The Realization of Dream in J. M. Synge's Works: The Playboy of the Western World and The Shadow of the Glen

The purpose of this paper is to examine the process of the protagonists overcoming various sufferings and changing dream into reality. Synge considers nature and creatures as a background in harmony with his plays and a part of the same creation as man himself. For example, nature gives him surprising source of imaginary throughout The Playboy of the Western World. Synge was inspired by the Aran Islands for writing the plots of In The Shadow of the Glen and The Playboy of the Western World. Christy is depicted as attractive and passionate, while Shawn is shown to be boring The Playboy of the Western World. So She is soon in love with Christy. The conflicts between passion and reason, and between love and hate make this play a rich dramatic experience. The growth of Christy is symbolized by the release of sleeping poet within Christy, who first discovers his poetic powers in the telling of his murder. Christy changes from a helpless lad under the oppression of his father to the playboy of the western world in the reality. Nora takes pity on Dan and Michael who are tied to materialism. Michael's avaricious interest in tangible wealth aligns him with Dan. Because she longs for escaping from material stability into the free and brisk life. Nora recognizes that tramp enjoys an abundant life despite his unstable life of traveling around. The tramp is a poet who resists against the existing society in this play. Synge tries to find out the poetical world through his works. No one can escape from getting old and death. Synge endeavors to tell readers to overcome sufferings by adapting himself to enjoy the beauty of nature and accept death as a part of life.

One of the most important constraints in Yakut is connected with syllabic structure. Its syllabic structure is based on CV. So the constraint of "NoGeminates" is strictly applied. And the harmony between features is also considered important. Yakut has the strict constraint on the phonotactical relations. In Yakut a feature [constricted glottis] works more vigorously than [voiced]. This feature is combined with a feature [+back] or [+lab], making new constraints on the initial place: *#[+back, -CG], *# [+lab,+CG]. Finally, consonantal assimilation in obstruents of Yakut is dominated by 2 lows of constraints. Moral Growth in The Scarlet Letter

The purpose of this paper is to examine the main characters' moral growth in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The background of this novel is the 17th century. The theme of this work is the psychological effect and result of prejudice, and the sense of pride. Hester, the worst sinner in the early Puritan society, committed adultery, and Dimmesdale is not only Hester's adulterer but also a hypocritical sinner. His flaw is his inability to publicly acknowledge that he committed adultery with Hester and is the father of Pearl. Dimmesdale hated himself for that sin, and he accomplished victory over his weakness after seven long years of struggle. After he delivered a magnificent sermon, he confessed on the scaffold to his sin. As the time passed, the severe condemnation of hers changed into praise because Hester had experienced and lived a true moral development for expiation of her sin. However, Chillingworth had burned all his energy away in revenge of Dimmesdale. He eventually destroyed himself and metamorphosed himself into a devil. After all, Dimmesdale and Hester experienced moral growth through sin and suffering, and they became the elected persons. On the other hand, Chillingworth became the deserted person by committing unpardonable sin which is a sense of pride.

The purpose of this paper was to examine the effects of nostalgia which make readers feel positive thinking by analyzing “Old Road to Kang-neaung.” As the nostalgic themes are emerging as a new trend, the nostalgic marketing can be applied to various areas. The paper analyzed meaning of this work, and presented the specifications and significance of Lee, Sun-won``s literature as nostalgic phenomenon. The emotional components composed of nostalgia in this work are as follows: warmth, wound, frustration, anger, resistance, and reconciliation. Although the narrator suffers from the memories of his youth even when he becomes an adult, he overcomes his wound in his younger years by transferring his memories to the nostalgia. From this point of view, this kind of nostalgic novel can have a positive effect on the mental growth of visitors who are in search of self-identity. Also this work leads visitors to experience on essential human life with a more comprehensive view by encouraging them to reflect upon their surroundings. The new form of tourism strategy is necessary to broaden people`s awareness. One of the means is utilizing literary tourism for increasing desire of tourism. The concept of space through literature is a very important key to re-invigorate nostalgia. Therefore, this paper is more meaningful in the sense that it uses ``literature`` for drawing effective nostalgia tourism. To develop Kang-neung area, the paper introduced the tour course linking the literary space of this work.

Web-based analysis programs for reliability assessment of machine tools were developed in this study. First, the reliability data analysis program was developed to search for failure rate using failure data and reliability test data of mechanical part. Second, failure mode analysis was developed through performance tests like circular movement test vibration test for machine tools. This analysis program shows correlation between failure mode and performance test result. Third, tool life was predicted by correlation between flank wear and cutting time, using the extended Taylor tool life equation in turning data and the equivalently converted equation in order to apply ball endmill data to Taylor tool life equation in milling data. All the information related to input and result data can be stored in theses programs.

Shakespeare's romantic comedy, As You Like It in terms of the utopian role is concerned with more desirable ways of organizing human relationships. This comedy seems light and gay on the surface but actually deal with serious social problems. So it is interesting to note that this comedy which is characterized by the happy endings, is involved in the tension between the utopian vision and reality. This comedy explores the general nature of modern civilization in the context of pastoralism, where the equilibrium of civilization and nature can be discovered. And at the same time, this comedy shows that corrupted civilization is susceptible to renewal and reform by the lesson of the wilderness. This comedy end happily, but character such as Jaques is alienated from the happy ending. His characterization is complex, and his exclusion mars the comic resolution. In the civilized liberty of the forest of the Arden, young lovers achieve their love and the clowns, Touchstone and Jaques, are allowed to mock and satirize everything their values towards court and that of the forest. The forest in this comedy is presented as the shelter characters enter, escaping from the tragic 'real world.' They are the place where characters undergo changes, and the changes affect the 'real world,' leading the entire story to a happy ending. Arden forest in four couples who have fallen in love are changed and come to marry. Especially evil brothers, Oliver and Duke Frederick convert and become new men. The forest help characters solve interpersonal and circumstantial problems and, furthermore, lead to concord and reconciliation.

山羊精子의 代謝에 미치는 Sorbitol 과 Steroid Hormones 倂用의 影響에 관한 연구

本 實驗은 山羊精子의 代謝에 미치는 sorbitol 및 sorbitol+steroid hormones의 影響에 대하여 檢討할 目的으로 實施하였는데 얻어진 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1. 山羊精子의 呼吸은 sorbitol 의 添加에 의해 顯著히 促進되었다. 2. 精子의 呼吸促進物質인 sorbitol 과 스테로이드 호르몬의 倂用에서는 sorbit ol 의呼吸促進效果가 消失되었으며 스테로이드 호르몬의 强한 呼吸制御作用만이 나타났다. 3. 스테로이드 호르몬 중에서 呼吸制御作用이 가장 强하게 나타났던 것은progesterone이었고 比較的 弱했던 것은 testosterone이었다. Effect of sorbitol and sorbitol plus steroid hormones on the respiration of goat spermatozoa in vrtro have been studied. Gost semen were collected by the of artificial vagina. Respiration of washed spermatozoa was measured in Warburg manometer at 37℃in the persence of sorbitol(10 mM) and sorbitol (10mM)plus steroid hormones (100nM) Respiration of goat spermatozoa was markedly stimulated by the inculusion of sorbitol in the incrbation medium. In the presences of sorbitol plus steroid hormones, the rate of oxygen comsumption were markedly depressed. Progesterone was the most effective steroids in altering the metabolic paattern of the spermatozoa.

Ceftazidime의 임상적 연구 : 과립구 감소환자에서의 감염증에서 Piperacillin-Tobramycin 병합요법과의 비교연구 Ceftazidime or Piperacillin plus Tobramycin and the Possible Modifications Required for a Successful Outcome

In a randomized, prospective study, ceftazidime monotherapy was compared with a combination of piperacillin and tobramycin for the treatment of infection in febrile granulocyto penic cancer patients. The subjects consisted of 40 patients with acute leukemia or solid tumor who developed fever and other signs of infections after induction chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation. 21 patients were randomized to the piperacillin plus tobramycin combination, while 19 patients were allocated to ceftazidime monotherapy. Initial granulocyte count, duratation of granulocytopenia, infection days and granulocyte count on therapeutic responsewere all comparable in both treatment groups. On 72 hour assessment, success (with or with-out modification) rate according to NCI criteria was 100% in ceftazidime and 95% in combination group. Success according to EORTC criteria was 26% and 48% respectively. On posttreatment assessment, success rate according to MCI criteria was 91% in ceftazidime group and 70% in combination group, while one according to EORTC was 33% and 40% respectively. There was no statistical significance between the two success rates. The superinfection was more commonly seen in the combination group, esp. by resistant E. coli, even though the difference was not significant.
