSII quantum yields of CH were generally higher than those of CY in CT and WW according to culture time. CY was much more sensibly adapted than CH according to the variations of nutrient amounts in WW. The water fertility was much higher in WW than in CT. The potential assessment tool for water fertility will be able to compensate for the limit of physio-chemical analyses and to be applied as a monitoring system to forecast red-tide.

        독도 연안의 하계 수환경과 미세조류의 종조성 변화

        This study was carried out to investigate the charateristics of environmental factors and the species compositions of phytoplanktons and periphytons in order to analyze the marine ecosystem (DOK1-3) with freshwater (Mul) in the coast of Dokdo. Mean values of conductivity (TSD) (44.3 mS cm?1), total dissolved solids (30.9 mg L?1), salinity (31.8 psu), total suspended solids (39.2 mg L?1), and ash-free dry matter (AFDM) (8.8 mg L?1) were higher in DOK1- 3 than those in Mul (3.2 mS cm?1, 2.3 mg L?1, 1.9 psu, 2.8 mg L?1 and 2.8 mg L?1, espectively), while mean amounts of soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) (7.5 μg P L?1) and soluble reactive silicon (SRS) (0.1 μg Si L?1) were significantly lower in DOK1-3 than those in Mul (117.3 μg P L?1 and 4,105 μg Si L?1, respectively). The phytoplanktons was a total of 59 species in Dokdo, which were composed of 1 species (1.7%) for Chrysophyceae, 43 species (72.9%) for Bacillariophyceae and 15 species (25.4%) for Dinophyceae. The biomass (Chl-a, phaeopigment and AFDM) of epilithic algae (ELA), epizooic algae (EZA) and epiphytic algae (EPA) were varied with the kinds of substrates (EPA > ELA > EZA) in the whole stations. Water environments was comparatively clean in the coast of Dokdo as comparing with those of the land. However, the monitoring of marine ecosystem in the Dokdo should be continued for species conservation according to the global warming by the climatic change.

        한의과대학생 대상 기본심폐소생술 교육 효과: 태도, 지식 및 술기 영역에서

        Objectives : Basic life support (BLS) is considered one of the essential clinical skills medical students should master. Nevertheless, neither the current state of education nor the educative effect of and attitudes toward BLS in Korean medical students have yet been reported. The aim of this study was to examine the educative effect of BLS training for Korean medical students in terms of attitudes, knowledge, and skills. Methods : Surveys concerning attitudes toward BLS and its education, and tests for knowledge and scheme performance were conducted with 85 students in a college of Korean medicine under training for American Heart Association (AHA) BLS course for healthcare providers. Results : Before training, 70.6% of students answered they felt the necessity to be trained in the BLS course. The levels of confidence to perform and self-presumed knowledge on BLS were low at first. After training, however, the level of confidence and knowledge increased significantly. In the final test, the mean scores of written test and scheme performance significantly decreased, while the level of confidence didn't. Most of the participants answered they wanted to be re-trained under regular re-education system. Conclusions : To evaluate the current state of BLS education and its educative effect in Korean medical schools, it's required to expand the target of research to larger number of colleges and students over the country.

        Combined Primary IgA nephropathy and Membranous Glomerulonephritis in a Child

        IgA 신병증은 사구체 중맥에 IgA가 침착하는 것이 특징적인 질환이며 막성 사구체 신염은 IgG가 사구체 기저막의 상피하에 미만성으로 침착하는 질환이다. 원발성 사구체 질환중 IgA 신병증과 막성 사구체신염은 비교적 흔한 질환이나 전체적인 빈도는 낮은 편으로, 한 환자의 사구체에서 두 질환이 동시에 발생하는 경우는 매우 드물다. IgA 신병증과 막성 사구체신염의 중복 신염은 Doi등이 1983년 원발성 신질환으로서 처음 보고한 이래, 성인에서 20여례가 보고되었다. 저자들은 신증후군이 발생한 환아에서 신생검을 시행한 결과 원발성 신질환으로서 IgA 신병증과 막성 사구체신염의 소견이 동시에 보이는 중복신염의 드문 예를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. 환아는 7세된 남아로 내원 한달 전부터 발생한 전신부종을 주소로 내원하였다. 가족력과 과거력상 특이 소견없었으며, 내원시 이학적 소견상 전신적인 허약감과 안와부종, 복부팽만, 하지의 함요부종이 관찰되었고, 검사소견에서는 WBC $19,800/mm^3$, Hb 14.1g/dL, Platelet $397,000/mm^3$, BUN/Cr 10/0.4mg/dL, protein/albumin 4.43/2.73g/dL, cholesterol 429mg/dL, IgA 85mg/dL, $C_3$ 68.8mg/dL, $C_4$ 13.4mg/dL, ANA(-), ANCA(-), RF(-), HBsAg/Ab(-/-)이었다. 뇨검사에서는 RBC many/HPF, WBC 2-3/HPF, protein ${\le}\;300mg/dL$ 였으며, 24시간 소변 검사상 protein 9.18g/day, Ccr 66.67ml/min의 소견을 보였다. 신생검을 시행한 결과 광학현미경상에서 몇몇 사구체의 분절성 경화와 중맥역의 증식이 관찰되었고, 면역형광현미경검사에서는 IgA(3+)가 과립상으로 미만성 분포를 보이며 중맥역에 침착되어 있고, 미세한 과립상과 위선의 양상으로 IgG(1+)가 모세혈관벽에 침착되어 있었으며, 전자현미경 소견상 중맥역과 모세혈관 기저막 상피하에 소량의 전자 고밀도 침착이 함께 관찰되었다. 환아는 prednisolone을 경구 투여 받았으나 단백뇨와 혈뇨가 지속되어 solumedrol pulse therapy, captopril과 cyclophophamide로 치료 받은 후, 전신 상태 호전되고, 혈뇨가 사라졌으며, 24시간 소변 검사상 단백뇨가 487.5mg/day로 감소하여 외래에서 추적 관찰 중이다.
