Nesfatin-1 Hormone Levels in Patients with Antisocial Personality Disorder and Their Relationship with Clinical Variables

        S¸ ü,heda Kaya,Filiz Ö,zsoy,Gü,lay Tas¸cı,Mehmet Kalaycı 대한신경정신의학회 2020 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.17 No.9

Objective This study aims to investigate the levels of nesfatin-1-hormone in patients with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) and their relationship with clinical variables. Methods A total of 90 people (45 ASPD, 45 controls) were included in our study. Sociodemographic Data Form, Beck-Depression-Inventory (BDI), Beck-Anxiety-Inventory (BAI), Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11), Buss-Durkee-Hostility-Inventory (BDHI) were applied to all participants. Venous blood samples were taken from participants at the same time of the day when they were hungry. Results It was found that the BDI and BAI scores of the ASPD were higher than those of the controls (p<0.001, for both scales). The scores in BIS-11; motor and nonplanning-impulsivity subscales were higher than those of the controls (p<0.001, 0.036, respectively). The scores obtained by the ASPD were higher in all subscales of BDHI (p<0.001). For the nesfatin-1-hormone, the values of the ASPD were lower than those of the controls (p=0.044). No relationship was found between the nesfatin-1-hormone and any other laboratory parameters and applied scales (p>0.05). Conclusion This is the first study to examine the nesfatin-1-hormone levels in patients with any personality disorder. Further studies with more participants are needed in different types of personality disorders to understand the relationship between personality disorder and nesfatin-1-hormone levels.

Estimating the Optimal Dexketoprofen Pharmaceutical Formulation with Machine Learning Methods and Statistical Approaches

        Atakan Başkor,Yağmur Pirinçci Tok,Burcu Mesut,Yıldız Özsoy,Tamer Uçar 대한의료정보학회 2021 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.27 No.4

Objectives: Orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) can be utilized without any drinking water; this feature makes ODTs easy touse and suitable for specific groups of patients. Oral administration of drugs is the most commonly used route, and tabletsconstitute the most preferable pharmaceutical dosage form. However, the preparation of ODTs is costly and requires longtrials, which creates obstacles for dosage trials. The aim of this study was to identify the most appropriate formulation usingmachine learning (ML) models of ODT dexketoprofen formulations, with the goal of providing a cost-effective and timereducingsolution. Methods: This research utilized nonlinear regression models, including the k-nearest neighborhood (k-NN), support vector regression (SVR), classification and regression tree (CART), bootstrap aggregating (bagging), randomforest (RF), gradient boosting machine (GBM), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) methods, as well as the t-test, topredict the quantity of various components in the dexketoprofen formulation within fixed criteria. Results: All the modelswere developed with Python libraries. The performance of the ML models was evaluated with R2 values and the root meansquare error. Hardness values of 0.99 and 2.88, friability values of 0.92 and 0.02, and disintegration time values of 0.97 and10.09 using the GBM algorithm gave the best results. Conclusions: In this study, we developed a computational approach toestimate the optimal pharmaceutical formulation of dexketoprofen. The results were evaluated by an expert, and it was foundthat they complied with Food and Drug Administration criteria.

Manic Episode Associated with Mega Cisterna Magna

        Tayfun Turan,Aslı Bes¸irll,Akif Asdemir,Saliha Özsoy,Ertug˘rul Es¸el 대한신경정신의학회 2010 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.7 No.4

Mega cisterna magna is a part of “Dandy-Walker Complex” and it is characterized by the enlargement of the cisterna magna, morphologically intact vermis and cerebellar hemispheres. We report a case of manic attack in a 23-year-old man with mega cisterna magna. The patient was treated with quetiapine 1,000 mg/day and sodium valproate 1,500 mg/day and the symptoms were ameliorated within 2.5 months. In this case, mega cisterna magna and manic symptoms may be found together coincidentally or any cerebellar dysfunction due to mega cisterna magna may cause or contribute to the appearance of affective symptoms. To our knowledge, this is the first case reporting manic attack with psychotic symptoms associated with mega cisterna magna. This report suggests that any lesion in the cerebellum might contribute to the occurrences of some affective and psychotic symptoms seen in bipolar disorder.
