Bilateral Congenital Deafness in a White Bull Terrier; Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response Findings
강병택,이소영,정동인,김형중,우응제,박희명 한국임상수의학회 2008 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.25 No.6
A 2-month-old, intact female white Bull Terrier presented because of suspected deafness. The coat color was predominantly white and the iris color, of both eyes, was brown. The dog did not respond to the owner’s voice when the sound stimuli were presented outside of the visual field; however, the dog responded to visual gestures. The other physical, neurological, otoscopic, radiographic, and blood examinations were unremarkable. To assess the apparent deafness, brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAER) were recorded and analyzed in the dog with suspected deafness as well as a normal littermate. The response in the normal littermate consisted of a series of five wave peaks (I-V) with decreased amplitude and prolonged latency as the stimulus intensity decreased. The BAER from the dog suspected of deafness appeared as a flat line and did not reveal identifiable peaks that corresponded to those found in the normal littermate. Thus, congenital, sensorineural and bilateral deafness was confirmed by the BAER.
Cutaneous Epitheliotropic T-Cell Lymphoma in a Dog: Clinical Responses to Lomustine and Gemcitabine
강병택,김대영,강지훈,장동우,정동인,조규완,양만표 한국임상수의학회 2013 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.30 No.4
A 5-year-old, spayed female Maltese dog presented with generalized multifocal pruritic erythema and alopecia for a month. Initial skin biopsy suggested cutaneious histiocytosis. The dog had been treated with the immunosuppressive therapy for a month, but multifocal erythematous patches and plaques were newly observed. Direct imprint smear of cutaneous lesions suggested a lymphoma and rebiopsy was performed. Microscopic examination demonstrated a round cell tumor with epitheliotrophism to the epidermis and adnexal structures. The neoplastic round cells were strongly positive for CD3 yet negative for CD79a, indicting the tumor was cutaneous epitheliotropic Tcell lymphoma. After 2 cycles of oral administration of lomustine (70 mg/m2, once every 2-3 weeks), only partial response was observed. Alternative chemotherapy with gemcitabine (500 mg/m2, 30-minute IV infusion, once every week) was initiated. A total 3 cycles of gemcitabine failed to control the progression of disease, and the dog was euthanized on Day 69 after the 1st lomustine treatment.

강병택,김준희,구윤회,윤태식,채연,이도희,차시진,김지윤,김학현,양만표 충북대학교 동물의학연구소 2022 Journal of Biomedical and Translational Research Vol.23 No.4
This study aimed to identify prognostic factors and describe the treatment outcomes of multidrug therapy in dogs with meningoencephalomyelitis of unknown etiology (MUE). A total of 23 dogs diagnosed with MUE were treated with prednisolone in combination with cyclosporine, cytosine arabinoside (CA), leflunomide, and mycophenolate mofetil. Based on the survival time, these dogs were divided into two groups: group A (n = 10), surviving for < 100 days, and group B (n = 13), surviving for > 100 days. Signalment, seizure activity, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis results, and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings were reviewed. Survival studies were conducted to investigate the association of each prognostic factor and treatment with the clinical outcome. There were no significant differences in age, sex, body weight, occurrence of seizures, cell number and protein concentration in the CSF, or location of lesions between groups A and B. Abnormal MR features were more frequently observed in group A than in group B. It was identified that the longest median survival time was administration of multi-drug therapy including CA. In conclusion, abnormal MR features were associated with poor prognosis in dogs with MUE and CA-based multi-drug therapy could be considered the most effective treatment of MUE.
JBIG2 부호화에서의 한글의 효율적 처리에 관한 연구
강병택,김현민,고형화 한국통신학회 2000 韓國通信學會論文誌 Vol.25 No.6
In this paper, we propose a method to improve JBIG2 compression ratio which can be applied to Hangul text. Hangul character is composed of a few symbols which is called JASO, which needs inevitable increase of position information to be transmitted. To reduce this disadvantage, we have proposed an algorithm that generate aggregated symbol in combination of JASO symbols. Proposed algorithm shows better performance in Huffman coding than in arithmetic coding. In lossless coding, proposed algorithm showed 4.5∼16.7(%) improvement for Huffman coding and 2.9∼10.4(%) improvement for arithmetic coding. In lossy coding, proposed algorithm showed 3.7∼17.0(%) improvement for Huffman coding and 2.1∼10.5(%) improvement for arithmetic coding.

강병택,강지훈,정동인,양만표,이지혜,서정향,장동우 충북대학교 동물의학연구소 2013 Journal of Biomedical and Translational Research Vol.14 No.3
A-7-month-old, intact male Shih-Tzu dog was referred with facial dermatitis and stifle pain with 7 days duration. Erythema, hemorrhage, and crusted nodular lesions of the face, swollen eyelids, and otitis externa were observed. A painful response was noted on palpation of the right stifle joint. Impression smears and skin biopsies revealed pyogranulomatous inflammation consistent with canine juvenile cellulitis (CJC). Skin lesions and pain were greatly improved following immunosuppressive corticosteroid therapy. This report firstly describes clinical and histopathological findings as well as treatment responses of CJC in a 7-month-old, domestic dog.

A 3-year-old, spayed female Shih-tzu dog was presented due to acute vomiting, diarrhea, and generalized weakness. The dog had generalized weakness, increased respiratory rate, and respiratory muscle effort. Neurologic examination revealed appendicular muscular weakness and decreased in tone of the anal sphincter. Megaesophagus was confirmed by radiographic examinations. Other than type 2 fiber atrophy, no specific abnormalities were identified in histopathologic examinations of muscle biopsies from the left pelvic limb. Serum acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody titer was increased (0.78 nmol/L; reference range, less than 0.6 nmol/L), confirming a diagnosis of acute fulminating myasthenia gravis. The dog dramatically responded to pyridostigmine bromide and had marked improvement in muscle strength, megaesophagus, and respiratory function. The dog has been successfully managed for 7 months after initial treatment.

A retrospective study of 94 hypercalcemic dogs was performed to find out most comon causes that leadto hypercalcemia through investigating dogs refered to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Konkuk University from2002 to 2004. During the study period, hypercalcemia was found in 94 dogs of 19 breeds, and they were evaluatedstudy period. For general signalments, there were no significant diferences between case and control group with theexception of age distribution. Shih-tzu (17.02%) and Yorkshire terrier (26.60%) was the most common breed in caseand control group, respectively. The most common diseases associated with hypercalcemia were chronic renal failure(18.09%), acute renal failure (14.89%), and renal calculi (6.38%). Malignant neoplasia (lymphoma, hemangiosarcoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, mamary gland tumor, and multiple myeloma) and endocrinopathies (hyperad-renocorticism, hyperthyroidism, hypoadrenocorticism, and hypothyroidism) occupiedreport is a first retrospective study of hypercalcemic dogs in South Korea.

Trans-10, cis-12-conjugated linoleic acid (t10c12-CLA) has been shown to participate in the regulation of anti-inflammatory effects. The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of t10c12-CLA on reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) production and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) activation in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and to determine whether these effects were associated with change of intracellular calcium ion (Ca2+). ROS production was increased in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, and this effect was suppressed by 1,2-bis-(o-aminophenoxy) ethane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid-acetoxymethyl ester (BAPTA/AM), a calcium chelator. t10c12-CLA suppressed ROS production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, which was further more decreased by treatment with BAPTA/AM. These indicated that t10c12-CLA decreases Ca2+-dependent ROS production in LPSstimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Similarly, NF-κB p65 DNA binding activity and NO production were decreased by treatment with either t10c12-CLA, BAPTA/AM, or t10c12-CLA and BAPTA/AM combination. However, there were no differences between t10c12-CLA and BAPTA/AM treatment in NO production of LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. These data indicate that t10c12-CLA inhibits the increases in ROS and NO production and the NF-κB activation in LPS-stimulated condition. These results suggested that CLA exerts potent anti-inflammatory effects by suppression of LPS-induced ROS and NO production, and NF-κB activationn via Ca2+-dependent pathway.
Ovarian Papillary Adenocarcinoma in a Yorkshire Terrier Dog
조수경,강병택,박철헌,정동인,박희명 한국임상수의학회 2007 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.24 No.2
A 10-year-old intact female Yorkshire terrier dog was referred for evaluation of marked abdominal distension andhemorrhagic effusion. Abdominal radiography and ultrasonography demonstrated abdominal effusion and intraabdominal maswith anechoic cystic components. On ascites cytology, neoplastic epithelial cells with vacuolated cytoplasm and prominentnucleoli were identified. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed the wel-defined, heterogeneous, and large mass filedwas composed of papillary structures lined by neoplastic epithelial cels. The dog was definitively diagnosed as malignantovarian adenocarcinoma with papilary patern based on clinical and histopathological findings.
