      • Assuring explainability on demand response targeting via credit scoring

        Lee, Kyungeun,Lee, Hyesu,Lee, Hyoseop,Yoon, Yoonjin,Lee, Eunjung,Rhee, Wonjong Elsevier 2018 ENERGY Vol.161 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>As data-driven innovation becomes a main trend in the energy sector, explainability of data-driven actions is becoming a major fairness issue for the residential applications, and it is expected to become a requirement for regulatory compliance. Explainability, however, often demands a sacrifice in prediction performance and affects the effectiveness of data-driven actions. In this study, we consider data-driven customer targeting in an incentive-based residential demand response program, and investigate the explainability-performance tradeoff when using simple-rule based, machine learning, and credit scoring methods. Credit scoring, that has been a popular solution in the finance discipline for over 60 years, is a scorecard based modeling method that can surely provide explainability. We first provide the detailed steps of applying credit scoring to the demand response problem. Then, we use a dataset of 14,525 households obtained from a real demand response program and analyze two prediction problems – participation prediction and behavior change prediction. The results show that credit scoring can achieve a comparable performance as the best-performing machine learning methods while providing full explainability. Our results suggest that credit scoring can be a promising explainability option for broader energy sector problems.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A quantitative analysis of data-driven targeting in residential DR. </LI> <LI> Explainability of data-driven actions and its relation to fairness. </LI> <LI> Details of implementing credit scoring, which has good explainability, for DR. </LI> <LI> A case study of incentive DR, where the DR was operated through a smartphone app. </LI> <LI> Credit scoring can achieve a comparable performance as machine learning methods. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • Lipolytic efficacy of alginate double-layer nanoemulsion containing oleoresin capsicum in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes

        Lee, Mak-Soon,Jung, Sunyoon,Shin, Yoonjin,Lee, Seohyun,Kim, Chong-Tai,Kim, In-Hwan,Kim, Yangha TaylorFrancis 2017 Food & nutrition research Vol.61 No.-

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P><B>Background</B>: Oleoresin capsicum (OC) is an organic extract from fruits of the genus <I>Capsicum</I>, and has been reported to have an anti-obesity effect.</P><P><B>Objective</B>: This study comparatively investigated lipolytic effects of single-layer nanoemulsion (SN) and alginate double-layer nanoemulsion (AN) containing OC in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.</P><P><B>Methods</B>: SN and AN were compared by analyzing the intracellular lipid accumulation, triglyceride (TG) content, release of free fatty acids (FFAs) and glycerol, and mRNA expression of genes related to adipogenesis and lipolysis were analyzed in fully differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes.</P><P><B>Results</B>: Compared with SN, AN exhibited higher efficiency in inhibiting the intracellular lipid accumulation and TG content, and enhanced the release of FFAs and glycerol into the medium. In AN-treated cells, mRNA levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ and the fatty acid-binding protein adipocyte protein-2, which are involved in adipogenesis, were down-regulated, whereas those of genes related to lipolysis, including hormone-sensitive lipase and carnitine palmitoyl transferase-1α, were up-regulated compared with SN-treated cells.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B>: The lipolytic effect of AN was greater than that of SN; this was partly associated with the increased TG hydrolysis via induction of lipolytic gene expression and suppression of adipogenic gene expression in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.</P>

      • Regulators of an Infinite Family of the Simplest Quartic Function Fields

Lee, Jungyun,Lee, Yoonjin Canadian Mathematical Society 2017 Canadian journal of mathematics Vol.69 No.3

<B>Abstract</B><P>We explicitly find regulators of an infinite family {<I>Lm</I>} of the simplest quartic function fields with a parameter m in a polynomial ring [t], where is the finite field of order q with odd characteristic. In fact, this infinite family of the simplest quartic function fields are subfields of maximal real subfields of cyclotomic function fields having the same conductors. We obtain a lower bound on the class numbers of the family {<I>Lm</I>} and some result on the divisibility of the divisor class numbers of cyclotomic function fields that contain {<I>Lm</I>} as their subfields. Furthermore, we find an explicit criterion for the characterization of splitting types of all the primes of the rational function field (t) in {<I>Lm</I>}.</P>

Effect of ECQ on Iodoacetamide-Induced Chronic Gastritis in Rats

        Lee, Se Eun,Song, Hyun Ju,Park, Sun Young,Nam, Yoonjin,Min, Chang Ho,Lee, Do Yeon,Jeong, Jun Yeong,Ha, Hyun Su,Kim, Hyun-Jung,Whang, Wan Kyun,Jeong, Ji Hoon,Kim, In Kyeom,Kim, Hak Rim,Min, Young Sil,S The Korean Society of Pharmacology 2013 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.17 No.5

This study investigated effect of extract containing quercetin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-glucuronopyranoside from Rumex Aquaticus Herba (ECQ) against chronic gastritis in rats. To produce chronic gastritis, the animals received a daily intra-gastric administration of 0.1 ml of 0.15% iodoacetamide (IA) solution for 7 days. Daily exposure of the gastric mucosa to IA induced both gastric lesions and significant reductions of body weight and food and water intake. These reductions recovered with treatment with ECQ for 7 days. ECQ significantly inhibited the elevation of the malondialdehyde levels and myeloperoxidase activity, which were used as indices of lipid peroxidation and neutrophil infiltration. ECQ recovered the level of glutathione, activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), and expression of SOD-2. The increased levels of total NO concentration and iNOS expression in the IA-induced chronic gastritis were significantly reduced by treatment with ECQ. These results suggest that the ECQ has a therapeutic effect on chronic gastritis in rats by inhibitory actions on neutrophil infiltration, lipid peroxidation and various steps of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation.

A level 16 analogue of Ramanujan series for 1/<i>π</i>

Lee, Yoonjin,Park, Yoon Kyung Academic Press 2017 Journal of mathematical analysis and applications Vol.456 No.1

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The modular function [FORMULA OMISSION] is called <I>a level 16 analogue of Ramanujan's series for</I> 1 / π . We prove that h ( τ ) generates the field of modular functions on Γ 0 ( 16 ) and find its modular equation of level <I>n</I> for any positive integer <I>n</I>. Furthermore, we construct the ray class field K ( h ( τ ) ) modulo 4 over an imaginary quadratic field <I>K</I> for τ ∈ K ∩ H such that Z [ 4 τ ] is the integral closure of Z in <I>K</I>, where H is the complex upper half plane. For any τ ∈ K ∩ H , it turns out that the value 1 / h ( τ ) is integral, and we can also explicitly evaluate the values of h ( τ ) if the discriminant of <I>K</I> is divisible by 4.</P>

Three Ramanujan continued fractions with modularity

Lee, Yoonjin,Park, Yoon Kyung Elsevier 2018 Journal of number theory Vol.188 No.-

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We study three Ramanujan continued fractions c ( τ ) , W ( τ ) and T ( τ ) . In fact, c ( τ ) and W ( τ ) are modular functions of level 16, and T ( τ ) is a modular function of level 32. We first prove that the values of c ( τ ) and W ( τ ) can generate the ray class field modulo 4 over an imaginary quadratic field <I>K</I>. We also prove that 2 / ( 1 − c ( τ ) ) , 1 / W ( τ ) , T ( τ ) + 1 / T ( τ ) are algebraic integers for any imaginary quadratic quantity <I>τ</I>. Furthermore, we find the modular equations of c ( τ ) , T ( τ ) and W ( τ ) for any level, and we show that c ( τ ) and W ( τ ) satisfy the Kronecker's congruence. We can express the value c ( r τ ) (respectively, T ( r τ ) , W ( r τ ) ) in terms of radicals for any positive rational number <I>r</I> when the value c ( τ ) (respectively, T ( τ ) , W ( τ ) ) can be written as radicals.</P>

FUNDAMENTAL UNITS AND REGULATORS OF AN INFINITE FAMILY OF CYCLIC QUARTIC FUNCTION FIELDS

Lee, Jungyun,Lee, Yoonjin Korean Mathematical Society 2017 대한수학회지 Vol.54 No.2

We explicitly determine fundamental units and regulators of an infinite family of cyclic quartic function fields $L_h$ of unit rank 3 with a parameter h in a polynomial ring $\mathbb{F}_q[t]$, where $\mathbb{F}_q$ is the finite field of order q with characteristic not equal to 2. This result resolves the second part of Lehmer's project for the function field case.

Ex Vivo Permeability Characteristics of Porcine Buccal Mucosa to Drugs with Various Polarity

        Lee, Jaehwi,Lee, Yoonjin,Yoon, MiKyeong,Choi, Young Wook 한국약제학회 2005 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.35 No.2

The aim of this study was to analyze characteristics of the barrier function of excised porcine buccal mucosa to the test compounds, estradiol, propranolol HCI, melatonin, and mannitol with a wide range of partition coefficient values. The permeability of melatonin was measured through frozen, stored, and fresh porcine buccal mucosa to examine the impact of storage conditions on the permeability of porcine buccal mucosa. The results demonstrated that the ex vivo permeability of the porcine buccal mucosa was greater for more lipophilic solutes, which was consistent with a series of molecules trans-ported by passive transepithelial diffusion. The melatonin permeation profiles through frozen, stored. and fresh mucosa illustrated that damage was incurred by the freezing process of the mucosal tissue. leading to loss of the barrier function and thereby an increased permeation coefficient. It can be observed that the influence of compound lipophilicity on the association of the compounds with buccal mucosa was clean. The relationship between permeation coefficient and Log P values for the four compounds investigated demonstrated a proportional relationship, further confirming the importance of the lipophilicity of a compound to permeate the buccal mucosa. These results showed that the ex vivo porcine buccal mucosa model is a suitable tool to screen oral mucosal permeability.
