"The Act on Medication Treatment of Sexual Impulse of Sex Offenders" known as chemical castration has been effective since July 2011 in Korea. According to the law, monitoring of male sex hormone in urine is enforced to request National Forensic Service more than once a month after injection of medicine designed to reduce sex impulse. We estab- lished a rapid and sensitive method for the monitoring of testosterone (T) and epitestosterone (E) in human urine by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Three mL of urine was pretreated by solid-phase extraction for purification and performed enzymatic hydrolysis. The pretreated samples were extracted twice with 2 ml of ethyl acetate and n-hexane (2 : 3). The separation was applied on Thermo Hypersil GOLD C18 column (1.9 µm, 100×2.1 mm). A gradient elution of methanol and water of 0.1% formic acid were used as mobile phase and the retention time was less than 10 min. LC-MS/MS system coupled with an electrospray ionization source was performed in multiple reaction monitoring mode. The transitions of the analytes executed as following: m/z 289→97, 109 for T and E, m/z 292→109 for T-d3 and E-d3 as internal standards. The validation results of the method were satisfactory. The limits of detection were 0.05 ng/ml and the limits of quantification were 0.1 ng/ml. This method was successfully applied to real human urine sample. The developed method will be useful for monitoring T/E ratio in urine of sex offenders.
북커버디자인이 책의 구매효과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 2004~2005 베스트셀러 비소설 부문을 중심으로

In the years 2004 and 2005, the value of domestic publishing market is estimated to amount to about 2,3 trillion wons, and that of the literary books amounts to about 290 billion wons. Since the competition is fierce in the publishing market, various efforts are made to research into the factors affecting consumers' purchasing decisions on books. Book cover may be one of such factors, which needs to be researched into. In order for a book to outstand among numerous books with similar contents, its cover design should be differentiated from others. When consumers overview the books on shelf, they tend to be attracted first to their cover designs. So, a differentiated book design would have a positive effect on consumers' purchasing decision. With such basic conceptions in mind, this study was aimed at empirically analyzing the effects of book cover designs on readers' purchasing decisions To this end, the researcher sampled 200 readers in their 20's∼50's for a survey for the best-seller non-fictions published in 2004 and 2005. The methods used for this survey were three-fold: analysis of the entire responses, analysis by age group and analysis by gender. The primary collection for the survey consisted 24 books with their covers having the typography applied, 40 books with their covers having the illustrations applied and 45 books with their covers having the photos applied, and out of these 109 books, were sampled finally the top-20 best-seller books. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; First, as a result of analyzing the existing book covers, it was found that most of them had used illustrations (pictures) primarily. On the other hand, Ming font was used most for the book covers, and most of the titles were positioned at the central upper part. The most popular colors were black for title, white for margin and green for image. Figures were used most for the book covers with photos, but few black-and-white photos were used. Next, as a result of analyzing the results of the survey, it was disclosed that typographic designs were being more and more favored than illustration (picture) ones. And free style and Gothic fonts were favored next to Ming font in their order, and the book covers with figure photos were highly favored. As a consequence of the analysis by age-group, the readers in their 20'∼40's preferred the typographic ones of simple and orderly mood, while those in their 50's favored the factual or real photo expressions. And 40.4% of the subjects answered that their purchasing decisions were affected by the book cover designs, and 58.9% of the subjects reported that they had ever purchased a book only for its cover design. It was proven by this study that readers were much influenced by book cover designs when making a purchasing decision. Accordingly, in order to design some effective sales promotion strategies for books, it is judged necessary to review the book cover designs carefully, Lastly, it is hoped that this study will be followed up by future studies or book cover designers who will test in more precise and diverse ways every conceivable book design deemed conducive to the qualitative growth of our book cover designs.

Malakoplakia is an uncommon but distinctive type of chronic granulomatous infl ammation that occurs most commonly in the genitourinary tract, especially the urinary bladder. Most patients have associated conditions characterized by some degree of immunosuppression, as seen in solid-organ transplants, autoimmune diseases requiring steroid use,chemotherapy, chronic systemic diseases, alcohol abuse and poorly controlled diabetes. We report an unusual case of the renal malakoplakia that involved the perirenal space, extending to the descending colon in a 65-year-old Korean woman with secondary adrenal insuffi ciency and diabetes mellitus.

This paper tried to investigate the social change today and find a way to objectify it folklore studies relevance. The central subject of Korean Folklorist Conference in 2012 was ‘The task and the prospect of Korean folklore in global era’. In the conference was represented the vision of folklorist about the global era with ‘globalization’, ‘expansion to the world’, ‘trans-nationalization of subject of study’, but did not be discussed just what is the era actually. In my opinion, the rhetoric of global era itself is the political, discursive complex that can’t be generalized to be self-evident. So the task and the prospect of folklore vary depending on how to identify the rhetoric. In addition, without to reconsider the sense of the age, the purpose and the subject of studies, basic concepts and methodology of folklore can’t be explained the global era and the pressure of globalization that reorganizes the global space newly and the resulting changes of ordinary world. Therefore, this paper investigated firstly what kind of era is the era of globalization and how the local is defined as the opposed concept of the global. Secondly, it looked for the corresponding point of argument about the local and locality with the debate around the paradigm of folklore between Im Jaehae and Nam Kunwu. Finally it examined what kind of the methodological problems should be revisited, to extend the scope of the folklore study so to encompass the critical mind about the global and the local.
