A Case of Pulmonary Fibrosis with Lung Lobe Torsion in a Pekinese Dog

        고두민,Taejin Lee,Tae-Wang Kim,So Young Youm,신상경,안병우 충북대학교 동물의학연구소 2012 Journal of Biomedical and Translational Research Vol.13 No.1

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is defined as a gradual, interstitial fibrous disease of the lung parenchyma. PF causes collapse of lung lobe which can lead to lung lobe torsion of another side. A 14-year-old male Pekinese dog was referred to Veterinery Medical Center, Chungbuk National University. The chief complaint was acute dyspnea. The dog had a history of chronic cough which lasted for 18 month and cough was deteriorated recently. Tachypnea was noted on physical examination. As a result of thoracic radiographs, ultrasonography and computed tomography, lung lobe torsion and collapse were diagnosed. A postmortem examination revealed lung lobe torsion of left cranial lobe and carnification of right cranial lobe. Histologically, severe and diffuse interstitial fibrosis with distortion of alveolar architecture and severe congestion and/or hemorrhage were noted in right cranial lobe and left cranial lobe, respectively. Although the cause of pulmonary fibrosis was undetermined, this case showed a typical lung lobe torsion caused by pulmonary fibrosis.

Pathologic Features of a Systemic Dirofilariasis in a Dog

이태진,고두민,염소영,신상경,장동우,안병우 충북대학교 동물의학연구소 2011 Journal of Biomedical and Translational Research Vol.12 No.1

Canine heartworm disease typically is manifested by the presence of heartworms in the pulmonary artery and, to a lesser degree, the right ventricle. Systemic arterial dirofilariasis is an unusual manifestation of heartworm disease of dogs that results from aberrant migration of Dirofilaria immitis into the peripheral arterial circulation. A 3-year-old Jindo dog was referred to Veterinary Medical Center because of hindlimb lameness, paresthesia of hindlimbs and interdigital ischemic necrosis. Angiography and ultrasonography diagnosed as heartworm infestation. In necropsy, entangled heartworms were present throughout the body including lungs, kidney, small intestinal lumens and arteries in addition to the right ventricle and pulmonary artery. Histologically, lung showed adult heart worms in vessels, organized thrombotic vessels, and interstitial pneumonia featured by typeⅡ pneumocyte hyperplasia, thickened alveolar wall and compressed alveolar spaces. Chronic parenchymal lesions such as focal or diffuse necrosis, fibrosis and dystrophic calcification were remarkable in liver and kidney. The present case showed a typical canine systemic heartworm diasease caused by aberrant migration of Dirofilaria immitis.

Bilateral Triamcinolone Induced Subconjunctival Granuloma in the Treatment of Scleritis Accompanied by Scleral Ectasia in a Dog

        강선미,고두민,김대용,서강문 한국임상수의학회 2018 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.35 No.4

A 6-year-old spayed female American Cocker Spaniel presented with episcleritis in the right and then theleft eye (OS) at eight month interval. Repeated intralesional triamcinolone acetonide was administered subconjunctivallyto both eyes (OU). During this period, scleral ectasia was revealed on ocular funduscopy OS and then confirmedon ultrasonography and computed tomography. A year later, conjunctival hyperemia occurred around remnanttriamcinolone particles and was treated by resection of these particles in the OU. A recurrence of episcleritis, whichdid not regress, required repeated triamcinolone subconjunctival injections four months later in the OU. Four monthsafter these injections OU, the dog was presented with bilateral conjunctival mass, which had developed over the previousmonth. The round-shaped masses with diameters of 1 cm were surgically resected from exposed scleral ectasia lesionof thin and bulging scleral surface in the OU. The cross-section of both masses showed a white-colored accumulationat the center and triamcinolone induced granulomas enclosing necrotic tissue were confirmed by impression cytologyand histopathological examination.

Dacryocystectomy for Chronic Dacryocystitis in a Beagle Dog

        정영석,이송희,김수안,우상호,고두민,서강문,강선미 한국임상수의학회 2021 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.38 No.3

A 3-year-old spayed female beagle dog was presented with epiphora, severe hemorrhagic and purulent ocular discharge in the right eye (OD). A reflux of the discharge through the other canaliculi, associated with signs of chronic inflammation, was observed on cytology. Dacryocystorhinography revealed retention of contrast media ventral to the lower punctum, indicating complete obstruction and the potential presence of radiolucent foreign body. Ocular discharge subsided after the first treatment, including flushing of the nasolacrimal duct and application of topical antibiotics and corticosteroids, but clinical symptoms of the dacryocystitis waxed and waned thereafter. Surgical treatment was delayed for 8 months due to Dirofilaria immitis infection, and topical treatment and monthly flushing were maintained. On the day of operation, a foreign body was released through the fistula, while flushing for disinfection under general anesthesia, just before the surgery. Dacryocystectomy was performed to remove necrotic tissue and residual foreign body around the nasolacrimal cyst. Upon histopathologic findings, the removed foreign body was considered to be a plant, and the nasolacrimal cyst was comprised of chronic active ulcerative inflammation and necrotic tissues. At the 1-week recheck, improvement of epiphora and ocular discharge and healing of the surgical site was noted. In conclusion, nasolacrimal duct foreign body can be considered in recurrent dacryocystitis, despite nasolacrimal flushing and topical medication. In this study, dacryocystectomy was curative without recurrence of dacryocystitis or epiphora.
