Implementation of Single-Wire Communication Protocol for 3D IC Thermal Management Systems using a Thin Film Thermoelectric Cooler

We propose and implement a single-wire communication protocol for thermal management systems using thin film thermoelectric modules for 3D IC cooling. The proposed single-wire communication protocol connects the temperature sensors, located near hot spots, to measure the local temperature of the chip. A unique ID number identifying the location of each hot spot is assigned to each temperature sensor. The prototype chip was fabricated by a 0.13μm CMOS MPW process, and the operation of the chip is verified.

To analyze scientifically the polyprescription principle of Daekumeumja(對金飮子), which has been used for alcoholic damage, and Pyungwesan(平胃散), which has been used for indigestion, the transforming rate of hesperidin of these polyprescriptions to hesperetin was investigated. The transforming rate of the former was higher 3 times than that of the latter. The transforming rate of hesperidin of Aurantii nobilis Pericarpium was inhibited by Magnoliae Cortex, but was activated by Glycyrrhizae Radix. The activity of trypsin was inhibited by Glycyrrhizae Radix and Daekumeuja. However, Aurantii nobilis Pericarpium, Atractylodis Rhizoma, Magnoliae Cortex and Pyungwesan did not inhibited it. When human intestinal microflora were cultured with the media containing Daekumeumja, Pyungwesan and herbal medicines consisting of them, Aurantii nobilis Pericarpium and Magnoliae Cortex inhibited the activity of ${\beta}$-glucosidase. These results suggests that the therapeutic effect of Daekumeumja may be better than that of Pyungwesan on alcoholic damage and the therapeutic effect of Pyungwesan may be better than that of Daekumeumja on indigestion, although these prescriptions are consisted of the same herbal medicines.

Background/Amins: Juxtapapillary duodenal diverticuli are often associated with biliary stones. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of juxtapapillary duodenal diverticuli in biliary stones. Methods: Three hundred and thirteen patients underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography were studied prospectively. Results: Seventy-five patients had juxtapapillary duodennl diverticuli(24%). The occurrence of diver- ticuli increased with age and more commomly in female patients. The prevalence of diver- ticulii was higher in patients with commom bile duct stones(35.6% vs 17.6%; P 0.002) and gallbladder stones(33.3% vs 17.6%; P=0,001) than in patients without biliary stones (17.6%). Conclusions: We conclude that biliary stones are associated with juxtapapillary diverticuli.

The present study tested whether negative attibutional style was specific to depression. Subjects were seperated into depressive and anxious groups and examined on attributional style. Results suggested that negative attributional style is relatively specific to depressive affect. Discussion centered on future cognitive specificity studies of depression and anxiety.

Background/Aims: Various gastric and duodenal lesions with gastrofiberscopy were observed in patients with obstructive biliary disease. Methods: A clinical analysis of the endoscopic findings was carried out on 88 patients with obstructive biliary disease, from February 1994 to January 1998, in the department of Internal Medicine, Chungnam National University Hospital. Results: 1) In the 88 patients, sex distribution showed predominance in the males (47/41) and most of the cases involved those in their 60's. 2) The obstructive biliary diseases were included, common bile duct stones (53.4%), common bile duct cancer (18.2%), pancreatic cancer (18.2%), Klatskin tumor (4.5%) and common hepatic duct cancer (3.4%). 3) The gastroduodenal lesions involved in the obstructive biliary diseases were, erosive gastritis (22.7%), duodenal ulcer (8.0%), gastric ulcer (5.7%), and acute duodenitis (3.4%) in orders. Conclusions: Significant upper gastrointestinal lesions were found in obstructive biliary disease.

한약과 양약의 약물상호작용에 관한 연구(제1보) : Nicardipine과 청혈단의 상호작용 Effects of CHUNGHYULDAN on the Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodydnamics of Nicardipine in Rats

The influence of single and repeated oral pretreatment of CHUNG-HYUL-DAN(CHD). a widely used Korean traditional herbal medicines prescribed for hypertension and hyperlipidemia, on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of a calcium channel blocker, nicardipine after oral administration of nicardipine was investigated in rats. The single pretreatment of CHD significantly increased area under the plasma concentration-time curve(AUC_(0-8h), but did not influence the time to reach the maximum peak plasma concentration(T_(max)), the maximum peak plasma concentration(C_(max)), terminal elimination half-life(t_(1/2) or the elimination rate constant(λ) for nicardipine. And, C_(max) and AUC_(0-8h) for nicardipine were significantly increased by with 1-week repeated pretreatment with CHD, but the other parameters were not significantly different from those of control. Also, the extent of the lowering effect of nicardipine on blood pressure in rats was significantly increased after oral administration of nicardipine with single and repeated oral pretreatment with CHD. These results indicated that single and 1-week repeated oral pretreatment with CHD should inhibit the metabolism of nicardipine in rats.

한방처방구성원리의 과학적 해석연구(Ⅱ) : 상한론 처방의 통계적 분석연구 Statistical Analysis of Sang-Han Prescriptions

This study was made to objectify the principle of oriental medical prescriptions so that we could obtain the principle and the formulation of them. For that purpose, we analysed the formula and rule of 113 prescriptions recorded in 「ShanghanLun」, which have a few of components, and re widely used in clinical from ancient times to these days. At first we classified those prescriptions by their effect. Then we re-classified the herbs of the effect groups into four natures(cold, hot, warm and cool) and five kinds of flavors(wour, bitter, sweet, acrid and salty). And we classified the herbs into three grades -superior, medium, and inferior which were used in Shen Nong's Herbal Classic. By these means, we statistically evaluated the prescriptions recorded in 「ShanghanLun」based on the Four Regular Components(Monarch, Minister, Assistance and Laborer) According to the frequecy of the herbs used on the 108 prescriptions recorded in 「ShanghanLun」there are many concidences with the herbs used in these days. According to the effects, formulation of prescriptions and the effects have very colse relationship, and it might be related with the diseases on those days. The formulation of the prescriptions was carefully made by the for natures and five kinds of flavors. On the study of the three grades of Shen Nong's Herbal classic the superior and medium herbs mostly used, and the inferior herbs were very seldom used.

최근 5년간 간경변의 원인과 합병증에 관한 고찰

Background/Aims: The causes and complications of liver cirrhosis are varied and increasing prevalence of alcoholic liver disease has been suspected. We tried to categorize the causes and complications of liver cirrhosis. Methods: We investigated the 159 patients who are diagnosed as liver cirrhosis at Chungnam National University Hospital during the recent 5 years. Results: 1) HBV infection was the most common cause of liver cirrhosis (48.1%), alcohol was next (42.9%). 2) Alcoholic liver cirrhosis was the most common cause in male (54.2%), postnecrotic cirrhosis (HBV) was the most common cause in female (66.7%). The difference was considered to come from the fact that male drinks more, constantly or habitually. 3) Alcohol was the most common cause of liver cirrhosis above the fifth decade of age and HBV is under 40 yeats of age. 4) The complications of liver cirrhosis are variceal bleeding, most common, splenomegaly and ascites in order. Hepatocellular carcinoma occumd also especially in HBV induced liver cirrhosis. Conclusion: Alcoholic liver disease is a common cause of liver cirrhosis. (Korean J Hepatol 1997;6:202 209)

대인불안이 높은 사람들의 인지적 특성 연구

Recently many studies suggested that inappropriate cognitions are antecedents of social anxiey. The current study investigated the automatic thoughts of socially anxious individuals. The results suggested that socially anxious students have more negative automatic thoughts and less positive automatic thoughts than nonanxious students. Nonanxious subjects had more positive automatic thoughts than negative automatic thoughts, while socially anxious subjects; scores of positive automatic thoughts and negative automatic thoughts were not different. Finally, the implications of the present results for social anxiety were discussed.
