Spatial and temporal variations of Yellow Dust source area and desertification in dryland regions of the Northeast Asia were evaluated based on extensive literature review on field and modeling evidences. In overall, Yellow Dust occurrence decreased since 1960s but it increased again in Mongolia and northeastern China after 2000s, the latter of which indicates eastward encroachment of major Yellow Dust source area for the last decade. The phenomena seem to coincide well with recent desertification of Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, and Manchuria. Vegetation cover is evaluated as an important biophysical variable for controlling both dust occurrence and desertification, which considerably depends on both precipitation and livestock pastoralism. Hence, dryland sustainability should consider dynamic balancing between vegetation productivity and livestock utilization under varying climate and socio-economic situations, which requires socio-ecological perspective on sustainable dryland management.
CP Violation in Neutrino Oscillation and Leptogenesis

We examine the connection between CP violation in neutrino oscillations and leptogenesis in the framework with two heavy Majorana neutrinos and three light neutrinos. We show how the heavy Majorana phase contributes to Jarlskog determinant J as well as neutrinoless double decay by identifying a low- energy CP-violating phase which signals the CP-violating phase for leptogenesis. We nd that there is a direct relation between lepton number asymmetry and J for some specic cases of the Dirac neutrino-mass terms. For the most general case of the framework, we discuss how the phases separately aect J, and also present some cases in which the correlation is lost, even in the presence of the phases.

MODIS 엽면적지수 및 일차생산성 영상의 구름 영향 오차 분석 : 우리나라 몬순기후의 영향

MODIS (Moderate Resolution Image Spectrometer) is a core satellite sensor boarded on Terra andAqua satelite of NASA Earth Observing System since 1999 and 2001, respectively. MODIS LAI, FPAR, and GPP provide useful means to monitor plant phenology and material cycles in terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, LAI, FPAR, and GPP in Korea were evaluated and errors aso ciated with cloud contamination on MODIS pixels were eliminated for years 2001~2003. Three-year means of cloud-corrected annual GP were 1836, 1369, and 1460 g C m-2y-1for evergreen needleleaf forest, deciduous broadleaf forest, and mixed forest, respectively. The cloud-originated errors were 8.5%, 13.1%, and 8.4% for FPAR, LAI, and GPP, respectively. Summertime errors from June to September explained by 78% of the annual accumulative errors in GPP. This study indicates that cloud-originated errors should be mitigated for practical use of MODIS vegetation products to monitor seasonal and annual changes in plant phenology and vegetation production in Korea. 미국항공우주국은 지구 관측 시스템(EOS) 프로그램의 일환으로 1999년에 Terra를 2001년에 Aqua 인공위성을 발사하였다. MODIS는 EOS의 핵심 원격 탐사 센서로서 육상 생태계의 식물계절학과 물질 순환 모니터링을 위한 8일 단위의 엽면적지수(LAI), 유효 광합성 광량 중 식생에 흡수된 비율(FPAR), 총 일 차 생산성(GPP) 영상을 제공하고 있다. 본 연구에서 우리나라를 대상으로 식생형에 따른 2001~2003년 간의 MODIS LAI, FPAR, GPP를 분석하였으며, 구름 영향에 의한 각 영상의 오차를 평가하였다. 분석 결과 연간 GPP는 침엽수림 1,836, 활엽수 림 1,369, 혼효림 1,460 g C m-2 y-1 로 나타났으며, 각 변수에서 구름에 의해 야기된 오차는 FPAR 8.5, LAI 13.1, GPP 8.4%에 달하는 것으로 분석되었다. 특히 GPP의 경우 6월에서 9월까지의 오차가 연간 오차의 78%를 설명하는 것으로 나타나, 몬순기후가 MODIS 영상의 오차에 큰 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 본연구는 향후 MODIS 식생 관련 영상들이 우리나라의 식물계절학과 일차 생산성 모니터링에 유용하게 사용될 수 있으며, 이들 영상을 사용하기에 앞서 구름 영향 오차를 감쇄하는 영상의 전처리 과정을 수행할 필요가 있음을 보여주었다.

The Silica gel with the density of 0.2g/cm3 and porosity of 90% was synthesized. The silica wet gel was dried and heat-treated under the ambient pressure after modification of the wet gel surface by TMCS. Specific surface area total pore volume and mean pore radius of dried gel were all increased with increasing heat treatment temperature and confirmed about 1400m2/g, 4.5cc/g and 8 nm respectively after heat treatment above 25$0^{\circ}C$. But the pore size distribution of dried gel was in the range of 1-100nm and was almost indepen-dent of temperature. As the result of external shape pore characteristics and microstructure of gel using SEM similar properties were observed between the silica gel synthesized in this study and the silica aerogel through the super critical drying.
공유된 멀티캐스트 트리에서 센터 위치 결정을 위한 새 알고리즘

Multicast routing algorithms such PIM, CBT, BGMP use shared multicast routing trees and the location of the multicast tree has great impact on the packet delay. In this pater we propose three new center location algorithms and analyze their performance through simulation studies. these three algorithms consider as candidates for the center not only multicast group members but also a few non-members nodes. To select these non-member nodes, we first find all the shortest paths among every couple of members and consider either nodes which are most frequently visited during the process of finding shortest paths or nodes which lie at the center of a shortest path and are most frequently visited during the same process. There the proposed algorithms are able to find the better center than not only algorithms which consider only member nodes but also other algorithms which consider selected non-member nodes in addition ot member nodes. The proposed algorithms either incur too much overhead nor depend upon unicasting algorithms.
Minimal Modification of Tri-bimaximal Neutrino Mixing and Leptonic CP Violation

We confront possible forms of the minimal modification of the tri-bimaximal (TBM) neutrino mixing matrix proposed by Kang and Kim (Phys. Rev. D 90, 077301 (2014)) with the latest global fit to neutrino data. One form among them is singled out by the current experimental results at 1 confidence level (C.L.) The minimal modification of the TBM mixing matrix makes possible the prediction of Dirac-type CP phase in the Pontecorbo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata neutrino mixing matrix in terms of two neutrino mixing angles. By carrying out a numerical analysis based on the latest experimental results for neutrino mixing angles, we are able to present new results on the prediction of the Dirac-type CP phase. We also compare our results on CP violation with those from the current global fit at 1 C.L.
