      • Effect of Ionizing Radiation on Rat Tissue: Proteomic and Biochemical Analysis

        <P>Reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated by ionizing radiation, has been implicated in its effect on living tissues. We confirmed the changes in the oxidative stress markers upon irradiation. We characterized the changes in the proteome profile in rat liver after administering irradiation, and the affected proteins were identified by MALDI-TOF-MS and ESI-MS/MS. The identified proteins represent diverse sets of proteins participating in the cellular metabolism. Our results demonstrated that proteomics analysis is a useful method for characterization of a global proteome change caused by ionizing radiation to unravel the molecular mechanisms involved in the cellular responses to ionizing radiation.</P>

      • 병원간호사의 노동조합에 대한 태도와 간호전문직관에 관한 연구

        In studies on the hospital labor-management relations, research about the attitudes of workers and management toward unions was relatively untouched in Korea. This study was investigated to identify the relation between attitudes toward unions and views on nursing profession among unrses. Data was obtained from a convenience sample of 285 nurses in different positions, education, career, status of union member. The results of this study were as follows: 1. There were significant differences between nurses' position and status of union member and attitudes toward unions(p<.05) 2. Nurses with master's degree had significantly lower views on nursing profession(p<.05). 3. There were significant differences between nurses' employed hospital and attitudes toward union(p<.05). 4. There were correlation between attitudes toward unions and views on nursing profession(r=.16). The findings of this study suggest that antecedents and moderating variables of attitudes toward unions and views on nursing profession need to be explored for further theoretical specification and empirical evaluation. As the results, it is important that lablr and management make a reciprocal relations. And labor-management relations will be stabilized and more cooperative.

      • 에폭시/TETA계의 경화 및 물성 연구

        The curing of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) with triethyl-enetetramine (TETA) under controlled thermal conditions was discussed. A real-time FT-IR ATR was employed to determine crosslinking reactions and degree of cure. Infrared 914cm^(-1) band was used to monitor the conversion of the reactions. To measure the thermal mechanical properties of the various systems, DMTA was employed. Results of ATR and DMTA data show that optimum TETA/DGEBA ratio was about 0.1. When the ratio was higer than 0.1. a phase separation was occurred with short pot life. It is demonstrated that real-time FT-IR ATR is powerful technique to better understand the formulation-process-property relationship of the Epoxy ITETA system.

        UV-Curable acryl monomer containing quaternary ammonium salt has been synthesised and Introduced into the orintal lacquer by dual curing method. Electrical and thermal mechanical properties were studied in view of the interpenetrating polymer network theory. Although modification of oriental lacquer could not introduce antistatic properties into coating network, tremendous improvement in the properties of breaking voltage was observed.

        일 대학 병원 마취 · 회복실 간호사의 간호활동 분석

        Purpose: This study was aimed to specify roles of nurses from the anesthesia and recovery room by analyzing nursing activities as well as anesthesia nursing during surgery. Method: The objects were 12 RNs working in the recovery room of a university hospital located in Incheon. Self-report was performed by measuring stop-watch for five days from May 17th to May 21st in 2004. Research method was designed to record the time and frequency of the nursing activity from anesthesia and recovery room based on nurses' statement and other references for five days. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and t-test via SPSS Win 10.0 program. Result: Nursing activities in anesthesia recovery room were classified into two different characteristics such as direct and indirect nursing activity. The activities consisted of 11 direct nursing areas and 39 nursing activities in anesthesia preparation room. The indirect nursing was classified into 8 nursing areas and 32 nursing activities. The direct nursing was classified into 12 nursing areas and 55 nursing activity. Also, the indirect nursing was classified into 7 nursing areas and 21 nursing activities in recovery room. In terms of prevalence of nursing activities in the anesthesia preparation room, observation and cooperation of anesthesia was the most prevalent activity, drug and eqipment management the second prevalent, and drug administration the third. On the other hand, in the recovery room, the most prevalent activity was vital sign checking and observation, the second most prevalent activity informative activity, and the third body temperature control. Nursing activity time was recorded according to the nursing characteristics. In the anesthesia preparation room, the direct nursing spent for 8092.20 minutes was larger than the indirect nursing spent for 7198.50 minutes. Also, in the recovery room, the direct nursing spent for 2361.16 minutes was larger than the indirect nursing spent for 1134.13 minutes. 4. Nursing activity time was compared to duty shifts. In the anesthesia preparation room, the direct nursing was more prevalent on day shift and the indirect nursing was prevalent on evening shift. However, in the recovery room, both direct and indirect nursing activities were prevalent on day shift. Conclusion: The role of anesthesia and recovery room nurses was analysed according to the time, frequency, and its characteristics.

      • Real-Time IR을 이용한 Polyesterimide의 경화거동 연구

        Polyesterimide for enamel Wire coating was synthesized and its curing reaction was monitored by real-time FT-IR. Infrared 1019cm^(-1) band was used to monitor the curing process. Results of in-situ analysis showed that evaporation of ethylene glycol and transesterification started from 100℃. When curing temperature was higher than 200℃, ester reaction was favored over the ether reaction. It was concluded that curing temperature is the key factor to control the thermal stability of the enamel wire coating.

        This study was conducted to examine middleㆍhigh school 720 students in seven regions of middleㆍsmall city and town, Myon for 2 months from March 2 through April 30, 2002 in order to realize a side of school health education in middleㆍhigh school and health education need as well as health education specialist in school in the future. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Health condition is now 'normal' is 51.0%, 'good' is 45.0%, 'not good' is 4.1% and health condition of children is good as much as education level of mother is higher. 2. Experience to learn health education in school for one year recently is 'no' is 39.6%, 'don't know' is 32.6%, 'yes' is 27.8% and it represents health education in school doesn't work well and experience to learn health education is lower and lower in town and Myon. 3. Health education ways to work in school now are 'Movie, Video, Slide' is 40.7%, 'education as groups of nurse-teacher' is 38.6%, 'to distribute health education material and book' is 7.7%, 'education by setting an example' is 3.4%, 'the others' is 9.7%. 4. Time of appropriate health education for one time is 'about a hour' is 56.7%, 'about 30 minute' is 33.8%, 'about two hour' is 7.6%, it represents this situation is because of what students' time is lack and burden about a curriculum in an education administratin and school classed of a focused school score. 5. The average score of satisfaction of health education in school is 16.99±0.58, 'men' is 1.79±0.60, 'women' is 1.61±0.55 as the distinction of sex, satisfaction level of men is higher than women. 6. Learning route about health information is 'through mass media' is 59.9%. 'through family, friend' is 15.0% 'health education lecture' is 7.2%, 'printing media' is 6.1%, 'medical institution' is 5.6%, 'the others' is 5.1%, 'public health center' is 1.0%, 'through mass media' is the highest percent as each 59.1% and 60.6% in all of men and women. 7. The most efficient education way of health education is 'movie, video, slide' is 32.6%, 'health education specialist who works school' is 21.9%, 'school health education by nurse-teacher' is 16.0%, 'way through mass communication' is 11.6%. 8. The appropriate health education specialist in the future is 'health education specialist who has qualifications' is the highest as 64.5%, 'nurse-teacher' is 12.4%, 'medical personnel(doctor, a physician of oriental medicine etc.,)' is 11.0%, 'staff in public health center' is 7.2%, people in other regions(health and medical professor etc.,) is 7.0%, it represents school health education is not actual and is formal now in second hand. 9. The most necessary health education program is 'program of stress solution' is the highest as 24.9%, 'program of no smoking' is 22.7%, 'sexual education program' is 19.8%, 'school violence program' is 8.8%, 'isolate from their friends prevention program' is 8.0%, solution program of stress which gives student by school score was very necessary. Therefore, school health education is formal and inefficient because school education focuses on an entrance exam, so middleㆍhigh school students decrease concern and interest about health education. Furthermore, reliance is gotten down about nurse-teacher who takes charge of school health, a charged person of school health education wants more chargeable health education staff. And a solution program of stress that gives students by school score was very necessary. According to active concern and planned, systematic school health education is necessary to give right health knowledge, health maintenanceㆍpromotion and setting of appropriate health education specialist is very urgent.

        열공형과 비열공형 피질하 혈관성 치매에서 위험인자의 차이에 관한 비교 연구

        Backgrounds and Objectives: Vascular dementia is a group of dementing disoders arising from various stroke syndrome. Among these. subcortical ischemic vascular dementia (SIVD) is regarded as a relatively distinct clinical entity. However, MRI patterns of SIVD are not homogenous. In some patients, lacunes are dominant, and in others, subcortical white matter changes are. This study was designed to compare risk factor profiles between SIVD with and without multiple lacunes. Methods: We divided 47 subjects (22 males, mean age. 68 years) recruited from VADAPET (Multicenter Trial For Evaluation Of The Changes In the PET Images Of Subcortical Vascular Dementia Patient) study into two groups one with more than 5 lacunes in deep gray matter (lacune group) and the other with 5 or less(non-lacune group) Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of two groups were compared. Results: Nineteen of 47 patients (40%) belonged to the lacune group. The lacune and non-lacune groups d d not differ in the following variables: age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia heart disease, history of stroke or TIA, history of trauma or major surgery, family history of hypertension stroke, or dementia, age at diagnosis of dementia, body mass index, white blood cell count, ESR, CRP, fibrinogen, hemoglobin A1C, total cholesterol. LDL cholesterol creatinine, proteinuria, glucosuria, and microhematuria. However, male sex, smoking alcohol. hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were possibly associated more with lacune group SIVD than with non-lacune group (p<0 1) Multivariate analyses revealed that smoking, hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were independent predictors of SIVD with multiple lacunes Conclusion: Our study suggests that SIVD with multiple lacunes may be significantly different in smoking habits hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol from SIVD without multiple lacunes.

        Angiogenesis Inhibitor Derived from Angiostatin Active Sites

        Angiogenesis is essential for the growth and persistence of solid tumors. Their metastases, anti-angiogenesis could lead to the suppression of tumor growth. One of the main strategies of cancer treatment is developing molecules of anti-angiogenic activity. In this study, two angiogenic inhibitors, Ang3 (KLFDF) and Ang4 (XLFDF) derived from KLYDY, which is the sequence of angiostatin active sites kringle 5, were designed and synthesized. Previously we reported the activities and structures of two inhibitors, Ang1 (KLYDY) and Ang2 (KLWDF). In order to investigate the effect of Phe substitution, Ang3 was designed with a sequence of KLFDF. In order to reduce conformational flexibility of side chain in Lys, Ang4 was designed with a sequence of XLFDF, where X has amino substituted phenyl ring. Solution structures of those inhibitors were investigated using NMR spectroscopy and their activities as angiogenesis inhibitors were studied. Ang1 and Ang2 show angiogenic activities, while Ang3 and Ang4 have no activities and have extended structures compared to Ang1 and Ang2. Therefore, Phe rings do not have effective hydrophobic interactions with other aromatic residues in Ang3 and Ang4. The representative structure of Ang2 has a stable intramolecular hydrogen bond. Therefore, intramolecular hydrogen bonding might be more important in stabilizing the structure than the hydrophobic interactions in these inhibitors. More rigid structure, which can be expected to have higher activities and better match with the receptor bound conformations, can be obtained with a constrained cyclic structure. Further peptidomimetic approaches should be tried to develop angiogenesis inhibitors.

        Inhibitory Effects of Panaxatriol from Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer on Phosphoinositide Breakdown Induced by Thrombin in Platelets

        In this study, we have investigated the effect of panaxatriol (PT) on phosphoinositides (PIS) breakdown and $Ca^{2+}$-elevation in thrombin-induced platelet aggregation. Thrombin (5U/ml), a potent platelet agonist which activates phospholipase $C_{\beta}$ via protease activated receptor (PAR), hydrolyzed PIS in platelet membrane. The phosphatidylinositol 4, 5-bisphosphate $(PIP_2)$ was hydrolyzed after 10 sec of the thrombin-stimulation, and both the phosphatidylinositol 4-monophosphate (PIP) and phosphatidylinositol (PI) were brokendown after 30 sec of the thrombin-stimulation. However, PT inhibited the thrombin-stimulated hydrolysis of $PIP_2$, PIP, and PI. On the other hand, thrombin increased the level of phosphatidic acid (PA) which is phosphorylated from diacylglycerol (DG) generated by PIS-hydrolysis. However, Pr inhibited the thrombin-increased PA level non-significantly. Thrombin increased cytosolic free $Ca^{2+}([Ca^{2+}])_i$) up to 72% as compared with control $(30.8{\pm}0.9 nM)$ in intact platelet. However, PT (100 ${\mu}g/ml$) inhibited the thrombin-elevated $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ to 100%. These results suggest that PT may have a beneficial effect on platelet aggregation-mediated thrombotic disease by inhibiting thrombin-induced platelet aggregation via suppression of the $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ level and PIS breakdown.
