Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between sensitization to mite and airway hyperresponsiveness in mite-sensitive young adults with asthma. Methods: This study included 72 young male Korean conscripts aged between 19 and 30 years who complained of recurrent wheezing and dyspnea with nocturnal aggravation and no history of other lung disease, asthma exacerbation, or treatment against asthma except short-acting beta2 agonists over the last 2 months. They underwent pulmonary function tests and methacholine challenge tests. In 63 subjects, the forced expiratory volume in 1 second was more than 60% of the predicted value, and the provocative concentration of methacholine causing a 20% decline in forced expiratory volume in 1 second in methacholine challenge tests was less than 16 mg/mL. Serum was collected from these subjects to measure specific immunoglobulin E against Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus using the AdvanSure Allergy Screen test. Results: Specific immunoglobulin E against Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus correlated negatively with provocative concentration of methacholine causing a 20% decline in forced expiratory volume in 1 second in 50 subjects who were mite-sensitive (γ= -0.368, P=0.009; and γ=-0.415, P=0.003, respectively). However, specific immunoglobulin E against Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus was not correlated with forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 second, or forced expiratory volume in 1 second/ forced vital capacity. Conclusion: Sensitization to mites may correlated with airway hyperresponsiveness in mite-sensitive young adults with asthma.

Background: This study examined whether defects in insulin secretion contribute to the development and progression of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: Plasma insulin and glucose were measured after a glucose tolerance test to calculate the insulinogenic index (IGI) and the HOMA-IR Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance in subjects with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), prediabetes (preDM, n=49), and T2DM patients with disease duration <1 year (n=84), 1~5 years (n=45), or >5 years (n=37). Plasma proinsulin and adiponectin levels were also measured as a parameter of insulin secretion and resistance. Results: The mean HOMA-IR increased and the adiponectin levels decreased relative to the deterioration of glucose tolerance in NGT and preDM subjects. However, differences in the HOMA-IR were not related to disease duration in T2DM subjects. The mean IGI was similar in NGT and preDM subjects, but there were significant deteriorations in IGI relative to the duration of diabetes. Conclusions: Defects in both insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion contribute to T2DM, but decreased insulin secretion may be more important in the development and progression of T2DM.
Avulsion Fracture of the Calcaneal Tuberosity: Classifi cation and Its Characteristics

Background: Not much is known regarding avulsion fractures of the calcaneal tuberosity. We propose a modifi ed classifi cationscheme that presents the four types of calcaneal avulsion fracture as described by surgical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)fi ndings, and evaluation of their specifi c features. Methods: Out of 764 cases of calcaneal fractures, we examined 20 cases (2.6%) that involved the tuberosity of the calcaneus. Each case was classifi ed depending on the avulsed fracture patterns as follows; type I is a 'simple extra-articular avulsion' fracture,type II is the 'beak' fracture, type III is an infrabursal avulsion fracture from the middle third of the posterior tuberosity, andfi nally in type IV there is the 'beak', but a small triangular fragment is separated from the upper border of the tuberosity. We examinedthe features of each avulsed type according to several criteria including patient age, gender, anatomical variances of theAchilles tendon, the fi bers involved and the mechanism of injury. Results: The type I fracture (8/20 cases) was the most common and likely to occur in elderly women. However, in other types,they were more common in relatively younger male patients. Type I were usually caused due to an accidental trip causing a fall bythe patient. However, the dominant cause of type II (5/20 cases) fractures a direct blow or hit directly to the bone. Type III (4/20cases) and IV (3/20 cases) fractures were likely to occur due to falling. All fi bers within the Achilles tendon are involved in bothtype I and II fractures. However, only the superfi cial fi bers are involved in type III fractures, whereas the deep fi bers are involved intype IV fractures. Conclusions: The avulsion patterns of the calcaneal tuberosity fractures are the result of several factors including the bony densitylevel, the mechanism of injury and the fi bers of the Achilles tendon that transmit the force. Accurate diagnosis of type III andIV is dependant on MRI technology to confi rm the specifi c location of the injury and provide proper patient treatment therapeutics.

A new gerbera variety ‘Claret’ was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2006. A cross was made between ‘Rako’ with pink and semi-double and ‘Sessile’ with orange and single in 2000. After investigation of the characteristics for 6 years (from 2000 to 2006), it was selected specially for the use of cut-flower. ‘Claret’ is vigorous cultivar with purple and semi-double. It produces a large yield with continuous supply of flowers and has adequate peduncle height and brilliant color. We believe that ‘Claret’ has a great potential for expanding cultivated area of domestic mini-gerbera cultivar and increasing farmers-income. Hydrogen peroxide (H_(2)O_(2)) accumulates transiently In various cell types stimulated with peptide growth factors and pariicipates in receptor signaling by oxidizing the essential cysteine residues of protein tyrosine phosphatases and the lipld phosphatase PTEN. The reversible inactivation of these phosphatases by H_(2)O_(2) Is likely required to prevent futile cycles of phosphorylation-dephosphorylation of proteins and phosphoinositides. The accumulation of H_(2)O_(2) is possible even in the presence of large amounts of the antioxidant enzymes peroxlredoxin I and II in the cytosol, probably because of a built-in mechanism of peroxiredoxin inactivation that Is mediated by H_(2)O_(2) and reversed by an ATP-dependent reduction reaction catalyzed by sulfiredoxin.

Introduction and Background To compare the efficacy between the direct effect of nanofiber-based vitamin D sheet engineered with 3D printing(VTD sheet) and vitamin D supplementation(VTDS) as diet on tendon-to-bone healing and muscle regeneration after repair in a chronic rotator cuff tear model of rabbit Material and Method Sixty-four rabbits were randomly allocated into two groups(n=32), then each group was allocated into four small groups (Group A,A’:VTDS only,Group B,B’:Normal diet+sheet without vitamin D,Group C,C’:Normal diet+VTD sheet,Group D,D’:VTDS+VTD sheet,n=8 each). The supraspinatus tendons were repaired with the sheet only for groups B and B’, and VTD sheet for groups C,C’,D and D’ (Figure 1). Groups A,B,C, and D and groups A’,B’,C’, and D’ were extracted at 4 and 12 weeks after repair. respectively. Serum 25-OH VTD level was checked. The genes including COL1, COL3, BMP-2, SCX, SOX9, and ACAN was assessed at 4 and 12 weeks after repair. The histological and biomechanical evaluations of tendon-to-bone healing were done at 12 weeks after repair. Rotator cuff muscle cross-sectional areas were measured at 4 and 12 weeks after repair. ELISA was done to calculate vitamin D level in muscle at 12 weeks after repair. Results Serum VTD level of group D and D’ was highest among groups at the time of repair and extraction(p<0.001). At 4 weeks after repair, mRNA expression of COL1 in group D was highest among groups(p=0.046). At 12 weeks after repair, group D’ showed most dense collagen density(p=0.037), and had highest load to failure among groups(p=0.024). Regarding muscle regeneration, the cross-sectional area of muscle fiber was largest in group D and D’ at 4 and 12 weeks after repair(p<0.05) with highest VTD level of muscle by ELISA at 12 weeks after repair(p=0.003). Conclusions The use of nanofiber-based VTD sheet engineered with 3D printing may promote tendon-to-bone healing and regenerate rotator cuff muscle after repair in a chronic rabbit rotator cuff tear model.
A New Traffic Load Shedding Scheme in Microcellular CDMA with Uniform and Non-uniform Traffic Load

In this paper we proposed a new traffic load shedding scheme which maximizes the throughput of traffic control by decreasing the load of the hot-spot cell using minimum load cell selection (MLCS) algorithm and deployed control flow of calls to define characteristic for handoff region. We compared the performance of the random shedding approach with that of the proposed algorithm. The results of simulation show that MLCS algorithm minimizes the call blocking rate under a high-density traffic compared to the random shedding scheme.
