      • AE에 의한 연삭과정 In-Process 검출에 관한 연구

        Grinding process is affected by many factors, such as the selection of grinding wheel, the dressing condition, and the grinding conditon. In addition performance of the grinding wheel depends on the time of the grinding process. The acoustic emission is defined as an elastic strain stress wave of acute pulse pattern, when fracture, plastic strain and transformation of solid materials occur. AE with dynamic and high sensibility detects the defects of material, predictability of fracture, and on-line monitoring. The purpose of this paper is to investigate that the possibility and application of AE to the grinding work are consistent with grinding condition detected by AE signal and the initial contact point of the grinding wheel and work-piece by the use of AE. The following are the results given by the experiment. It can be expected, to some extent, that the characteristic of the grinding wheel is monitored by AE signal of dressing condition. The side wear of abrasive grain and wear condition of the dresser can be judged from monitoring of AE signal. The spark-out grinding work can be observed by AE cumulative event counts N. Abnormal grinding pattern is detected by AE signal because the value of AE signal is differently indicated, due to contact pattern between grinding wheels and workpieces. Under grinding process, tool life of the grinding wheel can be judged from monitoring of AE signal.

        Acoustic Emission is not only expected as a non-destructive evaluation technique in practice but also noted as a new powerful means of evaluation of materials. AE occurs with plastic deformation and propagation of crack, and this patterns of occurence of AE vary with materials. AE which comes from propagation of crack depends on the shapes and properties of materials. Like this AE has characteristic of material. The present work is an attempt to evaluate characteristics of carbon steel(SM55C)and Die steel(SKD11)by means of dynamic response of AE method.
