Vol.16 No.2

(Background and Purpose) A culture of consumption that values importance also requires an integrated approach to the brand. In particular, in modern society, a brand strategy is sensitive to trends, and shows a variety of patterns by country depending on the lifestyle and consumption habits of customers. This is a marketing strategy to show differentiation experience and brand identity, and efficiently showing the brand's storytelling spreads to various identity depending on the country and the distribution environment. The purpose of this study is to derive an effective way for the spatial storytelling to enhance the usefulness and competitiveness of marketing strategies when a brand extends globally. It is hoped that this study may be used as a guideline and a reference for the global identity of spatial design when brands enter the global market in the future. (Method) First, to study on strengthening global competitiveness, three spatial storytelling structures for the brand's global expansion were derived, and five elements of global acceptance required for the brand were studied. Second, by understanding the global diffusion of cosmetics, the scope of this study was determined and the basis for case study was established. Third, for the spatial design of brand storytelling, we present a framework model of six analyses that subdivided the marketing effects of storytelling and the structure formation in space into three components: object, temporal, and transitive. (Results) A brand space with strong competitiveness with a long tradition and history like Chanel shows various variations while expressing the strong unity and identity of the brand rather than directing an explanatory and learning storytelling. On the other hand, in the case of herbal medicine cosmetics and eco-friendly cosmetics brands, requiring to advertise their brands, they showed high learnability according to the luxury retail market and the premium market. In the case of eco-friendly cosmetics brands in the premium market, they showed good applicability by diffusing to various distribution environments with a tendency of high variability but a bit low unity and identity. (Conclusions) Uniformity is a very important strategy for cosmetics brands, but it can be seen that uniformity and volatility are very important factors for global expansion as they sometimes show various changes depending on the brand's properties and distribution environment. It is important for new brands to show the learning effect through storytelling in order to increase their differentiation. K-beauty is a craze and shows step-by-step learning effects to consumers at a time when global spread is important, and it can be seen that showing the brand's properties efficiently is very important for the brand's expansion strategy. It is expected that it will be used as a reference for global expansion of brands in the future.

      • Post-assembly modification of polymeric composite membranes using spin drying for fuel cell applications

Lee, Kyung Ah,Yoon, Ki Ro,Kwon, Sung Hyun,Lee, Kyung Jin,Jo, Sunhee,Lee, Ju Sung,Lee, Kwan-Young,Lee, Seung Woo,Lee, Seung Geol,Kim, Jin Young The Royal Society of Chemistry 2019 Journal of materials chemistry. A, Materials for e Vol.7 No.13

Self-assembly of inter- and intraphases between the ionomer membrane and mechanical reinforcements in reinforced polymeric composite membranes is of great interest in both physics and chemistry, particularly for proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) application. One of the greatest challenges is to obtain an optimally structured polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-reinforced perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) composite membrane via solution processing. For high- performance and durable PEMFC applications, the self-assembly of interphases of the ionomers/reinforcements and intraphases of the ionomers in the composite PEM needs to be carefully tailored. Here, we show that post-assembly modification of a PTFE/PFSA composite membrane using a spin-drying method can significantly improve fuel cell performance and reliability. The forced assembly of PFSA ionomers during spinning results in greater infiltration yields into the porous PTFE media. In this way, spin-drying post-treatment results in lower gas crossover and improved mechanical durability. This process also yields larger regions of ionic clusters, which facilitate proton conduction at low relative humidity, affording higher fuel cell currents and greater efficiency.

      • Enhanced Efficacy of the Commissural Transmission between Lateral Giants in the sensitization of Crayfish Escape Behavior

Vol.6 No.-

Lateral giant (LG)-mediated escape response of crayfish is sensitized by natural traumatic events. Such sensitization has previously been shown to be associated with increased transmission between primary afferents and sensory interneurons at the cholinergic synapse of LG escape reflex circuit. In the present study, it was firstly investigated as to whether transmission is also altered at other synapses of the LG-escape reflex circuit by traumatic shock-induced sensitization. Evidence that traumatic shock also directly affects the excitability of lateral giants is now provided by the finding that traumatic shock porduces a significant reduction of the time needed for LG to recruit its contralateral homologue, which is defined as commissural delay. Octopamine, a naturally occurring neuromodulator in the crayfish nerve cord, has also been shown to enhance transmission at the cholinergic synapse between primary afferents and sensory interneurons, and has been conjectured to mediate sensitization Like traumatic shock, octopamine (10^-5×10^-4M) also enhanced the efficacy of commissural transmission between lateral giants, as indicated by a significant reduction of commissural delay. This effect was blocked by an octopamine antagonist phentolamine, suggesting a specific action of octopamine on the octopamine receptor present of LGs. These observations suggest that both traumatic shocks and octopamine may cause a rather broad alteration in the excitability of the crayfish nervous system that contributes to the sensitization of the LG escape response.

Language learners’ retrieval strategies as shown in topic-controlled deletion in topic chains : A comparison between Chinese and Korean native speakers’ interlanguages

Vol.50 No.1

In Chinese, a topic-prominent language, pronouns are often omitted in favor of zero-anaphora. Therefore, Chinese-learners who are speakers of subject-prominent languages, like English, often repeat clause-initial pro-forms when speaking Chinese. However, it is unclear how the speakers of topic-prominent languages, such as Korean and Chinese, acquire zero-anaphora of second language. We investigated whether Korean- and Chinese-speakers naturally delete pro-forms when learning each other’s language and analyzing their writing and speaking. If positive transfer occurs when they acquire topic-related deletion, then written and spoken deletion should be similar. However, zero-anaphora emerging differently between written and spoken words must be a result of various cognitive strategies not affected by positive transfer. We observed 20 Korean- and 12 Chinese-learners for six months. All Chinese- and Korean-learners could delete topic-related pronouns in written text. Unlike English-speaking Chinese-learners, deletion occurred by positive transfer among Chinese-speaking Korean-learners and vice versa. Further, although the written task preceded the oral task, the participants deleted more pronouns in the written task. We think that learners switch codes using different strategies while writing and speaking. A psychological mechanism, not grammatical knowledge, plays a role: learners repeat pronouns to buy time to improve their discourse, in a so-called ‘recharging strategy’.

      • Enhancement of long-chain fatty acid production in Escherichia coli by coexpressing genes, including fabF, involved in the elongation cycle of fatty acid biosynthesis.

Lee, Seunghan,Lee, Sunhee,Yoon, Yeo Joon,Lee, Jinwon Humana Press 2013 Applied biochemistry and biotechnology Vol.169 No.2

The goal of this study was to increase the production of long-chain fatty acids and to change the composition of fatty acids through the overexpression of genes involved in the fatty acid synthase (FAS) pathway and utilizing characteristics of a specific gene, namely, fabF. The four genes, fabB, fabG, fabZ, and fabI, are Escherichia coli homologues and function in the elongation cycle of fatty acid biosynthesis. FabB (fabB), an activator of FAS, is a β-oxoacyl-ACP synthase, which catalyzes the addition of acyl-ACP to malonyl-ACP to generate β-oxoacyl-ACP. FabF (fabF) participates at the same step as FabB in the elongation cycle and is structurally and functionally similar to FabB. Hence, we attempted to see if FabF was an activator of FAS, like FabB, with the rationale that these two enzymes have striking similarities. FabF exhibits thermal regulation in that enzyme activity increases at lower temperatures. To confirm its role as an activator of FAS, fabF was overexpressed solely or with other genes in the elongation cycle through biochemical engineering. The fabF recombinants were cultured at different temperatures, resulting in increased total and unsaturated fatty acid accumulation in all the recombinants, compared to wild type, at lower temperatures.
