Potential Strategies in the Prevention of Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs-Associated Adverse Effects in the Lower Gastrointestinal Tract

        ( Chuan-guo Guo ),( Wai K. Leung ) 대한간학회 2020 Gut and Liver Vol.14 No.2

With the increasing use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the incidence of lower gastrointestinal (GI) complications is expected to increase. However, unlike upper GI complications, the burden, pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of NSAID-associated lower GI complications remain unclear. To date, no cost-effective and safe protective agent has been developed that can completely prevent or treat NSAID-related lower GI injuries. Selective COX-2 inhibitors, misoprostol, intestinal microbiota modulation, and some mucoprotective agents have been reported to show protective effects on NSAID-induced lower GI injuries. This review aims to provide an overview of the current evidence on the prevention of NSAID-related lower GI injuries. (Gut Liver 2020;14:179-189)

Establishment of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f. Hairy Root Culture and Optimization of Its Culture Conditions for the Production of Triptolide and Wilforine

( Chuan Shu Zhu ),( Guo Qeng Miao ),( Jia Guo ),( Yan Bo Huo ),( Xing Zhang ),( Jia Hua Xie ),( Jun Tao Feng ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2014 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.24 No.6

In order to solve the shortage of natural Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f. plant resource for the production of the important secondary metabolites triptolide and wilforine, hairy roots were induced from its root calli by Agrobacterium rhizogenes. Induced hairy roots not only could be maintained and grown well in hormone-free half-strength Murashige and Skoog medium but also could produce sufficient amounts of both triptolide and wilforine. Although hairy roots produced approximately 15% less triptolide than adventitious roots and 10% less wilforine than naturally grown roots, they could grow fast and could be a suitable system for producing both secondary metabolites compared with other tissues. Addition of 50 μM methyl jasmonate (MeJA) could slightly affect hairy root growth, but dramatically stimulated the production of both triptolide and wilforine, whereas 50 μM salicylic acid had no apparent effect on hairy root growth with slightly stimulatory effects on the production of both secondary metabolites. Addition of precursor nicotinic acid, isoleucine, or aspartic acid at the concentration of 500 μM had varying effects on hairy root growth, but none of them had stimulatory effects on triptolide production, and only the former two had slightly beneficial effects on wilforine production. The majority of triptolide produced was secreted into the medium, whereas most of the produced wilforine was retained inside of hairy roots. Our studies provide a promising way to produce triptolide and wilforine in T. wilfordii hairy root cultures combined with MeJA treatment.

Output-Feedback Control of a Class of Stochastic Nonlinear Systems with Power Growth Conditions

        Long-Chuan Guo,Xin Zuo,Hua-Qing Liang,Jian-Wei Liu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2014 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.12 No.2

This paper investigates the problem of output-feedback stabilization for a class of stochastic nonlinear systems in which the nonlinear terms depend on unmeasurable states besides measurable input. We extend linear growth conditions to power growth conditions and reduce the control effort. By using backstepping technique, choosing a high-gain parameter, an output-feedback controller is designed to ensure the closed-loop system globally asymptotically stable in probability. The efficiency of the output-feedback controller is demonstrated by a simulation example.

Case Reports : Surgical Treatment for 11 Cases of Penile Verrucous Carcinoma

( Chuan Yu Sun ),( Xu Ke ),( Zheng Jie ),( Guo Wei Xia ),( Zu Jun Fang ),( Qiang Ding ) 대한피부과학회 2011 Annals of Dermatology Vol.23 No.3s

Penile verrucous carcinoma is a rare, well-differentiated and low-grade tumor. The surgeons are deficiently aware about the biological behavior and the clinicopathological characteristic of this disease, which raises difficulties during the treatment. In our present study, the clinical and pathological data of 11 patients with penile verrucous carcinoma, aged between 49 to 85 years was retrospectively analyzed. The tumors exhibited exophytic, papillary, caulifower-like or verrucose lesions of great dimensions measuring between 2 to 10 cm on the penises. The tumors were located at glans in 6 cases, invaded the coronoid sulcus in 4 cases and invaded the shaft of the penis in 1 case. Eight cases underwent partial penectomy, while the other 3 were treated with local excision. The diagnosis of penile verrucous carcinoma was confirmed by histopathologic examination of the specimens with the negative surgical margins in all the cases. Within the period of 12 to 60 months of follow-up, all the patients were disease-free with no case of recurrence and metastasis. The novel knowledge and experience of the treatment of penile verrucous carcinoma will be a useful clinical guide for surgeons in the future. (Ann Dermatol 23(S3) S346~S349, 2011)

Output Tracking Predictive Control of Networked Systems with Two-channel Random Communication Constraints

        Chuan-Dong Bai,Tong Mu,Zhong-Hua Pang,Jian Sun,Guo-Ping Liu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.2

In this paper, the output tracking control problem is investigated for a networked control system with twochannel random network delays and packet dropouts as well as stochastic noise. To actively compensate for these random communication constraints in the feedback and forward channels, a novel networked predictive control (NPC) method is proposed based on the input-output difference equation model, where the two-channel communication constraints are handled separately according to their different features. Furthermore, different from the existing NPC methods based on round-trip time delays, actual control inputs rather than the predicted ones are employed to generate future control commands. Then a delay-independent closed-loop stability condition is obtained, and a condition to guarantee a zero steady-state output tracking error is derived. Also, theoretical analysis shows that the proposed NPC method can achieve the same output tracking performance as the corresponding local control system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated by simulation and experimental results.

Characterization of Ha29, a Specific Gene for Helicoverpa armigeraSingle-nucleocapsid Nucleopolyhedrovirus

        Chuan-Xi Zhang,Zhong-Jian Guo,Shi-Heng An,Dun Wang,Yan-He Liu,V. Shyam Kumar 한국생화학분자생물학회 2005 BMB Reports Vol.38 No.3

Open reading frame 29 (ha29) is a gene specific for Helicoverpa armigera single-nucleocapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearSNPV). Sequence analyses showed that the transcription factor Tfb2 motif, bromodomain and Half-A-TPR (HAT) repeat were present at aa 66-82, 4-76, 55-90 of the Ha29 protein respectively. The product of Ha29 was detected in HearSNPV-infected HzAM1 cells at 3 h post-infection. Western blot analysis using a polyclonal antibody produced by immunizing a rabbit with purified GST-Ha29 fusion protein indicates that Ha29 is an early gene. The size of Ha29 product in infected HzAM1 cells was about 25 kDa, which was larger than the presumed size of 20.4 kDa. Tunicamycin treatment of HearSNPV-infected HzAM1 cells suggested that the Ha29 protein is N-glycosylated. Fluorescent confocal laser scanning microscope examination, and Western blot analysis of purified budded virus (BVs), occlusion-derived virus (O DVs), cell nuclear and cytoplasmic fraction, showed that the Ha29 protein was localized in the nucleus. Our results suggested that ha29 of HearSNPV encodes a non-structurally functional protein that may be associated with virus gene transcription in Helicoverpa hosts.

Strain Rate Effects on the Mechanical Properties of an AlCoCrFeNi High-Entropy Alloy

        Chuan Ting Wang,Yong He,Zhiping Guo,Xiaohui Huang,Ying Chen,Houan Zhang,Yuan He 대한금속·재료학회 2021 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.27 No.7

The efect of strain rate on the compressive properties of an AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) was investigated. Microstructure of the AlCoCrFeNi HEA was observed using scanning transmission microscopy (SEM) and transmission electronmicroscopy. The results showed formation of a homogeneous two-phase structure. Quasi-static compression was testedunder initial engineering strain rates between 10–4 and 10–2 s−1. Engineering compression stress of exceeding 2500 MPaand ductility of around 12% was achieved. Dynamic mechanical behavior at room temperature was characterized by a splitHopkinson pressure bar under strain rates between 1350 and 4000 s−1. The AlCoCrFeNi HEA exhibited high strain ratesensitivity, especially under dynamic compression. The fuctuation of yield strength and the variation of strain rate hardening with strain rate was investigated. The various parameters of a constitutive equation for deformation of the AlCoCrFeNiHEA were obtained from the experimental data. The constitutive equations can be applied to predict the strength of alloyunder various stain rates.

Effect of hydrogen-rich water on the lactic acid level in metformin-treated diabetic rats under hypoxia

        Chuan Zhao,Yushu Guo,Ruoxi Wang,Cheng Cheng,Xiangmei Chen 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 2021 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.25 No.6

The present study aims to investigate the impact of hydrogen-rich water on the lactic acid level in metformin-treated diabetic rats under hypoxia. Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups, including normal diet group, and diabetes model (DM) group, DM + metformin treatment (DMM) group, DMM + hypoxia treatment (DMMH) group and DMMH + hydrogenrich water (DMMHR) group. We found that the levels of lactic acid, pyruvate and lactate dehydrogenase were significantly lower in the blood of DMMHR group than DMMH group. Superoxide dismutase and glutathione levels in liver and heart were significantly higher in DMMH group after hydrogen-rich water treatment, while malondialdehyde and oxidized glutathione levels were decreased in DMMHR group when compared with DMMH group, which indicates that hydrogen-rich water could reduce oxidative stress. qPCR analysis demonstrated that that pro-apoptotic genes Bax/Caspase-3 were upregulated in DM group and metformin treatment suppressed their upregulation (DMM group). However, hypoxic condition reversed the effect of metformin on apoptotic gene expression, and hydrogen-rich water showed little effect on these genes under hypoxia. HE staining showed that hydrogen-rich water prevented myocardial fiber damages under hypoxia. In summary, we conclude that hydrogen-rich water could prevent lactate accumulation and reduce oxidant stress in diabetic rat model to prevent hypoxia-induced damages. It could be served as a potential agent for diabetes patients with metformin treatment to prevent lactic acidosis and reduce myocardial damages under hypoxic conditions.

Effect of Crystal Structure and Hydrogen Bond of Thermoplastic Oxidized Starch on Manufacturing of Starch-Based Biomass Composite

        Chuan-Wei Zhang,Fang-Yi Li,Jianfeng Li,Qi Xie,Jie Xu,An-Fu Guo,Cheng-Zhao Wang 한국정밀공학회 2018 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.5 No.3

Starch-based biomass composites were prepared with starch and plant fiber. In order to improve the properties of the compos ites, oxidized starches (OS) were prepared using hydroxyl peroxide as oxidizer, then glycerol was added into OS as plasticizer to produce thermoplastic oxidized starches (TPOS). Crystal structure, hydrogen bonds of TPOS were researched to gain comprehensive views on the mechanism of the property differences between the starch-based composites with native starch, OS and TPOS. The changes of crystal structure were analyzed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Starch intermolecular hydroxyl changes were investigated using the method of infrared spectrum analysis. It was found that the new hydrogen bonds were formed between the plasticizer, oxidizer and starch, and the starch intermolecular bonding force was weakened. The structure of starch crystallization was destructed in TPOS. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that cross reaction with oxidization and plasticization changed the crystal structure, glass transition process was not observed in TPOS. The tensile and compressive strengths of composite based on TPOS were improved greatly and mechanical properties were not weakened obviously with water content increased. All the results indicated that TPOS could improve the properties of starch-based composites.
