슬로베니아에서 한국학 교육과 연구가 이루어지는 곳은 류블랴나대학교 아시아학과가 유일무이하다. 류블랴나대학교는 1919년에 개교한 슬로베니아 최고이자 최대의 교육기관으로 1995년 이 대학에 아시아학과(당시 아시아아프리카학과)가 설립되었다. 아시아학과에 2003년 한국어 강좌가 생긴 뒤, 볼료냐 프로세스(Bologna Process)에 따른 유럽 지역 교육 개편과 함께 한국학 전공의 전신인 한국학 모듈이 생겼다. 그후, 아시아학과 교강사들의 협력과 한국학중앙연구원, 국제교류재단, 대한민국 대사관 등 한국정부기관의 도움과 한국 및 슬로베니아 기업의 지원으로 슬로베니아의 한국학이 꾸준히 발전해왔다. 2012년 아시아학과에서 한국학중앙연구원이 지원하는 `씨앗형 사업`을 시작하면서 본격적으로 한국학이 태동할 수 있었고, 2013년 4월 한국문학, 한국문화 등 어학 이외의 강좌가 개설되면서 한국학 전공의 모양새를 갖추기 시작했다. 2015년에 슬로베니아 최초로 한국학 (복수)전공이 개설되었고, 2018년 대학원 개설 및 자체교재 개발을 목표로 하고 있다. 본고에서는 류블랴나대학교 아시아학과의 한국학 전공을 중심으로 슬로베니아 한국학의 과거와 현재를 돌아보고 이를 바탕으로 향후 전망, 더 나아가 이 지역 해외 한국학의 발전 가능성을 가늠하고자 한다. The University of Ljubljana`s Department of Asian Studies is the only place that currently offers Korean Studies education and research in Slovenia. The University of Ljubljana is the best educational institution in Slovenia. The Department of Asian Studies was founded in 1995. After it opened a Korean language course in 2003, it launched a Korean Studies course as part of the educational restructuring based on the Bologna Process in Europe, as a forerunner to a Korean Studies major. Since then, Korean Studies in Slovenia have steadily developed with the cooperation of professors and the help of the Academy of Korean Studies and the Korean Foundation. Korean Studies began with a "Seed Project" supported by the AKS in 2012, and were groomed to be turned into a real Korean Studies major with the introduction of modules in Korean Literature, Korean Culture, and so on in addition to the Korean language course in 2013. Korean Studies as a major was launched and opened to applications in 2015. Currently, the faculty aims to establish an MA program and to develop its own textbook. In this paper, I look at the past and present status of Korean Studies as a major at the Department of Asian Studies of the University of Ljubljana, and estimate the possibility of development of Korean Studies in this region hereafter.

This essay explores the educational utility of Korean literature for European foreign students. A formerly prevalent teaching methodology in Korean studies is 'First-Korean language, Second-Korean literature'. It means that only after mastering the Korean language, can Korean literature be studied. But in this article, we introduce a new methodology ‘First-Korean literature, Second-Korean Language’. Many works of Korean literature have recently been translated from Korean to European languages and some Korean writers have gained international reputations. Students can now study Korean literature by reading modern Korean short stories in English and in many other European languages. By following this approach, students who read Korean works could become interested in the Korean language. And it becomes very easy to understand Korean culture. As part of the effort to revitalize humanities education, encouraging the reading of literary works is absolutely viable. (The University of Ljubljana)
