Vol.55 No.-

Psychological Predictors of Satisfaction after Lumbar Surgery for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

        Yamamoto Yoshio,Kawakami Mamoru,Minetama Masakazu,Nakagawa Masafumi,Teraguchi Masatoshi,Kagotani Ryohei,Mera Yoshimasa,Sumiya Tadashi,Matsuo Sachika,Kitano Tomoko,Nakagawa Yukihiro 대한척추외과학회 2022 Asian Spine Journal Vol.16 No.2

Study Design: A retrospective study of prospectively collected clinical data. Purpose: To identify preoperative psychological factors associated with patient satisfaction after surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Overview of Literature: Associations between depressive symptoms, anxiety, and worse surgical outcome or patient dissatisfaction have been reported in LSS patients. However, the influence of preoperative pain catastrophizing and fear-avoidance beliefs on postoperative satisfaction is not well understood. Methods: LSS patients who underwent decompression surgery with or without fusion were included. Clinical outcomes were measured before surgery and 6 months postoperatively using the Zurich Claudication Questionnaire (ZCQ); Visual Analog Scale (VAS) of low back pain, leg pain, and leg numbness; Japanese Orthopaedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire; and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form General Health Survey (SF-36). The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Pain Catastrophizing Scale, and Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale were used to evaluate psychological status before surgery. Patients were classified as satisfied or dissatisfied with surgery based on a ZCQ satisfaction subscale cutoff score of 2.5. Results: The satisfied and dissatisfied groups contained 128 and 29 patients, respectively. Six months postoperatively, outcome scores for the dissatisfied group were unchanged or worse than preoperative scores (p >0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed significant associations between dissatisfaction and preoperative low back pain VAS score ≥median (odds ratio [OR], 0.27; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.10–0.74; p=0.01), preoperative mental health SF-36 score ≥median (OR, 0.26; 95% CI, 0.08–0.89; p=0.03), and preoperative anxiety HADS score ≥median (OR, 3.95; 95% CI, 1.16–13.46; p=0.03). Conclusions: Preoperative less severe low back pain, lower mental health, and higher anxiety are associated with patient dissatisfaction with lumbar surgery, not depression, pain catastrophizing, or fear-avoidance beliefs. Pre- and postoperative psychological status should be assessed carefully and managed appropriately.

      • Preparation of silica-coated gadolinium compound particle colloid solution and its application in imaging

        Kobayashi, Yoshio,Morimoto, Hikaru,Nakagawa, Tomohiko,Gonda, Kohsuke,Ohuchi, Noriaki Techno-Press 2013 Advances in nano research Vol.1 No.3

A preparation method for gadolinium compound (GdC) nanoparticles coated with silica ($GdC/SiO_2$) is proposed. GdC nanoparticles were prepared with a homogeneous precipitation method at $80^{\circ}C$ using $1.0{\times}10^{-3}$ M $Gd(NO_3)_3$, 0.5 M urea and $0-3.0{\times}10^{-4}$ M ethylenediarinnetetraacetic acid disodium salt dihydrate (ETDA) in water. As a result of preparation at various EDTA concentrations, GdC nanoparticles with a size as small as $40.5{\pm}6.2$ nm, which were colloidally stable, were prepared at an EDTA concentration of $2.0{\times}10^{-4}$ M. Silica-coating of the GdC nanoparticles was performed by a St$\ddot{o}$ber method at $35^{\circ}C$ using $1.0-10.0{\times}10^{-3}$ M tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS), 11 M $H_2O$ and $1.5{\times}10^{-3}$ M NaOH in ethanol in the presence of $1.0{\times}10^{-3}$ M GdC nanoparticles. Performance of preparation at various TEOS concentrations resulted in production of $GdC/SiO_2$ particles with an average size of $106.1{\pm}11.2$ nm at a TEOS concentration of $5.0{\times}10^{-3}$ M. The gadolinium (Gd) concentration of $1.0{\times}10^{-3}$ M in the as-prepared $GdC/SiO_2$ particle colloid solution was increased up to a Gd concentration of 0.2 M by concentrating with centrifugation. The core-shell structure of $GdC/SiO_2$ particles was undamaged, and the colloid solution was still colloidally stable, even after the concentrating process. The concentrated $GdC/SiO_2$ colloid solution showed images of X-ray and magnetic resonance with contrast as high as commercial Gd complex contrast agents.

Light induced recombination center at SiO2/Si interface by the reactive plasma deposition

        Tomohiko Hara,Taichi Tanaka,Kazuhito Nakagawa,Yuki Isogai,Takefumi Kamioka,Yoshio Ohshita 대한금속·재료학회 2021 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.17 No.5

Effect of lights with various wavelength on the defect generation in reactive plasma deposition (RPD) process is studiedusing capacitance–voltage analysis. Indium-tin oxide (ITO) deposition by RPD dramatically decreases the minority carrierlifetime and deteriorates the solar cell performances. The wavelength of light which arrives at the SiO2/Si interface andSi crystal is controlled by varying the SiO2thickness in SiO2/Si samples. Thick SiO2layer with above 10 nm prevents thepenetration of many ions into the SiO2/Si interface layer, and the only effects of light wavelength on the defect formation areobtained. When SiO2thickness are 10–600 nm, a large number of defects of the order of 1012eV−1 cm−2, mid gap energyof Si, are generated by ITO-RPD independent of SiO2thickness. These defects are expected to be recombination centers. These SiO2thicknesses are enough thick to completely absorb the light below-110-nm-wavelength. The results suggest thatthe light of longer wavelength than 110 nm mainly contributes to the defect formation in RPD process. On the other hand,in the case of 500 μm thick SiO2,the generated defects are significantly decreased by one order of magnitude (or decreasedto the order of 1010eV−1 cm−2) small amount of defect is generated. This thick SiO2prevents the penetration of light withbelow 180 nm wavelength into the Si. Therefore, the light with around 110–180 nm wavelength, which are generated by Arand/or O2plasma in RPD process, mainly forms the recombination-active defects.
