In this study, we investigated the correlation between the ignition characteristics, particularly two-stage ignition behavior, and fuel’s octane sensitivity. Using chemical kinetic simulations of 24 Toluene Reference Fuels/ethanol blends, a metric that represents the strength of the two-stage ignition behavior is developed. Regression analysis shows that a fuel with higher octane sensitivity tends to exhibit weaker two-stage ignition characteristics. Based on the correlation, an octane sensitivity prediction method is devised, which will benefit future fuel surrogate development.

The presence of non-condensable gases as an additional thermal resistance inside a refrigerating circuit has been found for a general refrigerator. The effect of non-condensable gases was varied by controlling the injection amount of dry air into the refrigerating circuit to increase a thermal resistance. Energy consumption tests for the refrigerator were conducted under the various amounts of non-condensable gases. The tested refrigerating circuit was the household refrigerator. As the molar fraction of non-condensable gases was increased from 0% to 1.46%, the amount of energy consumption was found to increase up to 25%. The increase of the amount of non-condensable gases in refrigerating circuit was found to result in increasing the condensation temperature at the condenser and decreasing the evaporation temperature at the evaporator, which were presumably caused by the low specific heat and increased partial pressure of non-condensable gas.

The motion estimation of H.264 has an important effect on speed and performance. We modified the octagonal search algorithm with early termination (OSA with ET) to improve the search speed. Since horizontal moves are more frequent than vertical moves, we search first in horizontal direction. This improvement reduced the motion estimation time by 13.7% to 43.2% than that of UMHexagonS, and by 7.5% to 10.2% than that of OSA with ET, respectively.
