This study was conducted to evaluate the variation characteristics of influent and effluent quality from sewage treatment facilities using activated sludge processes and to assess the impact caused by discharge of treated sewage on the receiving water. Monthly data of five water quality items (BOD, COD, SS, T-N, T-P) were used to understand the water quality at three sewage treatment plants in Seoul for five years from 1999 to 2003.<br/> Concentration differences of water quality parameters were observed between upstream and downstream site at the sewage treatment plant outfall to investigate the impact of discharge in Tan stream and Han river basin.<br/> 1. Due to the effect of continuous improvement in sewer system, the concentrations of influent went on increasing generally.<br/> 2. Effluent concentrations of BOD, COD and SS showed the trend of a little decreasing, but the trend of increasing in T-N and T-P.<br/> 3. In Tan stream basin, the impact of sewage treatment plant discharge was not observed directly, because concentration of discharge was lower than stream water's. But discharges from sewage treatment plants affected water quality at downstream site in Han river, concentration of T-P especially.
This paper analyzes the customer behavior on high efficiency inverter program in terms of rebate levels. The importance of high efficiency DSM programs has been more and more increased after deregulation. Especially, the inverter program is one of the most high efficiency DSM programs, so this paper presents proper rebate levels in terms of both participants and non-participants to promote diffusion of the inverters.
This study has been carried out to provide the basic data obtained from the evaluation of the variation of water quality around the Chudong intake tower in Daechung resevoir, which may be able to help the establishment of a pure water supply policy. Five sites around the Chudong intake tower were selected, and the average data for recent ten years(from year 2004 to year 2013) were analysed. The average water quality around Chudong intake tower are as followed; pH 7.5, DO 8.7 mg/L, BOD 1.0 mg/L, COD 3.0 mg/L, SS 3.0 mg/L, TN 1.495 mg/L, TP 0.017 mg/L, and Chlorophyll-a 6.5 mg/m3 were matched the good class by comparing with the living environment standard of reservoir. COD values of higher than 3.0 mg/L after July were likely due to non-point pollutants and algae outbreak during rainy summer season. Total phosphorus rose sharply in the summer season, and then algae watch was issued consistently for average 40 days. Total nitrogen to total phosphorus ratio was average 90, and it is important to control the inflow phosphrous from small stream for proper management to block an algae growth according to eutrophication. It was recommended to operate the algae removing boats around intake tower from July to October, and was required advanced water treatment processes to remove NBD COD and bad odor and taste due to algae growth.
