Worldwide, the issue of stem cell research has recently bursted in the scientific scene, because stem cells seem to offer great promise for new ways of treating disease. The purpose of this study is to explore current status of stem cell research, published in Korean literature. Using web search(KoreaMed*: www.koreamed.org), we reviewed 190 articles which had been published in Korean literatures from January 2007 to May 2009. Articles were classified in terms of subject, stem cells types, methodology, author’s specialty and organization, and journal name. The articles published in Korean literature were diverse, meaningful and updated. Furthermore, 8 articles regarding clinical trial for patients were cited in English literature. We were able to overview a recent trend in the stem cell research, published in Korean literature.
Al₂O₃-40% iO₂ 용사층의 연구 (Ⅱ) : 마멸기구 모델링 modelling of wear mechanism
김우섭,오명석,채영훈 영남이공대학 1998 論文集 Vol.27 No.-
The wear behaviors of Al₂O₃-40%TiO₂ deposited on Al-alloy of casting(ASTM A356) by plasma spray against SiC ball have been investigated experimentally. Friction and wear tests are carried out at room temperature. The thickness of Al₂O₃-40%TiO₂ coatings indicated the existence of the optimal coating thickness. The columnar grain of coating will be fractured to achieve the critical stress. It is suggested that the mismatch of thermal expansion of substrate and coating play an important role in wear performance. Tensile and compressive of coating under thermo-mechanical stress may be occurred by the mismatch between thermal expansion of substrate and coating. This crack propagation above interface is observed in SEM.

Objective: To evaluate the correlation between the variables of sensory nerve conduction study of diabetic polyneuropathy patients and the factors that explain variations of multivariate data of sensory nerve conduction study. Method: Forty four early diabetic polyneuropathy patients and forty normal control people were included in our study. Early polyneuropathy patients were diagnosed by nerve conduction study. Their sensory nerve conduction meaurement variables were compared with normal control people in terms of correlation between amplitude and latency, and factors that were independent. Results: Age controlled partial correlations between amplitude and latency suggested that early diabetic polyneuro- pathy patients had more association between amplitude and latency than normal control people. Cannonical correlation also reinforced the above suggestion. Factor analysis revealed degenerative factor, demyelination factor, axonopathy factors that were independent in normal control people and degenerative factors, upper extremity demyelination factor, lower extremity functional factors in the dibetic polyneuropathy patients. Conclusion: The latency of sensory nerve conduction study was an important variable in assessing diabetic polyneuropathy patients.

The augmentation rhinoplasty using silicone implant is one of the most popular cosmetic procedure in Asians. But complications such as deviation and extrusion are often noted. For prevention of these problems, we discussed and assessed the effectiveness of augmentation rhinoplasty through unilateral infracartilaginous incision and fixation of the silicone to the septal cartilage. Among 121 patients who underwent closed rhinoplasty using anchoring suture in silicone fixation and covering the silicone tip with medial border of lateral crus in both alar cartilage by intercrural suture, we analyzed 47 patients. No other procedures were used. The average follow-up period was 11 months. This technique showed good results without deviation or extrusion of silicone implants. In addition, this procedure yields good nasal tip projections. Herein, this treatment will be a future promising treatment modality for reducing complications with high level of patient satisfaction

The aim of this study is to establish anatomical dimension of the lip in young population in Korean, using specially designed soft ware with photographic image. We measure 13 anatomical dimensions of lips in 2,229 young people. (917 male, 1312 female, Aged from 18-33 years. Average age 19.7).Statistical analysis of these measurements of large population could offer useful information in facial plastic surgery. The mean measurements are as follows1. Lengths (male/female)Widths of philtrum: 1.11±0.19cm/1.02±0.21cm Heights of philtrum: 1.6±0.24cm/1.47±0.21cmHeights of cupid bow: 0.88±0.16cm/0.83±0.16cmHeight of upper vermilion: 0.74±0.16cm/0.70±0.15cmHeight of lower vermilion: 1.08±0.17cm/1.02±0.15cmHeight of upper lip(Rt.): 1.24±0.2cm/1.23±0.2cmHeight of upper lip(Lt.): 1.24±0.2cm/1.17±0.19cmHalf horizontal length of lip: 2.2±0.26cm/2.11±0.2cmHorizontal length of lip: 4.41±0.4cm/4.25±0.36cmHeight of lower face: 7.1±0.58cm/6.52±0.6cm2. AnglesNasolabial angle: 97.77±11.97°/95.5±11.34°Mentolabial angle: 133.88±14.65°/129.27±13.67°Angle of Cupid's bow: 111.65±13.99°/116.75±16.2°Previous reported photogrammetric measurements was difficult to implement to surgical practice. Because these were printed photographies of the same size. Therefore, in this study, we can measure a lot of objects and items more conveniently and correctly by using proportional program on computer after taking a digital photograph. Consequently, proportional measurements with photogrammetry of lip could be useful and corrective substitute for anthropometrical measuring. These data could be useful reference for preoperative consultation, surgical planning and learning anatomical measurement of lips and adjacent structures.

Previous sucessful results of neocartilage formation using tissue engineering technique in immunocompromised nude mouse xenograft model were reported. For clinical application, autogenous cell is preferrable to allogenic or xenogenic cell for circumvention of immune rejection. This study evaluates the feasibility of producing a engineered cartilage using autogenous chondrocytes. Chondrocytes were isolated from the auricular catilage of New Zealand White rabbit and seeded onto PGA polymer coated with polylactic acid in round pattern(diameter 0.7 cm, thickness 0.1 cm) at a concentration $7{\times}10^7$ chondrocytes per $cm^3$. Each Autogenous Cell-polymer constructs were implanted subcutaneously into the left side of dorsum of twelve Rabbits. Polymer templates not containg cells were implanted into the right side as a control. Fifteen rabbits were sacrificed at the following intervals: 5 rabbits at nine weeks, 7 rabbits at twelve weeksNew autogenous cartilage formation which retained the approximate dimensions of origianl round polymer template in 11 of 12 cell seeded implants. Histological examination using hematoxyline and eosin stain revealed vast majority of implants developed into mature cartilage. This study opens up the possibility of autologus cell transplant to construct autogenous cartilge.
