Objective The aim of the study was to develop the Korean Psychological Autopsy Checklist for Adolescent (K-PAC-A) and conduct a pilot study. Methods A number of steps were undertaken in the development of the K-PAC-A including literature reviews, consultations, and a pilot study. The Korean psychology autopsy checklist 2.0 (K-PAC 2.0) was carefully reviewed to adopt some domains and questions which can be applied to adolescents. Results In addition to the adoption of some domains and questions from the K-PAC 2.0, some items were developed by considering the risk factors shown in the previous studies and cultural factors including family-based and school-based problems. A pilot study was conducted in collaboration with Eulji hospital, and Suicide and School Mental Health Institute of Hallym University and 5 cases of adolescent suicide victims were recruited. A final version of the K-PAC-A consists of three domains; a bereaved family (informants), a decedent, and psychological assessments. Conclusion An adolescent psychological autopsy study using the K-PAC-A is expected to provide useful evidence for suicide prevention policies and intervention plans for Korean youths in the future.
Gap formation and susceptible Abies trees to windthrow in the forests of Odaesan National Park

Extremely strong winds and heavy rainfall caused canopy gaps in a mixed Abies holophylla broadleaf forest and a Quercus mongolica-dominated forest in Odaesan National Park, Korea in October 2006. The impact of the combination of strong winds and torrential rain on the development of forest gaps and canopy structures were investigated. The mean size of newly created gaps were $205m^2$ in the mixed forest and $86m^2$ in the Quercus forest, and were created by 2.8 and 1.4 gapmaker trees, respectively. Among the 73 trees lost in the mixed forest, 59% succumbed because of direct wind damage while 41% were struck by neighboring trees that fell into them. Most of these trees downed by wind were uprooted (74%), while the trees downed by neighboring tree falls snapped (78%). 21 trees in the Quercus forest died from direct wind damage, and 57% of them were uprooted. Although the relative density of Abies nephrolepis and A. holophylla represented only 0.2% and 6.4%, respectively, of all species in the intact mixed forest, they accounted for 27% and 15%, respectively, of all trees affected by wind on that site. In fact, 85% of the total A. nephrolepis and 91% of the total A. holophylla in the mixed forest fell directly due to strong wind. By contrast, only one Abies species, A. nephrolepis, was found in the Quercusdominated forest, and it accounted for 7.3% of the species composition. These findings suggest that A. nephrolepis and A. holophylla are particularly susceptible to high winds because of their great heights and shallow root systems.
PDStat : Statistical approach to protein domain frequency in various tissues and tumor

Protein domain은 단백질의 구조적, 기능적, 진화적 단위로 domain 빈도에 대한 분석을 통해 특정 유전자 그룹에 대한 특성 규명이 가능하다. 여기서는 Tigr TC sequence를 tumor 및 tissue 조직별로 분류하여 나타나는 domain의 빈도를 Zipf's law, Fisher exact test, bootstrapping과 같은 통계적 방법을 이용하여 분석함으로써 tumor 및 tissue 조직별 특이적인 domain을 찾고자 하였다. 그 결과 NIC, DUF890, TLE_N과 같은 tumor specific protein domain들을 규명할 수 있었다. Protein domains are the structural, functional and evolutionary units of proteins. A protein can be regarded as a sequence of its domains. Counting protein domain in a set of data, although it is a low level representation and classification, reveals a fundamental characteristic of the data.
Clinical Outcomes of Renal Pelvis Dilatation in Very Low Birth Weight Infants

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate this clinical outcome of neonatal pelvis dilatation in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. Methods: The medical records of 127 VLBW infants admitted to two neonatal intensive care units from January 2012 to December 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. Renal pelvis dilatation was diagnosed via ultrasound examination with cases divided into 3 groups: mild (dilatation of 5-10 mm), moderate (11-15 mm) and severe (≥15 mm). The correlation between the 3 dilatation groups and progression into hydronephrosis was evaluated. Results: Among the 127 premature infants, renal pelvis dilatation was identified in 29 (22.8%) on ultrasound examination performed, on average 13.3 days after birth, combined with calyceal ectasia in 5 (3.9%) infants. At a postmenstrual age of 40 weeks, 18 infants (14.2%) had renal pelvis dilatation, 6 (5%) infants accompanied by a dilatation of the calyx. On the last follow-up performed when children were not older than 2 years old, renal pelvis dilatation had resolved to within normal limits in 23 (79%) infants while persisting in 6 (21%) infants; 1 mild, 3 moderate, and 2 severe pelvis dilatation. The median time-to-recovery of dilatation was 10.5 months (Kaplan-Meier curve), regardless of the severity of dilatation at birth. Based on receiver operating curve analysis, a cutoff diameter of renal dilatation at birth of 11.35 mm predicted persisting severe dilatation at the final follow-up (sensitivity 83.3%, specificity 82.6%). Conclusion: Although premature infants with dilatation of mild severity were all recovered, some of those with moderate-to-severe dilatation progressed to hydronephrosis. Therefore careful follow-up of premature infants with renal pelvis dilatation is recommended.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, an electronically modified Pd nanocatalyst supported on nitrogen-doped carbon (<B>Pd/N–C</B>) was synthesized by a facile, scalable synthetic method. The electronic interaction between the nitrogen atoms incorporated into the carbon support and Pd active sites, as evidenced by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), resulted in the formation of electron-rich Pd sites. The resulting Pd catalyst demonstrated enhancement in catalytic activity for the dehydrogenation of formic acid via the activation of C–H bonds in H–COOH. Finally, a hydrogen generation system fueled by formic acid was designed and further integrated with a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stack for the successful demonstration of stable, practical production of hydrogen, generating a fuel cell power of 180 W over 1 h without noticeable catalytic deactivation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Efficient formic acid (FA) dehydrogenation is demonstrated using Pd nanocrystals. </LI> <LI> Electronically modified <B>Pd/N–C</B> catalysts are synthesized by a scalable method. </LI> <LI> Nitrogen atoms doped to carbon enhance the metal-support interactions of Pd/N-C. </LI> <LI> FA dehydrogenation system is employed to power a 200 W PEMFC over 1 h. </LI> </UL> </P>

<P>We have prepared photopolymer compositions for holographic data storage system from aromatic diacrylate having fluorine moiety, a hybrid sol-gel, and photoinitiator. The fluorenyl diacrylate monomer was synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reaction of fluorene diphenol with an excess of 2-chloroethoxyethanol, followed by the reaction with acryloyl chloride. The physical and holographic properties of photopolymer were controlled by the ratio of precursor triethoxysilylpropyl polyethyleneglycol carbamate (TSPEG) in a hybrid sol-gel binder and the content of monomer. Also, we measured the photopolymerization rate and conversion of monomer by photo-differential scanning calorimeter (photo-DSC). Holographic recording was attempted by photopolymerization of the monomers in the photopolymer film using a 532 nm laser light in the presence of Irgacure 784 and holographic gratings were recorded into the photopolymer films by interfering two collimated plane wave beams. Contents of monomer and TSPEG were changed in the range of 0.25-1.0 equiv. and the composition were optimized in terms of diffraction efficiency. Finally, we obtained that efficient photopolymer films showed diffraction efficiency of 78% when 0.5 equiv. of TESPEG in sol-gel binder and 40% of compound 4 were added.</P>
