In this paper, we propose a new type of a planar waveguide lens, a meniscus lens instead of a plano-convex lens used widely for the optical integrated circuits such as optical numerical processors. A plano-convex lens has a spherical aberration caused by the linear boundary. In the proposed meniscus lens, this linear boundary is replaced by a circular-boundary, and the spherical aberration is removed. To test the performance of the proposed lens, a meniscus lens is designed using Fermat principle and fabricated on the Y-cut $LiNbO_3$ substrate. First a $Ti:LiNbO_3$ planar waveguide is fabricated on the $LiNbO_3$ substrate by Ti indiffusion. Then a meniscus lens is fabricated on the planar waveguide by TIPE(Ti indiffued proton-exchange) method. A plano-convex lens is also fabricated on the same substrate to compare the spot size at the focal point. The measured spot size of the meniscus lens is reduced to 59% that of the plano-convex lens. This result shows that the proposed meniscus lens is more effective for optical integrated circuits than the plano-convex lens. 평면 광도파로 렌즈는 집적광학회로에 널리 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 새로운 형태의 평면 광도파로 렌즈를 제안하고 제작하여 기존의 볼록-평면렌즈와 그 특성을 비교하였다. 제안한 볼록-오목형 렌즈는 원형의 경계를 가지며 선형경계를 가지는 볼록-평면 렌즈에서 발생하는 구면 수차를 제거할 수 있다. Y-cut LiNbO$_{3}$ 기판 위에 Ti-내부확산 양자교환방식을 이용하여 제안한 볼록-오목 렌즈와 기존의 볼록-평면 렌즈에 비해 초점에서의 spot의 크기를 약 59% 정도 줄일 수 있었다.

목적: 저자들은 족저 근막염에 대한 초음파 소견과 임상적 변수들과의 연관성을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 본원에서 2007년 10월부터 2008년 4월까지 이학적 검사 및 초음파 검사를 통해 족저 근막염으로 진단받은 36명 49발과 증상이 없는 21발을 대상으로 하였다. 병변은 23명이 편측, 13명이 양측이었다. 남자 16명, 여자 20명이었고, 평균나이는 48.6세였다. 편측군과 양측군, 환측과 건측의 족저 근막의 두께, 근막 내부의 에코성, 족저 근막 파열 유무, 석회화, 종골하 골극형성을 조사하여 비교하였다. 족저 근막 두께와 평균나이, 체질량 지수, 증상기간, 통증지수와의 상관관계를 조사하였다. 결과: 편측군과 양측군 사이에 나이, 성별, 체질량지수, 증상기간의 차이는 없었다. 족저 근막의 두께는 편측군이 $5.2{\pm}1.5mm$, 양측군이 $4.4{\pm}1.4mm$로 유의한 차이가 있었다(p=0.045). 양 군간 저에코 음영과 종골하 골극의 빈도는 차이가 없었다. 전례에서 근막 파열이나 석회화는 없었다. 환측 족저 근막의 두께는 $4.8{\pm}1.5mm$로 건측의 $3.1{\pm}0.5mm$에 비해 두꺼웠다(p=0.000). 족저 근막의 두께는 증상기간과 음의 상관관계가 있었다(p=0.046). 결론: 족저 근막염에 대한 초음파 검사상 근막의 두께가 반대쪽보다 유의하게 두꺼웠고 편측군이 양측군보다 유의하게 두꺼웠으며 증상기간과 족저 근막의 두께는 반비례 관계를 보였다. Purpose: The goal of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the clinical findings and ultrasonographic findings of plantar fasciitis. Materials and Methods: Forty-nine symptomatic heels of 36 patients with plantar fasciitis and 21 asymptomatic heels were included. Twenty-three patients had unilateral lesions and 13 had bilateral lesions. Of these, 16 were men and 20 were women. The average age of the patients was 48.6 years. The plantar fascia thickness was measured at its insertion of the calcaneus. Qualitative parameters such as decreased echogenity, biconvexity, partial rupture and calcification of plantar fascia, and subcalcaneal spur on plain radiographs were also noted. Comparisons of ultrasonographic parameters between symptomatic heels and asymptomatic heels as well as between unilateral and bilateral groups were done. Results: There was no differences in the age, sex, body mass index, and duration of symptom between the unilateral and bilateral group. There were a statistically significant difference between the thickness of plantar fascia of unilateral group (mean 5.2 mm, SD1.5 mm) and that of bilateral group (mean 4.4 mm, SD 1.4 mm) (p=0.045). The hypoechogenity of plantar fascia and subcalcaneal spur did not differ between two groups. No fascial rupture or fascial calcification were identified. There was a statistically significant difference between the thickness of plantar fascia of symptomatic heels (mean 4.8 mm, SD1.5 mm) and that of asymptomatic heels (mean 3.1 mm, SD 0.5 mm) (p=0.000). The thickness of plantar fasia was negatively correlated with duration of symptoms (p=0.046). Conclusion: The thickness of plantar fascia in plantar fasciitis seems to be negatively correlated with the duration of symptoms, and the thickness of symptomatic heels and unilateral group was significantly thicker than that of asymptomatic heels and bilateral group, respectively.

Purpose: To determine the clinical and radiographic results of arthroereisis using the $Kalix^{(R)}$ implant (Newdeal, Lyon, France) for the treatment of flexible flatfoot deformity. Materials and Methods: From February 2005 to February 2007, we performed the subtalar arthroereisis on 8 patients (9 feet) of symptomatic flexible flat feet after more than 6 months of conservative treatment. Average age was 14.5 years ($11{\sim}29$ years) old. We checked the functional status with AOFAS functional score pre-operatively and at final follow-up. Radiologically, we took weight bearing anterior to posterior and lateral view of the feet, and measured the talo-first metatarsal angle, calcaneal pitch angle in pre-operatively and at final follow-up. Results: Mean follow up period was 34.4 months. Average AOFAS score improved from preoperatively 65.6 to postoperatively 94.8. Average lateral talo-first metatarsal angle reduced from $12.8^{\circ}$ preoperatively to $1.6^{\circ}$ at final follow-up. Average anterior to posterior talo-first metatarsal angle was reduced from $15.1^{\circ}$ preoperatively to $8.3^{\circ}$ at final follow-up. Average calcaneal pitch angle was increased from $9.5^{\circ}$ preoperatively to $12.0^{\circ}$ at final follow-up. Conclusions: Subtalar arthroereisis with Kalix$K^{(R)}$ implant can be considered to be one of treatment options symptomatic flatfoot deformity patients.

원적외선 조사가 포도씨의 항산화능에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 10, 20, 30, 40 그리고 60분 간격으로 원적외선 조사를 한 후, 각각의 물, 메탄올 그리고 70% 에탄올 추출물을 제조하여 총 페놀함량과 DPPH 라디칼 소거능을 측정하여 포도씨의 항산화능 변화를 측정하였다. 이들 측정 결과, 무처리구 각각의 추출물의 총 페놀 함량 결과 0.95 mM, 3.4 mM 그리고 3.28 mM에 비해 원적외선 10분 조사구는 각각 1.84 mM, 4.52 mM 그리고 4.82 mM의 상당히 증가한 값을 나타내었다. 또, 라디칼 소거능의 경우, 무처리구의 추출물 33.87%, 76.55% 그리고 66.89%에 비해, 원적외선 10분 조사구는 각각 58.55%, 89.41% 그리고 84.62%를 나타내었다. GC/MS를 이용한 페놀 화합물의 성분 분석에서는 vanillic acid와 3,4-hydroxy benzoic acid 같은 저분자 페놀 화합물이 원적외선 처리에서 새로이 형성됨이 확인되었다. 이상의 결과는 원적외선 조사에 의해 포도씨에 존재하는 불활성화된 페놀성 화합물이 유리 활성화됨으로서 포도씨 추출물의 항산화능이 증가하였음을 시사한다. The effect of far-infrared (FIR) irradiation on the antioxidant activity of extracts from grape seed (GS) was evaluated. GS (5 g) were placed in Pyrex petri dishes (8.0 cm diameter) and FIR irradiated at 150℃ for 10, 20, 30, 40 or 60 min with a FIR heater. After FIR irradiation, water extract (WE) (1.0 g/10 mL), methanol extract (ME) (1.0 g/10 mL) and 70% ethanol extract (EE) (1.0 g/10 mL) of GS were prepared, and total phenol contents (TPC) and radical scavenging activity (RSA) of the extracts were determined. The antioxidant activities of GS extracts increased as FIR irradiation. For example, FIR irradiation of GS at 150℃ for 10 min increased the TPC and RSA of WE from 0.95 mM to 1.84 mM and 33.87% to 58.55%, respectively, compared to non-irradiated control. In the case of ME at the same conditions of FIR irradiation (150℃ for 10 min), the TPC and RSA also increased from 3.4 mM to 4.52 mM and 76.55% to 89.41%, respectively. The TPC and RSA of EE increased from 2.65 mM to 4.82 mM and 66.89% to 84.62%, too. According to the GC/MS analysis, several low-molecular-weight phenolic compounds such as vanillic acid and 3,4-hydroxy benzoic acid were newly formed in the EE after FIR irradiated at 150℃ for 10 min. There were slight differences in the kinds of phenolic compounds between EE of non irradiated control and FIR irradiated samples. These results indicated that FIR irradiation onto GS could enhance antioxidant activities of its extracts with increasing the amount of phenolic compounds.
