The purpose of this study was to determine the exercise intensity of Tae Kwon Do competition in terms of heart rate(HR) and blood lactate concentration (La). Also, in order to measure anaerobic capacity in Tae Kwon Do players Wingate Anaerobic Power Test(WAPT) was performed. Ten male subjects (age 20.7 yr, Ht 175.cm, Wt 66.9kg) were volunteered from a university of P.E. Tae Kwon Do team. All subjects are well trained elite martial artists. The results of WAPT demonstrated that mean power output and peak power output in Tae Kwon Do players were 596.86±34.38watts, 762.96±74.39watts, respectively. Throughout the competition(2min/3rounds), average HR and La were 190.1±7.42b/min and 6.66±1.29mmol/l After 30min from the end of Tae Kwon Do competition, the recovery rate for HR and La were 89.42%. 65.19%, respectively. In summary, this study revealed that Tae Kwon Do is a very intensive sport requiring the athletes' 95% of maxHR. Also, considering the only 65.19% La recovery rate and many games in a day it would be beneficial for the athletes for the improve the utilization of anaerobic energy system in order to remove La quickly.
