        In order to determine the difference of seedling vigor in heterotrophic phase of seed by different size of radish seeds, that is, large, medium and small, growth rate and emergence percent were measured using the rolled filter paper method and sand method, respectively. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1) Emergence percent obtained from germination test using sand method was higher in larger seeds, though there was no statiastical significance among three classes of seed size. 2) The elongation of hypocotyl and root, in seven days after seeding, was not markedly effected by different size of seeds, but the larger seeds promoted the elongation of cotyledon in comparison with the smaller seeds. 3) Each fresh weight of cotyledon, hypocotyl and root and their total fresh weight, and each dry weight of hypocotyl and root increased in the larger seeds and when the days after seeding were passed away. And dry weight of cotyledon was also higher in larger seeds but it was decreased gradually when the days after seeding were passed away. 4) From the above results, it is concluded that the larger seeds make the higher emergence percent and growth rate in heterotrophic phase of seeds.

        To know the utilization of F₁ hybrid in red pepper, comparative investigations on some characters between hybrid and their parent were made. The F₁hybrids generally showed heterosis in flowering time, fruit size, early yield and total yield.

      • 고추 一果重의 構成要素에 對한 遺傳

        고추 育種의 基礎資料를 얻고자 342 ×김장고추, 馬山×Hungarian wax 그리고 馬山×濟州 等 3組合의 親, F_(1), F_(2) 그리고 BCF_(1), 世代에 對해 赤熟된 果實을 收穫하여 1生ㆍ乾果重을 構成하는 形質들의 雜種强勢, 遺傳成分 및 相關關係를 調査한 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 平均 Heterosis는 거의 모든 形質에서 正의 값을 나타내었고 平均 Heterobeltiosis는 342×김장고추組合을 除外하고는 거의 負의 값을 나타내었다. 또한 近交弱勢도 正의 값을 보여 F_(2)에서의 무게감소가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 形質發現에는 各 組合의 形質에 따라 重複的 或은 補足的으로 上位性이 作用하였으며 F_(2)에서 果重과 果肉重은 廣義 및 狹義의 遺傳力이 높았으며 其也形質은 全般的으로 낮았다. 各 果重構成要素間의 形質相關은 生ㆍ乾果重에서 모두 正의 有意한 相關을 보였다. Six genetic populations, viz, P_(1), P_(2), F_(1), F_(2), B_(1), and B_(2) of three crosses involving five varieties (342 × Kimjanggochu, Masan × Hungarian was, and Masan × Jeju) were used for estimating heterosis, heterobeltiosis, inbreeding depression, genetic components, heritability and correlations for fresh and dry anatomical components of red pepper. The results obtained were summarized as follows. Heterosis was positive in most characters of three crosses and heterobeltiosis was negative except in cross 342 × Kimjanggochu. Inbreeding depression was positive, showing decrease of weight in F_(2) generation. Duplicate and complimentary type of epistasis were concerned with the expression of characters, and broad and narrow sense heritabilities of fruit weight and pericarp weight were fairly high and stem weight, placenta weight and seed weight were low. Correlations among the anatomical components were positively significant in fresh and dry weights.
