        벼 생육 및 수집에 대한 대체농자재의 영향

        본 시험은 환경농업기술을 직접 농가에 파급시킬 목적으로 3년간('96~'98)수행하였던 연구결과를 토대로 1999년에 환경농업 시범마을인 남원시 대강면 방산리의 일반농가포장에서 수행한 결과이다. 계분 발효퇴비와 깻묵을 시용한 환경농업과 절충형농업 시험구의 벼 생육은 화학비료를 시용한 일반관행농업 시험구에 비하여 저조하였으며, 왕우렁이(Ampullarius insularus)를 이용한 잡초방제 효과는 제초제 2회(초·중기)살포효과보다 우수하였다. 목초액의 병해충 방제효과는 저조하였고 또한 환경농업과 절충형농업 시험구의 정조수량은 일반관행농업 시험구에 비하여 3~5% 감소 되였다. 수질은 환경농업과 절충형농업 시험구가 일반관행농업 시험구에 비하여 COD, NO₃-N, SO₄^(2-), Cl^(-)이 낮았으며, 물벼룩의 밀도는 높았다. The aim of this study was to apply the new agricultural technique developed for three years(96-98) by demonstration at an model farm of environmental agriculture located in Bangsan-ri, Dagang-myun, Namwon-city. Rice growth of environmental farming plot, which supplied with oil cake and compost fermented with chicken manure was reduced compared to that of conventional farming plot, which supplied with chemical fertilizers. Weed control by using of Ampullarius insularus in the rice paddy field was effective compared to that of control, which treated with chemical herbicide twice. The yield of rice was decreased of 3-5% in both environmental and eclectic farming good compared to that of conventional farming plot. The water quality of environmental not and eclectic farming plot were good compared to conventional farming plot. Density of water flea was high in environmental and eclectic farming plot compared to that of the conventional farming plot.

      • Coacervation-상분리법으로 만든 Ethyl Cellulose 마이크로캅셀의 Glibenclamide 방출특성 및 수용성 첨가제의 영향

        Glibenclamide (GBC) is a well-known antidiabetic agent, which stimulates the secretion of endogenous insulin by pancreatic βcells. However, administration of GBC at a high dose can occasionally induced the fatal hypoglycemia, especially in the patients with impaired liver function. Therefore, in order to develop an oral sustained-release preparation which reduces the side effect, microcapsulation of GBC has been carried out in this experiment. Microcapsules of GBC were prepared by coacervation-phase separation method with ethylcellulose as a wall-forming material in cyclohexane, using polyisobutylene as a coacervation-inducing agent. Different amounts of hydrophilic additives. L-arginine(ARG) and polyethylene glycol 4000 (PEG), were added to the microcapsule wall, in order to alter the porosity of the wall and hence to enhance the release of the core material. The microcapsules prepared were examined for physical properties by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and particle size analysis. The release of the poorly water-soluble GBC was found to be very slow from the microcapsules and strongly dependent on the core to wall ratio of the microcapsules, but it was accelerated considerably with increasing amount of PEG or ARG. In general, on the basis of dissolution kinetics, GBC releases from microcapsules were followed apparent first-order kinetics, while the dissolution data of GBC powder conformed to Hixon-Crowell's cube root law. Therefore, in conclusion, it might be possible to design the sustained-release formulation by the combination of both GBC powder and microcapsules of different core wall ratio with or without hydrophilic additives.

        감자 "추백"에 발생한 Tobacco mosaic virus의 특성

        An isolate of Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) was isolated from potato cultivar ``Chubak`` showing vein clearing and mild mosaic at Namhae in Korea. This isolate, TMV-St, was differentiated from other tobamoviruses based on biological properties, serological relationships and nucleotide sequence analyses of coat protein genes. TMV-St caused typical symptoms on four indicator plants as compared to the tobamovirus of TMVU1, Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV), and Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV), which caused economic losses in Solanaceous vegetables, tomato, pepper, and eggplant. Remarkably, the TMV-St induced distinctly different symptom of systemic chlorotic spots on Chenophodium murale. On C. murale, Gomphorena globosa, and Nicotiana rustica, the four viruses were classed by the virulence of systemic or local infections. In serological test TMV-St antiserum showed a precipitation line with each other tabamovirus. The CP gene of TMV-St contain 477 nucleotides, and the nucleotides sequence was the most similar to that of TMV-U1.

        A Lingua Franca Model as a Potential English Education Framework in Korea

        The present study explores Korean college students’ understanding of and attitudes towards different English teaching models as proposed by Kirkpatrick (2006). The models were a native speaker model, a nativized model, and a lingua franca model. Incorporating a qualitative study (Bogdan & Biklen, 1998), I collected data through students’ one-time reflection papers and conducted a qualitative analysis of the data. The findings show that slightly more than half of the students considered the native speaker model to be the most appropriate English education framework in Korea due to its historical dominance and because the current Korean sociocultural milieu values Inner Circle Englishes and native speaker standards exclusively. Despite the preference of a relatively large number of students for the native speaker model, the lingua franca model was also positively perceived. The students who thought highly of the lingua franca model believed that the model may bring to an end to the negativity associated with the current English learning atmosphere in Korea. The present study highlights the need to expand the horizons of the Korean English education paradigm and to make the construct of English as a lingua franca and the lingua franca model available in the discourse of English education in Korea.

        University Students’ Perceptions of English Teachers in Korea : Korean Bilingual Teachers of English and Native English-Speaking Teachers

        The study examines the way university students in Korea understand different types of English teachers and who they believe to be most suitable for contemporary Korean society. Working within a qualitative research paradigm (Bogdan & Biklen, 1998), I gathered data through students’ reflection papers and analyzed them using a qualitative data analysis method. The findings demonstrate that the majority of the students regarded Korean bilingual teachers of English (KBTEs) as the most appropriate teachers in the Korean context given their expertise in the exam-oriented English education of Korea. KBTEs’ previous English learning experiences and their ability to predict learners’ challenges were also positively perceived. The students further thought highly of KBTEs’ knowledge of the Korean language and culture. Several students considered native English-speaking teachers (NESTs) to be most proper, noting the societal endorsement of NESTs as the only legitimate type of English teacher in Korea. A few students reported that both KBTEs and NESTs were necessary, believing that these two types of teachers differ in their expertise. Despite the overall favorable attitude toward KBTEs among university students, quite a few of them showed their belief in the superiority of NESTs, suggesting the need for KBTEs to gain oversees experience and a high level of English proficiency before they can be considered as qualified as NESTs. Educational implications for both teachers and learners of English are discussed.

        English as an Instructional Medium in Korean Higher Education : Focusing on the Perspectives of Professors

        The study explores the way professors working in a private university in Korea perceive the recent English-medium instruction (EMI) frenzy in Korean higher education (HE) and the way they respond to its manifestation at their institution. Working within a qualitative research paradigm (Merriam, 2009), I gathered data primarily via one-time semi-structured interviews with ten participants who have offered or are offering EMI at the time of data collection and used a qualitative data analysis method. The findings illustrate that the professors view external factors residing outside individual universities, such as the college rankings and the university evaluation parameters, as the principal drive behind the current EMI boom in Korean tertiary education. Acknowledging the importance of strengthening the international competitive edge of Korean HE in the global era, the professors perceive the EMI policy positively expecting it to be beneficial for both students and institutions. They, however, problematize the blind acceptance of EMI policy and externally forced EMI expansion movement in Korean HE, which they believe will lower the standard of the academic experience of students. Experiencing first-hand the inadequate manifestation of the EMI policy at their university, the professors claim that a systematic long-term implementation plan and context-suitable approaches should be taken at both the national and institutional level for successful future EMI implementation and expansion efforts.

        Developing Preservice EFL Teachers’ Pedagogical Competence through Lesson Planning

        This qualitative case study explored how the lesson planning experience of eight EFL preservice teachers in a content class on critical literacy was intricately related not only to their reconceptualization of lesson preparation and teacher work, but also to the development of their pedagogical competence. Data were collected from multiple reflection papers, a one-time interview, the final lesson plan, and the researcher’s reflection log, and were qualitatively analyzed. The findings indicate that the preservice teachers’ engagement with lesson preparation promoted a renewed understanding of lesson planning as a complex and dynamic process requiring coherent pedagogical reasoning on the part of a teacher, building on an initial conception of technical knowledge alone. Devising a lesson plan further served to enrich their theoretical understanding of critical literacy and improve their abilities as critical readers. In addition, throughout the lesson planning phase, the preservice teachers engaged in an active process of searching for effective ways to represent the content for students’ successful learning, which contributed to the development of their pedagogical content knowledge. The findings of this study highlight the importance of engaging preservice teachers in planning practice during their initial teacher education to enhance their professional knowledge base.
