시금치 種子의 播種前 硬化處理 및 sodium hypochlorite 處理가 發芽에 미치는 影響

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of seed priming and sodium hypochlorite treatment on the germination of spinach seeds. Seed priming increased germination rate at earlier stages and shortened the duration from the beginning to the termination of germination but did not affect the final germination rate. Three cycles of 12-hour wetting and drying were the most effective on the germination. Sodium hypochlorite treatment promoted the germination of small seeds at lower concentrations and that of large seeds at higher concentrations at earlier stage. Sodium hypochlorite concentrations higher than 1.3% available chlorine and long time treatment(4 hours or longer) injured the pericarp, seed coat and the true seed, especially in smaller seeds. The sodium hypochlorite treatment for 2 hours at 1.0% available chlorine markedly increased the germination rate at high moisture level, especially in medium-sized and smaller seeds.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the seed characteristics and the effects of seed size on the seed germination and seedling growth in carrot. Seeds of 1.0 liter can were screened with 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 mesh standard sieves. Seed volume rate in 1.0 liter, liter weight, seed number, 1,000 seed weight were different to varieties in each size. Seeds of 12-18 mesh germinated faster and over 12 mesh seeds were slower in petri dish. Over 10 mesh seeds showed low germination rate in Jochun cultivar. Seeds under 18 mesh and over 12 mesh showed low germination rate. Emergence rate in vermiculite was high in seeds of 12-18 mesh. Seeds over 12 mesh showed lower early-germination rate. Seedling fresh weight measured 20 days after sowing was significantly higher in seedlings from larger seeds and those seeds of 16 mesh showed markedly lower seedling fresh weight.

This study was conducted to investigate and compare some seed characteristics of round-seeded spinach cultivars and to find out the effect of cultivars, seed sizes, temperature, moisture level and light on the germination. Seed characteristics, such as seed size distribution, seed compactness (seed wt/volume), seed weight including the weights of true seed and pericarp, differed considerably depending upon cultivars. Those seed produced in Europe or in U.S.A. exhibited heavier seed weigh, larger seed size, and high seed compactness value. Smaller seeds showed better seed germination rate especially at earlier stages at 18℃. At lower temperatures, seed germination was markedly delayed and the duration from the beginning to the termination of seed germination was greatly extended. Larger seeds germinated faster than smaller seeds at low temperatures, but smaller ones germinated faster than larger ones at high temperature(above 18℃). Final seed germination rate was low at high temperature especially in small seeds. Excess water significantly reduced the germination rate, especially of the larger seeds.
