• Making rational choice in utilizing maternal service: a qualitative study in Lao PDR

( Ngan Kim Do ),( Minah Kang ),( Chaeun Lee ),( Sychareun Vanphanom ) 한국정책학회 2013 한국정책학회 학술대회 Vol.2013 No.2

Lack of knowledge and understanding of women and their family members on the benefit of maternal care services is presumed to be a major determinant of mothers` decision to utilize health facilities and skilled birth attendants. This study investigated the perspective of women and their family on maternal health services in Lao PDR to determine their rationality in service utilization ignorance. A qualitative study (n=99) was conducted in Xiengkhouang province, located in the North-East of Lao PDR. Data was collected through 36 semi-structured individual interviews and 24 focus group interviews with mothers, spouses and elderly women from both rural and non-rural areas. Not only women and their spouses but also the elderly recognize the benefit of modern maternal services compared to traditional practices. However, the maternal health services are not well utilized in Lao PDR. The main deterrent factor is not poor recognition but low quality and availability of services at the community level, and low level of satisfaction when utilizing services.

      • Synthesis and characterization of homogeneously sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) membranes: Effect of casting solvent

Do, Khanh Ngan T.,Kim, Dukjoon Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2008 Journal of applied polymer science Vol.110 No.3

Poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) was homogeneously sulfonated to have various degrees of sulfonation from 48 to 83%. The sulfonated PEEK (sPEEK) membranes were prepared by a solvent casting method using a few solvents such as N,N-dimethyl formamide, N,N-dimethyl acetamide, and 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone. The effect of casting solvent on the membrane morphology and properties was investigated. The sulfonation degree and ion exchange capacity were determined by a back titration method, and the morphology of membrane by SEM. It has been demonstrated that the surface morphology and properties of sPEEK membranes, such as water uptake, methanol permeability, ion conductivity, and mechanical strength, were considerably affected by the type of solvent, where the DMAC-sPEEK system showed the best performance in the polymer electrolyte membrane application for DMFC. This solvent effect on the membrane morphology and properties was caused by interaction strength (hydrogen bonding) between polymer and solvent. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. • Development of a new cementless binder for marine dredged soil stabilization: Strength behavior, hydraulic resistance capacity, microstructural analysis, and environmental impact

        Do, Tan Manh,Kang, Gyeongo,Vu, Ngan,Kim, Young-sang Elsevier 2018 Construction & building materials Vol.186 No.-

Abstract

The primary goal of this study is to evaluate the strength behavior, hydraulic resistance capacity, microstructure, and environmental impact of marine dredged soil (MDS) after stabilization and its improvement without the use of cement. In this study, a new cementless binder, referred to as Fa-RmLG, was derived from fly ash (Fa), lime (L), gypsum (G), and red mud (Rm). During the MDS stabilization stage, a pilot experimental program (phase I) was conducted to identify the optimum water content in mixtures. Subsequently, MDS mixtures were synthesized with various proportions of Fa-RmLG, and the optimum water contents were determined (phase II). The general properties of MDS mixtures, including strength, stiffness (evidenced by the secant modulus), and hydraulic resistance capacity (e.g., critical shear stress, critical velocity, and scour rate), microstructure, and environmental impact (e.g., corrosivity, heavy metals), were measured. As a result, all general properties of the stabilized MDS mixtures demonstrated significant improvements (strength, stiffness, and hydraulic resistance capacity) as compared to those of the untreated MDS. In addition, in terms of environmental impact, it was found that the hardened MDS mixtures made with the new cementless binder were classified as nonhazardous materials as their corrosivity and heavy metal leachates were within the acceptable ranges listed in the Code of Federal Regulations of the US government (40 CFR 268.40). In conclusion, the feasibility of using the developed Fa-RmLG binder for the stabilization of MDS has been proven.

Highlights

A new cementless binder is developed for marine dredged soil (MDS) stabilization.

General properties of the stabilized MDS mixtures showed significant improvements.

The proposed MDS mixtures are classified as non-hazardous materials.

The newly developed binder can be used to replace cement in the MDS stabilization.

Optimization-based integrated decision model for smart resource management in the petrochemical industry

권휘웅,Thai Ngan Do,Jiyong Kim 한국공업화학회 2022 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.113 No.-

In this study, a new decision-supporting platform for the overall supply chain management of the petrochemicalindustries was proposed to maximize business profits. The proposed system integrates variousdecision-supporting models that address the critical challenges, both vertically and horizontally. Specifically, horizontal integration includes various decision-based problems along with the productiveflow on the value chain from raw material purchasing and manufacturing to the final product sales, whilevertical integration involves critical decisions at different levels, including the enterprise supply chain, the plant scheduling/planning, and the process operation. The optimization-based decision platformeffectively supports the business’s supply chain management, plant planning, and process operationstrategy. The platform integrates different decision and featuring models, including a price predictionand a paper trading model for reducing the financial risks, a mathematical model of naphtha thermalcracker for identifying the optimal operating, and an optimization model for maximizing business profits. As a result, business profit was improved by 5.30% with only paper trade optimization, 6.67% with optimaloperating conditions combined with price forecasting, and 11.98% with overall supply chain optimization. Thereby, the proposed platform assists decision-makers in determining the timing andquantity of raw material purchases and final product sales, as well as the operation strategies for processfacilities, utilities, and inventory management. This study could be used to aid in the establishment ofannual planning and scheduling as an auxiliary indicator for business operations.

Factors Affecting Mobile Payment Acceptance and Intention: A Case Study of Hospitality Customers in Vietnam

Dinh Tram Anh PHAN,Thi Thuy Ngan NGUYEN,Thi Khanh Nhi NGUYEN,Tran Thien An NGUYEN,Van Si Dan PHAN,Ngoc Phuong Thao HO,Kim Xuan DO,Trong Luan NGUYEN 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.5

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the Vietnamese economy. In the midst of a complex disease that compelled people to limit their interaction, customers’ shopping habits shifted from “offline” to “online” transactions. Mobile payments have also grown in popularity. The goal of this study is to figure out what factors influence the use of mobile payments by hotel clients in Can Tho after COVID-19. The research team also examines how those factors influence customers’ willingness to use mobile payment and makes recommendations to better the current situation. Primary data was collected from 227 persons using online surveys and processed with SPSS software for this study. To analyze the correlation relationship between the elements determining the intention to use, the Cronbach alpha, EFA, Correlation, and Regression methods used to assess the scale are applied. Perceived Trustworthiness, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Ease of Use all have positive effects on customers’ propensity to use, according to the findings. Perceived Security, on the other hand, has no bearing. The findings of this study have significant theoretical and practical implications for the development of mobile payment services in Can Tho, particularly following the implementation of COVID-19.
