Protective Effect of Curcumin and Aqueous Extract of Onchengyeum on CCl_(4)-induced Hepatotoxicity

An aqueous extract of oriental herbal composition named Onchengyeum and curcumin, an antioxidant isolated from turmeric (Curcuma longa Linné) reduced hepatotoxicity induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl_(4)). Improved liver function was observed by measuring the activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (CRE), total cholesterol (TCHO), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-CHO), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-CHO), total protein (TP), albumin (ALB) and total bilirubin (BIL) in serum. Hepatic parameters monitored were levels of cholesterol (CHO), triglyceride (TG), malondialdehyde (MDA) and content of cytochrome P450 (CYP), level of glutathione (GSH), activities of NADPH-CYP reductase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione peroxidase (GPx). The histopathological examination showed that the treatment of Onchengyeum and curcumin relieved the ballooning degeneration of hepatocytes which had been generated by CCl_(4). The results suggested that hepatoprotective effects of Onchengyeum and curcumin possibly are due to their promising antioxidative activity.

In the advanced age, cardiovascular disease is more serious than any other disease. Especially, the thrombus causes the serious disease like apoplexia, cerebri and myocardial infarction. Thrombosis is caused by the injury of endothelium and the alterations in normal blood flow. To investigate activities of Carthamus tinctorius L. Semen butanol fraction for blood coagulation system, endotoxin (4000EU/㎏) was injected (i..v) to rats at 1hr after administration of Carthamus tinctorius L. Semen butanol fraction (500 ㎎/㎏, p.o.). Carthamus tinctorius L. Semen butanol fraction was found to have antiplatelet activity in vitro. In vivo it showed a delay of blood clotting time, and prothrombin time, and reduction of fibrinogen and FDP. It also increased SOD acitivity, and decreased MDA content. These results suggest that the antithrombosis effect of Carthamus tinctorius L. Semen butanol fraction results from suppressive activity for a blood coagulation system and antioxidative activity.

The Investigation of Natural Environment; INE is conducted for the current status of national ecosystem and environment and for the renewal of ecological and natural map which serve the basic information for effective management of natural environment, rep. of Korea. Survey spot and line, time, duration are selected by each investigator in the current bird survey of INE. This study is conducted for the development of effective survey method. For the selection of suitable survey duration, we analyze the bird census result in each 10 minute according to the sites inland, subalpine, civilian control zone and large and small islands. The bird surveys are conducted from April to October in 2014. If we have no restriction of survey, we conducted the bird survey during 2 hours. The more survey duration the more the number of recorded bird species. However, additional newly recorded bird species are reduced. The number of newly recorded bird species is not reduced until 2 hours in the inland area and large island area. On the contrary, The number of newly recorded bird species is reduced after 1 hour in the subalpine and civilian control zone because of restriction of survey area and habitat types. The number of endangered species during 1 hour are detected 80% of the result of 2 hours continuous survey. It is needed that bird survey maintain over 1 hour in each survey site for the enough result to understand avifauna, but several survey area and relatively short survey duration are needed in subalpine and forest area which contains low diversity of habitat. The fourth investigation of Natural Environment focused on detailed mapping of the ecological and natural map. For the next step, Quantitative survey method which considering fixed survey spot, line, survey time and duration will be needed in the bird monitoring by using stationary survey quadrat.

<P>Unlike other classical protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), PTPRQ (PTP receptor type Q) has dephosphorylating activity towards phosphatidylinositide (PI) substrates. Here, the structure of the catalytic domain of PTPRQ was solved at 1.56?? resolution. Overall, PTPRQ adopts a tertiary fold typical of other classical PTPs. However, the disordered M6 loop of PTPRQ surrounding the catalytic core and the concomitant absence of interactions of this loop with residues in the PTP loop results in a flat active-site pocket. On the basis of structural and biochemical analyses, it is proposed that this structural feature might facilitate the accommodation of large substrates, making it suitable for the dephosphorylation of PI substrates. Moreover, subsequent kinetic experiments showed that PTPRQ has a strong preferences for PI(3,4,5)P3 over other PI substrates, suggesting that its regulation of cell survival and proliferation reflects downregulation of Akt signalling.</P>
기존 건축물의 승강로 화재안전성능 개선 방안에 관한 연구

기존 건축물은 현행 소방법 및 건축법을 소급해 적용할 수 없다는 이유로 비상용승강기와 제연설비가 설치되어 있지 않는 경우가 상당수 존재한다. 이렇듯 화재에 취약할 수밖에 없는 기존 건축물에서 화재가 발생했을 때 소방대 진입 및 구조활동이 가능한 통로를 확보하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 본 연구는 이러한 관점에서 기존 건축물의 화재안전성능 개선에 따른 부담을 최소화하는 방안으로 승강로 급기가압 방식을 제시한다. 먼저, 수직통로를 통한 연기 확산에 무방비 상태인 기존의 고층 건축물의 문제점 및 화재사례를 분석하고, 국내외 비상용승강기 및 제연설비 관련 법규 현황을 비교분석하였다. 그리고 NIST의 Contam을 이용한 시뮬레이션을 통하여 승강로 급기가압 전과 후의 층별 차압을 비교함으로써 승강로 가압이 연돌효과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.
