      • Comparison of Radical Cystectomy and Chemoradiotherapy in Patients with Locally Advanced Bladder Cancer

        The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of radical cystectomy (RC) and concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) with methotrexate, vinblastine, doxorubicin, and cisplatin (MVAC) in patients with locally advanced bladder cancer (BC). From December 2000 to February 2012, 72 patients with locally advanced BC (T3-4a, N0 or N+, M0) received either RC or CRT. RC with bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection including the common iliac region as the standard procedure. Patients in the CRT group received one cycle of MVAC followed by radiotherapy with a half dose of MVAC and then two more cycles of MVAC. Standard fractionation at a daily dose of 1.8-2.0 Gy was used, with a median total dose of 50 Gy (range, 45-60 Gy). The 3-year progression-free survival (PFS) rates in the RC and CRT groups were 56.2% and 25.6%, respectively (p=-0.015) and the 3-year overall survival (OS) rates were 63.5% and 48.1% (p=0.272). Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis with application of a propensity score indicated that RC was a significant predictor of PFS (p=0.033) but not of OS (p=0.291). Among patients with locally advanced BC, PFS was significantly prolonged in the RC group compared with the CRT group. However, RC was not a significant predictor of OS. Although the sample size in this study was small, the results suggest that patient background and postoperative quality of life should be considered when choosing treatment strategy for locally advanced BC.

        杏雨書屋所藏敦煌文獻『義記』(羽271)の基礎的硏究

        중국 남북조 시대의 남조 불교 융성은 양 무제(梁武帝, 재위 502-549) 시대에 전성기를 이루었는데, 그 전단계로서 주목되는 것이 남제 무제 (南齊武帝, 재위 482-493)의 장자인 문혜태자(文惠太子, 458-492)와 제2자인 경릉문선왕 소자양(竟陵文宣王 蕭子良, 460-494)을 중심으로 하는 남제 영명(永明) 년간(483-494)의 불교 진흥이다. 본고에서 고찰 대상으로 삼는 『의기(義記)』(羽271)는 바로 이 남제 전반기에 있어서의 남조 불교 교리학의 실록 자료로 생각되는 문헌이며, 소자양의 장서 목록등에 기재된 『잡의기(雜義記)』(또는 『의기(義記)』)20권의 잔권(殘卷)일가능성도 있는 지극히 귀중한 신출 자료이다. 본고는 이 『의기』의 기본 성격을 밝히기 위해 기고한 기초연구이며, I. 본문헌에 관한 기본 정보를 정리하며, II. 현존 『의기』에 등장하는 사명(寺名)·승명(僧名)에 입각하여 본 문헌의 성립지·성립연대를 추정하며, III. 또한 현존『의기』의 모두(冒頭) 3장의 후 2자인 1.2 천안 승종법사 해 법신의(天安僧鍾法師解法身義) 와 1.3 상정림 승유법사 해법신의(上定林僧柔法師解法身義) 라는 두 가지 법신의(法身義)를 중심으로 본 문헌의 성립 배경을 살펴 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본고의 고찰에서 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 현존 『의기』에 보이는 19개의 사명 거의 모두와 31명 승명의 절반은 『고승전(高僧傳)』및 『명승전(名僧傳)』·『속고승전(續高僧傳)』에서 확실하게 찾아볼 수 있다. 2. 본 문헌의 성립지는 건강(建康) 혹은 그 주변이며, 성립연대의 상한·하한은 각각 483년·489년으로 추정할 수 있다. 3. 본 문헌은 남제의 경릉문선왕 소자양의 장서 목록 등에 기재된 『잡의기』(또는 『의기』)20권의 잔권(殘卷)일 가능성이 있다. 4. 본 문헌은 저명한 승려들이 한 곳에 모여 행한 논의의 기록이라고 생각된다. Prosperity of Buddhism in southern area of China during the Southern and Northern Dynasties reached its golden age under the reign of Liang Wudi 梁武帝 (r. 502-549). For the previous stage of this flourishing, it has been noted by scholars that Buddhism was encouraged in the Yongming 永明 era (483-494) of the Southern Qi 齊 dynasty. During this time, the oldest son of Qi Wudi 齊武帝 (r. 482-493), Wenhui taizi 文惠太子 (458-492), and the second son, Jingling wenxuanwang Xiao Ziliang 竟陵文宣王 蕭子良 (460-494) played central roles. The Dunhuang manuscript Yiji 義記 (hane 羽 271) is a text considered to be a veritable record of the state of Buddhist doctrinal studies of the Southern Dynasties during the first half of the Southern Qi dynasty. This text was recently published, and is extremely valuable to scholars, as it possibly constitutes a surviving orphaned fascicle from the Za yiji 雜義記 (or the Yiji 義記) 20 juan 卷, which was included in Xiao Ziliang`s library list. This article is intended to clarify the basic nature of the Yiji. I focus on the following three goals: (I) to arrange basic information about the text; (II) to estimate the place where the text was composed, and the date of its completion, based on the names of temples and monks appearing in extant part of the Yiji; (III) to investigate the background of the composition of the text, with reference to the two "Fashen yi 法身義," namely "1.2 Tianan Sengzhong fashi Jie fashen yi 天安僧鍾法師解法身義" and "1.3 Shang dinglin Sengrou fashi Jie fashen yi 上定林僧柔法師解法身義," which constitute the latter two of the three chapters that form the beginning of the extant part of Yiji. The findings of the survey of this article are as follows: 1. We can identify almost all of the 19 names of temples and nearly half of the 31 names of monks that appear in the extant part of Yiji, as these temples and monks also appeared in the Gaoseng zhuan 高僧傳, the Mingseng zhuan 名僧傳, and the Xu gaoseng zhuan 續高僧傳. 2. We can estimate that the text was composed in Jiankang 建康, or its outskirts. We can also estimate that the date of its completion was between 483 and 489. 3. The text possibly constitutes a surviving orphaned fascicle from the Za yiji (or the Yiji) 20 juan, which were included in the library list of Jingling wenxuanwang Xiao Ziliang, of the Southern Qi dynasty. 4. The text is considered to be the record of debates held by famous monks, who met together in an assembly.

        Probabilistic analysis of buckling loads of structures via extended Koiter law

        Initial imperfections, such as initial deflection or remaining stress, cause deterioration of buckling strength of structures. The Koiter imperfection sensitivity law has been extended to describe the mechanism of reduction for structures. The extension is twofold: (1) a number of imperfections are considered, and (2) the second order (minor) imperfections are implemented, in addition to the first order (major) imperfections considered in the Koiter law. Yet, in reality, the variation of external loads is dominant over that of imperfection. In this research, probabilistic evaluation of buckling loads against external loads subjected to probabilistic variation is conducted by extending the concept of imperfection sensitivity. A truss arch subjected to dead and live loads is considered as a numerical example. The mechanism of probabilistic variation of buckling strength of this arch is described by the proposed method, and its reliability is evaluated.

      • Characteristics of Cow's Voices in Time and Frequency Domains for Recognition

        On the assumption that the voices of the cows are produced by the linear prediction filter, we characterized the cows' voices. The order of this filter was determined by examining the voice characteristics both in time and frequency domains. The proposed order of the linear prediction filter is 15 for modeling voice production of the cow. The characteristics of the amplitude envelope of the voice signal was investigated by analyzing the sequence of the short time variance both in time and frequency domains, and the new parameters were defined. One of the coefficients of the linear prediction filter generating the voice signal, the fundamental frequency, the slope of the straight line regressed from the log-log spectra of the short time variance and the coefficients of the linear prediction filter generating the sequence of the short time variance of the voice signal can differentiate the two cows.

      • Fuzzy Controller of Three-Inertia Resonance System designed by Differential Evolution

        In this paper, a new design method of vibration suppression controller for multi-inertia (especially, 3-ineritia) resonance systems is proposed. The controller consists of a digital fuzzy controller for speed loop and a digital PI controller for current minor loop. The three scaling factor of the fuzzy controller and two PI controller gains are determined by Differential Evolution (DE). The DE is one of optimization techniques and a kind of evolutionary computation technique. In this paper, we have applied the DE/rand/1/bin strategy to design the optimal controller parameters. Comparing with the conventional design algorithm, the proposed method is able to shorten the time of the controller design to a large extent and to obtain accurate results. Finally, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposal method by the computer simulations.

      • Evaluation of novel sulfonylurea derivatives with a fused heterocyclic moiety as paddy herbicides that control sulfonylurea-resistant weeds

        Herbicidal activity and acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibition of sulfonylurea derivatives with a fused heterocyclic moiety bonded to a sulfonyl group were investigated. Some compounds that had an imidazo[1,2-b]pyridazine moiety substituted at the 2-position by chlorine or methyl controlled sulfonylurea-resistant (SU-R) weeds and showed inhibitory activity to ALS prepared from SU-R Schoenoplectus juncoides shoot. There was a correlation between in vitro and whole-plant herbicidal activity of the compounds mentioned above against SU-R Schoenoplectus juncoides. Among them 1-(2-chloro-6-propylimidazo[1,2-b]pyridazin-3-ylsulfonyl)-3-(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)urea, propyrisulfuron, was selected for further evaluation. Propyrisulfuron effectively controlled paddy weeds at doses of 70 and 140 g a.i. $ha^{-1}$ with good rice selectivity in a field trial.

      • Deoxycytidine kinase and deoxyguanosine kinase of Lactobacillus acidophillus R-26 are colinear products of a single gene

        Three of the four deoxynucleoside kinases required for growth of Lactobacillus acidophilus R-26 exist as heterodimeric pairs specific for deoxyadenosine(dAK) and deoxycytidine (dCK) or dAK and deoxyguanosine (dGK). However, only two tandem genes, dak/dgk, are found, and are expressed only as dAK/dGK in transformed Escherichia coli. Sequencing peptides spanning 63% of the native dCK subunit revealed a sequence identical to that deduced from dgk(beginning MTVIVL…), except that dCK lacks residues 2 and 3 (dCK is M-IVL;dGK is ·TVIVL). Also, mass spectrometry indicates that native dCK and dGK subunits are identical in mass adjusted for the first three residues. Furtheromore, the native enzymes have identical isoelectric pH values, indicating an equal number of charged residues. To enable E. coli to express peptide having the native dCK sequence, codons 2 and 3 were deleted from the dgk portion of the tandem genes, resulting in expression of protein having the specificities and regulatory properties of dAK/dCK, including heterotropic stimulation of dAK activity by deoxycytidine or dCTP (not deoxyguanosine or dGTP) and end-product inhibition of the respective activities by dATP and dCTP. Subcloning normal and mutant dgk yielded homodimeric dGK and dCK, respectively. The dCK homodimer strongly resembles human dCK with a low ?? for deoxycytidine, the ability to phosphorylate deoxyadenosine and deoxyguanosine at much higher ?? values, and end-product inhibition by dCTP. Thus two distinct and specific enzymes evidently are derived from a single Lactobacillus gene. The mechanism by which this occurs in vivo has yet to be elucidated.

        ON A GROUP CLOSELY RELATED WITH THE AUTOMORPHIC LANGLANDS GROUP

        Let L<sub>K</sub> denote the hypothetical automorphic Langlands group of a number field K. In our recent study, we briefly introduced a certain unconditional non-commutative topological group ${\mathfrak{W}}{\mathfrak{A}}{\frac{\varphi}{K}}$, called the Weil-Arthur idèle group of K, which, assuming the existence of L<sub>K</sub>, comes equipped with a natural topological group homomorphism $NR{\frac{\varphi}{K}^{Langlands}}$ : ${\mathfrak{W}}{\mathfrak{A}}{\frac{\varphi}{K}}$ → L<sub>K</sub> that we called the "Langlands form" of the global nonabelian norm-residue symbol of K. In this work, we present a detailed construction of ${\mathfrak{W}}{\mathfrak{A}}{\frac{\varphi}{K}}$ and $NR{\frac{\varphi}{K}^{Langlands}}$ : ${\mathfrak{W}}{\mathfrak{A}}{\frac{\varphi}{K}}$ → L<sub>K</sub>, and discuss their basic properties.

      • Experimental Verification of Electric Vehicle Using Electric Double Layer Capacitor

        This paper discusses to conduct experimental verification of two types of micro electric vehicles (EV) in order to realize improvement in electric mileage and shorten a charging time of the battery. First, electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) systems to use as a secondary battery are proposed. The internal resistance of EDLC is small compared with a rechargeable battery, and it is suitable for momentary charge-discharge of EV. Next, control circuits of the capacitors to increase the regenerative electric power are utilized. Then, a novel method to charge a main battery of the EV is introduced. Finally, experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
