        Use of triazolam and alprazolam as premedication for general anesthesia

        Background: Triazolam has similar pharmacological properties as other benzodiazepines and is generally used as a sedative to treat insomnia. Alprazolam represents a possible alternative to midazolam for the premedication of surgical patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anxiolytic, sedative, and amnestic properties of triazolam and alprazolam as pre-anesthetic medications. Methods: Sixty adult patients were randomly allocated to receive oral triazolam 0.25 mg or alprazolam 0.5 mg one hour prior to surgery. A structured assessment interview was performed in the operating room (OR), the recovery room, and the ward. The levels of anxiety and sedation were assessed on a 7-point scale (0 = relaxation to 6 = very severe anxiety) and a 5-point scale (0 = alert to 4 = lack of responsiveness), respectively. The psychomotor performance was estimated using a digit symbol substitution test. As a memory test, we asked the patients the day after the surgery if they remembered being moved from the ward to the OR, and what object we had shown them in the OR. Results: There were no significant differences between the groups with respect to anxiety and sedation. The postoperative interviews showed that 22.2% of the triazolam-treated patients experienced a loss of memory in the OR, against a 0% memory loss in the alprazolam-treated patients. In comparison with alprazolam 0.5 mg, triazolam 0.25 mg produced a higher incidence of amnesia without causing respiratory depression. Conclusions: Oral triazolam 0.25 mg can be an effective preanesthetic medication for psychomotor performance.

        Effect of Annealing on a-Si:H Thin Films Fabricated by RF Magnetron Sputtering

        The effect of annealing under argon atmosphere on hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin films deposited at room temperature and $300^{\circ}C$ using Radio Frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering has been investigated. For the films deposited at room temperature, there was not any increase in hydrogen content and optical band gap of the films, and as a result, quality of the films was not improved under any annealing conditions. For the films deposited at $300^{\circ}C$, on the other hand, significant increases in hydrogen content and optical band gap were observed, whereas values of microstructure parameter and dark conductivity were decreased upon annealing below $300^{\circ}C$. In this study, it was proposed that the Si-HX bonding strength is closely related to deposition temperature. Also, the improvement in optical, electrical and structural properties of the films deposited at $300^{\circ}C$ was originated from thermally activated hydrogen bubbles, which were initially trapped at microvoids in the films.

        니체주의적 경합적 민주주의는 샹탈 무페 모델의 대안이 될 수 있는가?

        This article examines whether Nietzschean agonistic democracy theory can be a plausible alternative to Chantal Mouffe’s model. Agonistic democracy theory has Carl Schmitt or Nietzsche as its philosophical source. In the case of Mouffe, she constructed her model based on Schmitt. However, her Schmitt-based model is vulnerable to four criticisms. First, the distinction between ‘worthy opponents’ and ‘enemy’ is ambiguous. Second, it is inconsistent to simultaneously claim ‘the ontological fundamentality of antagonism’ and ‘agonism without antagonism.’ Third, her agonism can not capture the pluralistic world, since it is trapped in the telos of self-preservation. Fourth, there are no theoretical factors to maintain her agonism, and there is no explanation for the degree of conflict that can sustain her model. Unlike Mouffe, Nietzschean like Connolly and Owen provides agonistic democracy theories based on Nietzsche. After analyzing and reconstructing Nietzsche’s text and Nietzschean’s discussions, I will argue that the Nietzschean model can overcome some thresholds of Mouffe’s model. 본 논문은 니체에 기반한 경합적 민주주의 모델이 샹탈 무페 모델의 합리적 대안이 될 수 있는지 검토한다. 경합적 민주주의 이론은 칼 슈미트 또는 니체를 사상적 원천으로 지닌다. 한국에서 자주 논의되는 무페가 슈미트의 철학에 기반하여 자신 고유의 경합적 민주주의 모델을 구성한다. 그러나 슈미트에 근거를 두는 그녀 모델은 다음 네 비판에 취약하다. 첫째, 정당한 상대방과 적에 대한 구분이 모호하다. 둘째, 적대의 존재론적 근본성과 적대 아닌 경합을 동시에 주장하는 것은 논리적으로 비일관적이다. 셋째, 그녀가 말하는 경합은 자기 보존이라는 텔로스에 갇혀 있어 실질적으로 다원적 세계를 포착하지 못한다. 넷째, 경합 유지 수단에 관한 이론적 요소가 없고, 경합을 유지할 수 있는 갈등의 정도에 대한 설명도 없다. 무페와 달리 코널리와 오웬을 비롯한 니체주의자들은 니체에 기반하여 경합적 민주주의 모델을 구축한다. 필자는 니체의 텍스트와 니체주의자들의 논의를 분석 및 재구성한 후, 니체주의적 모델이 앞서 언급한 무페 모델의 한계들을 다소간 극복할 수 있다고 주장할 것이다.

        Risk Factors and Survival Outcomes for Patients With Anastomotic Leakage After Surgery for Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Objectives. This study evaluated the risk factors for anastomotic leakage (AL) and survival outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Methods. Patients with HNSCC who underwent surgery carrying potential AL from 2003 through 2009 were included in this study. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed and patient survival was calculated by the Kaplan- Meier method. Results. Of 232 eligible patients, 25 (10.8%) developed AL. Univariate analyses revealed that primary tumor site, salvage surgery, perineural invasion, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and blood transfusion were significantly associated with the occurrence of AL (P<0.05). Independent risk factors for AL were salvage surgery and blood transfusion (P<0.01). On univariate analysis, AL was significantly associated with overall (OS) and disease-free survivals (DFS; P<0.05) but not with decreased locoregional control (LRC) rate (P=0.07). The 5-year DFS rate was significantly different be- tween the non-leakage and leakage groups (70.9% vs. 27.7%, P<0.001). Multivariate analysis showed, however, that AL was not an independent variable of LRC, DFS, or OS (P>0.1). Conclusion. Patients who received salvage surgery and blood transfusion may require careful surveillance for development of AL, which has a tendency toward decreased survival.

        지속가능경영과 다양성: 제도주의이론 관점에서 본 이사회 내 여성 임원 비율

        This paper examines the effects of corporate behaviors related to sustainable management which are presumably intended to attain institutional legitimacy on the diversity of board of directors in terms of the proportion of female executives in board composition. While previous studies focused mainly on roles of female board members in the advancement of corporate social responsibility or accounting transparency, we pay attention to the institutional factors that may affect female executives’ participation in the board of directors. The results of our empirical analysis of leading Korean corporations in terms of market capitalization from 2014 to 2018 show that corporate characteristics and behaviors related to sustainability and institutional dynamics, such as publishing sustainability report, sensitivity of environmental issues, and visibility within institutional fields, have positive effects on the participation of female executives in the board of directors, as predicted in our hypotheses.

        One of the most important considerations in animal cell cultivation is in determining the composition of the cell culture medium. Also, there has been extensive efforts to identify suitable alternatives to serum components. It is desirable to use serum-free medium due to the cost-effective supply of media and consistent production of therapeutic protein. Serumfree medium can be optimized for the physiological conditions in order to maximize cell growth and productivity of therapeutic protein. Among mammalian cells, chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells are one of the most frequently used cell lines for the expression of recombinant proteins that require post-translational modification to express full biological function. CHO cell line which are dihydrofolate reductase deficient (dhfr-) have been used extensively for this purpose. In this study, a serum-free medium were developed for the production of recombinant antibody by rCHO cells and various components for the fortified medium were evaluated to enhanced the cell growth and productivity of recombinant antibody.

        Thermal-hydraulic study of air-cooled passive decay heat removal system for APR+ under extended station blackout

        The air-cooled passive decay heat removal system (APDHR) was proposed to provide the ultimate heatsink for non-LOCA accidents. The APDHR is a modified one of Passive Auxiliary Feed-water system (PAFS)installed in APRþ. The PAFS has a heat exchanger in the Passive Condensate Cooling Tank (PCCT) and canremove decay heat for 8 h. After that, the heat transfer rate through the PAFS drastically decreasesbecause the heat transfer condition changes from water to air. The APDHR with a vertical heat exchangerin PCCT will be able to remove the decay heat by air if it has sufficient natural convection in PCCT. Weconducted the thermal-hydraulic simulation by the MARS code to investigate the behavior of theAPR þ selected as a reference plant for the simulation. The simulation contains two phases based onwater depletion: the early phase and the late phase. In the early phase, the volume of water in PCCT wasdetermined to avoid the water depletion in three days after shutdown. In the late phase, when thenumber of the HXs is greater than 4089 per PCCT, the MARS simulation confirmed the long-term coolingby air is possible under extended Station Blackout (SBO).
