MDA (methylenedianiIine), which is produced as a by-product during glycolysis reaction of waste polyurethane foam, can be effectively removed as anhydride compounds such as phthalic and maleic anhydride instead of oxide compounds. Maleic anhydride can not be used as a polyol raw material in PUF (rigid polyurethane foam) synthesis because of its high viscosity after 2nd synthesis. The decreasing rate of MDA contained in recycled polyol remarkably falls off as the mole ratio of phthaIic anhydride increased. The OH value of modified recycled polyol does not show any changes as the mole ratio of phthaIic anhydride increased more than 4 mole. The removal rate of MDA decreased to 97% when phthaIic anhydride is added with the mol ratio of 6.
