강원도는 오랫동안 금속, 비금속, 석재 및 석탄과 같은 지하자원들을 공급하는 국내 주요생산지로 알려져 왔으나, 장기적인 채광과 비 계획적인 생산으로 인하여 매장량이 고갈되고 있으며, 대외적으로 생산 경쟁력 마저 잃어가고 있다. 이러한 문제점에 대한 해결방안의 일환으로 본 연구에서는 강원도내에 산재되어 있는 지하자원의 분포, 자원 생산시설 및 생산량, 경제성, 자원개발, 환경문제 등 자원관리에 필요한 제반사항을 수행할 수 있는 강원지역 자원 종합관리 GIS 시스템을 개발하였다. 이 시스템의 개발은 방대한 양의 정보 조사 및 저장, 오랜 개발기간, 많은 소요인력 및 개발 비용이 요구되기 때문에 본 연구에서는 조기에 자원관리 GIS 시스템을 개발하여 이와 관련된 생산 및 연구 분야에 조기에 적용할 수 있도록, 일차년도에는 현재 석재복합 신소재제품 연구센터의 집중적 연구대상 지역인 태백지역에 대한 탄광지역을 중심으로 자원 종합관리 GIS 시스템을 개발하였다. The Kangwon province has been well-known to be one of major underground resource producing districts which are mainly supplying metals, non-metals, stones, and coals. However, due to the long-term mining and unplanned production, the natural resource reserves have been rapidly drained and oversea production competition has been losing. In this study, we has developed a GIS system for regional resource management in the Kangwon province, which can operate, maintain, and manage the distribution of underground resources, resource production facilities, production and economic development, and environmental issues. The development of this system requires the collection, analysis, evaluation, and storage for a huge amount of research data, and in addition, the long period of time, the big research man power, and big development cost. Accordingly, to shorten the development period of time and to early apply itself to production, this stage of study has been intensively developed a regional resource GIS system for managing the mines scattered in the Tabak province, which is one of hottest RRC's research areas.

Background and aims: Sorafenib is the only approved treatment to advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its efficacy was relatively worse in the Asian-Pacific trial compared with the Global trial and clinical utility is limited by high cost. Several reports suggested survival benefit of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) in patients with advanced HCC with main portal vein invasion. This study is aimed to compare the efficacy of HAIC with sorafenib in HCC patients with main portal vein invasion. Methods: Patients of advanced HCC with main portal vein invasion who had received treatment between 2008 and 2012 at Korea University Medical Center were included. Sorafenib was initiated with 400 mg twice daily, and HAIC was performed with infusion of cisplantin 60mg/m2 for 1 day and 5-flurouracil 500mg/m2 for 3 days every 4 weeks. We evaluated overall survival (OS), time-to-progression (TTP), and disease control rate (DCR). Results: Seventy six patients were treated by sorafenib (n=37) or HAIC (n=39). Proportion of patients with Child-Pugh class A liver function (70% vs. 72%, P=1.000), ECOG performance status 0-1 (68% vs. 70%, p=0.431) and lymph node metastasis (41% vs. 36%, P=0.814) was not significantly different. Solid organ metastasis was more common in sorafenib group than HAIC group (46% vs. 7.7%, P<0.001). Median OS was 6.9 months and 11.1 months in sorafenib and HAIC group (P=0.100). TTP was 1.9 months (sorafenib) and 5.3 months (HAIC) (P<0.001). DCR was 34% (sorafenib) and 72% (HAIC) (P=0.006). In patients without solid organ metastasis, OS was 8.8 months (sorafenib) and 11.1 months (HAIC) (P=0.097). TTP was 1.9 months (sorafenib) and 6.0 months (HAIC) (P<0.001). DCR was 29% (sorafenib) and 76% (HAIC) (P=0.031). Conclusions: HAIC can be alternative treatment option for advanced HCC with main portal vein invasion, and could provide favorable disease control rate in those patients without solid organ metastasis.
Reflections on the US FDA's Warning on Direct-to-Consumer Genetic Testing

In November 2013, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent a warning letter to 23andMe, Inc. and ordered the company to discontinue marketing of the 23andMe Personal Genome Service (PGS) until it receives FDA marketing authorization for the device. The FDA considers the PGS as an unclassified medical device, which requires premarket approval or de novo classification. Opponents of the FDA's action expressed their concerns, saying that the FDA is overcautious and paternalistic, which violates consumers' rights and might stifle the consumer genomics field itself, and insisted that the agency should not restrict direct-to-consumer (DTC) genomic testing without empirical evidence of harm. Proponents support the agency's action as protection of consumers from potentially invalid and almost useless information. This action was also significant, since it reflected the FDA's attitude towards medical application of next-generation sequencing techniques. In this review, we followed up on the FDA-23andMe incident and evaluated the problems and prospects for DTC genetic testing.

<P>Abstract</P><P><I>Aplysia</I> CCAAT enhancer-binding protein (ApC/EBP), a key molecular switch in 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)-induced long-term facilitation of <I>Aplysia</I>, is quickly and transiently expressed in response to a 5-HT stimulus, but the mechanism underlying this dynamic expression profile remains obscure. Here, we report that the dynamic expression of ApC/EBP during long-term facilitation is regulated at the post-transcriptional level by AU-rich element (ARE)-binding proteins. We found that the 3′UTR of ApC/EBP mRNA contains putative sequences for ARE, which is a representative post-transcriptional <I>cis</I>-acting regulatory element that modulates the stability and/or the translatability of a distinct subset of labile mRNAs. We cloned the <I>Aplysia</I> homologue of embryonic lethal abnormal visual system homologue (ELAV/Hu) protein, one of the best-studied RNA-binding proteins that associate with ARE, and elucidated the involvement of <I>Aplysia</I> ELAV/Hu protein in ApC/EBP gene expressional regulation. Cloned <I>Aplysia</I> ELAV/Hu protein, <I>Aplysia</I> embryonic lethal abnormal visual system (ApELAV), bound to an AU-rich region within the 3′UTR of ApC/EBP mRNA. Additionally, ApELAV controlled the expression of ApC/EBP 3′UTR-containing reporter gene by functioning as a stability-enhancing factor. In particular, 5-HT-induced long-term facilitation was impaired when the AU-rich region within the 3′UTR of ApC/EBP was over-expressed, which suggests the significance of this region in 5-HT-induced ApC/EBP expression, and in the resultant formation of long-term facilitation. Our results imply that the <I>Aplysia</I> ARE-binding protein, ApELAV, can regulate ApC/EBP gene expression at the mRNA level, and accordingly, ARE-mediated post-transcriptional mechanism may serve a crucial function in regulating the expression of ApC/EBP in response to a 5-HT stimulus.</P>

This research descriptive and relational was conducted to identify any relationship between job satisfaction and fatigue of clinical nurses. The purpose of this study is to provide a basic source of data for an intervention program in increasing job satisfaction and diminishing the fatigue among clinical nurses. The sample consisted of 93 nurses of a university hospital located in Suwon. The data was collected in a one month period from June 1 to 30, 2000. The tools used for the study was a structured questionnaire titled "Job Satisfaction Index" developed by Brayfield and Rothe and the "Subjective Symptoms of Fatigue Test" designed by the Research Committee of Industrial Fatigue of the Hygienic Association of Japan. The data was analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean. standard deviation. Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA, and Cronbach's alpha by use of the SPSS. The results of the study are as follows: 1) The mean age of subjects was 27.04 years old. 29.0% of the respondents were Catholic religion and 73.1% were graduates of a 3 years course. 2) The job satisfaction level mean was reported as 58.15 and the standard deviation as 9.68. 3) The fatigue level mean was reported as 31.54 and the standard deviation was 12.69. 4) There was a significant correlation between the physical, psychological and neuro-sensory symptoms of fatigue. 5) There was a negative correlation between job satisfaction and fatigue (r=-.5734. p=.000) meaning if job satisfaction is high then fatigue is reported as low. 6) Job satisfaction was significantly related to the general characteristics of present position(t=-2.94, p=.004), working place(F=3.322, p=.013) and the expectant period of duty(F=9.277. p=.000). 7) The general characteristics influencing fatigue were significantly related to age(r=-193, p=.032), clirocal experience(F=3 691, p=.008), working place(F=2.469, p=050) and the expectant period of duty(F=2.823, p=.043).
