한국에는 다양한 기원신화가 존재한다. 하지만 그 신화적 성격이 약화된 모습이어서 신화로서의 온전한 자리매김을 못하고 있는 상황이다. 이 글은 이런 기원신화들 중 생산물기원신화를 살펴 그 의미와 성격을 살피고자 마련된 글이다. 우리의 생산물기원신화는 곡물기원신화와 해산물기원신화로 구분할 수 있다. 곡물기원신화에 해당되는 자료로는 〈동명왕편〉과 〈삼성시조신화〉, 〈세경본풀이〉 등을 들 수 있으며, 곡물의 기원을 천상을 비롯한 외부로부터 가져오는 형태를 보여준다. 해산물기원신화에 해당하는 신화로는 〈문전본풀이〉를 들 수 있으며, 사체화생형 신화의 모습을 보인다. 이런 우리나라 생산물기원신화의 특징을 정리해보면, 첫째, 문헌 및 구전신화 모두로 전승된다는 점, 둘째, 곡물기원과 해산물기원이 서로 다른 신화 형태를 보인다는 점, 셋째, 곡물기원신화는 목축의 기원 및 직물의 기원을 밝히는 것과도 밀접하게 결합되어 있다는 점, 넷째, 해산물기원신화는 사체화생형 신화 모습을 보이지만 측신의 몸에서 생긴다는 점에서 배설물에서 작물이 생겨나는 형태와 관련이 있다는 점을 들 수 있다. 한편 생산물기원신화는 이웃한 일본에도 『고사기』 와 『일본서기』 등에 다양하게 전승되고 있다. 일본의 생산물기원신화는 우리 신화보다 풍부하고 비교적 온전한 양상을 보여주고 있어, 이런 일본신화와의 비교를 통해 우리 생산물기원신화의 성격 및 기능이 보다 명확해질 수 있을 것이다. 일본의 생산물기원신화를 우리 것과 비교해보면 첫째, 한국의 것은 곡물의 기원을 외부로부터 유입하는 데서 찾는 반면 일본의 것은 배설 및 사체화생에서 기원을 찾고 있어 그 존재양상이나 형태에 있어 차이가 적지 않다는 점, 둘째, 양국의 신화 모두 곡물기원과 더불어 목축기원 및 직조기원이 수반되기는 형태이지만 우리 신화의 경우 목축기원과 긴밀히 결합되는 반면 일본 신화는 직조기원과 더 긴밀히 결합되는 양상을 보인다는 점, 셋째, 우리 것보다 일본의 생산물기원신화가 보다 세부적이고 구체적이며 확장된 양상을 보인다는 점 등의 양상을 보인다. There are various ‘origin’ myths in Korea. Considering their weakened mythical characteristics, it seems the founding myths have not taken right places in the Korean mythology. This paper aims to clarify the meanings and characteristics of a specific kind of myths originated from farm or fishing products and this sort of mythology consists of two parts: crops-based myths and sea products-based myths. Literal references for the former are 〈Dongmyeongwangpyeon〉, 〈Samseongsijosinhwa〉, and 〈Segyeongbonpuri〉 and all of these say that the origin of the crop is from outside world including the heaven. 〈Munjeonbonpuri〉 exemplifies the latter with showing phenomena of the second appearance from deceased bodies. A series of research summarize distinctive features of Korea’s origin myths: 1) the origin myths have handed down literally and orally; 2) crops-based myths and sea products-based myths have different types of mythology; 3)crop-based myths are closely related to the origin of livestock farming and textile manufacturing; 4) sea products-based myths show a common factor of phenomena of the second appearance from deceased bodies and considering a point related to deceased bodies, we can find similar origin that crops are from exudates. Meanwhile this kind of origin myth can be found in some Japanese literarys such as 〈Gosagi〉 and 〈Ilbonseogi〉. Since Japanese orogin myths show more sufficient and intact aspects compared to Korean ones, in order to understand the authentic feature of the Korean products origin mythology, it may be a good way to compare two countries’ products origin myths in a systematic way. A comparative study can bring three major points: 1) while Korean myths seek its origin of crops from outside, Japanese ones do from the deceased body or excretion; 2) it is a common feature that both countries’ mythology accompany livestock farming and textile manufacturing. Closely looking at details, Korean myths have close links to livestock farming, while Japanese ones to textile manufacturing; 3) it is true that Japanese mythology in origin based stories, show more comprehensive and extending aspects than Korean ones.
