        Utility Evaluation of Information from YouTube on Breastfeeding for Preterm Babies

        Purpose: Many studies have reported the merits of breastfeeding, and increasing efforts are made to encourage breastfeeding for preterm babies. Recently, YouTube is being increasingly used as a source of medical information. We evaluated the quality of information provided on YouTube on breastfeeding for preterm babies. Methods: On June 20, 2018, we performed a YouTube search using four terms related to breastfeeding for preterm babies. Of the 355 videos in the first five pages, 78 were analyzed; videos with irrelevant content (n=200), duplicated material (n=71), and those using another (non-Korean) language (n=6) were excluded. Videos were classified according to upload source and usefulness, and were evaluated based on reliability and quality. Results: Medical websites or TV channels (46.2%) and physicians or hospitals (12.8 %) were the most and least common upload sources, respectively. The usefulness of the information was rated the highest in physician or hospital-uploaded videos (70.0%). The reliability of the physician or hospital-uploaded (2.70±1.42) and medical website or TV channel-uploaded (2.91±1.42) videos were statistically significant. The highest proportion of good quality videos (≥good) (60.0%) comprised physician or hospital-uploaded videos. Of the videos evaluated, 44.9% were useful. The highest proportion of useful videos comprised those uploaded by medical websites or TV channels (68.6%). The highest proportion of non-useful videos comprised civilian videos (80.8%). Conclusion: Physician or hospital-uploaded videos were more useful and had excellent reliability and quality; however, these had the least amount of information. Development of educational programs by experts that can be accessed by public through popular platforms like YouTube is necessary.

        Efficacy of Serum Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio for Meconium Aspiration Syndrome

        Objective: To evaluate the relationship between serum neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and severity of meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 197 neonates who admitted for MAS between 2008 and 2016 at the neonatal intensive care unit of Dong-A University Hospital. The serial changes of NLR were analyzed from 1st to 3rd day of life. The NLR was compared by disease severities (non-invasive respiratory care group vs. invasive respiratory care group and MAS with or without persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn [PPHN]). Results: The NLR values from 1st to 3rd day of life were changed significantly increased and then decreased (P=0.031). The NLR of invasive respiratory care group was significantly higher than non-invasive respiratory care group at 2nd, 3rd, and average of 1 to 3 days of life. The NLR of PPHN group was significantly higher than without PPHN group at 3rd, and average of 1 to 3 days of life. Conclusion: The NLR was significantly increased and then decreased in early stage of MAS and associated with the severity of MAS.

        Unique Unfoldase/Aggregase Activity of a Molecular Chaperone Hsp33 in its Holding-Inactive State

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The various chaperone activities of heat shock proteins contribute to ensuring cellular proteostasis. Here, we demonstrate the non-canonical unfoldase activity as an inherent functionality of the prokaryotic molecular chaperone, Hsp33. Hsp33 was originally identified as a holding chaperone that is post-translationally activated by oxidation. However, in this study, we verified that the holding-inactive reduced form of Hsp33 (<SUP>R</SUP>Hsp33) strongly bound to the translational elongation factor, EF-Tu. This interaction was critically mediated by the redox-switch domain of <SUP>R</SUP>Hsp33 and the guanine nucleotide-binding domain of EF-Tu. The bound <SUP>R</SUP>Hsp33, without undergoing any conformational change, catalyzed the EF-Tu aggregation by evoking the aberrant folding of EF-Tu to expose hydrophobic surfaces. Consequently, the oligomers/aggregates of EF-Tu, but not its functional monomeric form, were highly susceptible to proteolytic degradation by Lon protease. These findings present a unique example of an ATP-independent molecular chaperone with distinctive dual functions—as an unfoldase/aggregase and as a holding chaperone—depending on the redox status.         Effects of Origins of Soybean Meal on Growth Performance, Nutrient Retention and Excreta Microflora of Broilers

        An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of origins of soybean meal (SBM) on growth performance, nutrients and energy retention and fecal microflora in broilers. The SBM originating from Korea, Brazil and India were used. A total of 480 broiler chicks (average initial BW, 41.8 g) were randomly allotted to 6 treatments. Each treatment had 4 replicate pens with 20 chicks per pen. Birds were fed diets containing SBM originated from Korea (domestic SBM), Brazil or India (imported SBM) and the diets were based on the total amino acid (TAA) or true digestible amino acid (TDAA). Experimental diets were fed in two phases, starter (d 0~21) and finisher (d 22~35). The overall weight gain, feed intake and FCR were better (P<0.05) in birds fed Korean SBM. During starter and finisher periods, birds fed diets containing Korean SBM had greater (P<0.05) retention of GE, DM, and CP (P<0.05) as compared with Birds fed diets containing SBM from India. In addition, diets formulated on TDAA basis had grater (P<0.05) CP retention during starter period and DM, GE and CP retention during finisher period. There were no differences (P>0.05) in the excreta microflora and overall feed cost per kg body weight gain in birds fed SBM from different origins; however, diets formulated on TDAA basis had lesser (P<0.05) feed cost per kg body weight gain in birds when compared with diets formulated on TAA basis. These results indicate that Korean SBM has better nutrients digestibility than SMB originated from Brazil and India, which contributes to the improved performance of broilers. In addition, better performance was obtained when diets were formulated on TIDAA basis.

        Structural assessment of the tetramerization domain and DNA-binding domain of CP2c

        Although the transcription factor CP2c has been recently validated as a promising target for development of novel anticancer therapy, its structure has not been solved yet. In the present study, the purified recombinant protein corresponding to the tetramerization domain of CP2c appeared to be well folded, whereas the Elf-1 domain showed a largely unfolded conformation. Particularly, the Elf-1 domain, which contains the putative DNA-binding region, showed a conformational equilibrium between relatively less-ordered and well-ordered conformers. Interestingly, addition of zinc shifted the equilibrium to the relatively more structured conformer, whereas zinc binding decreased the overall stability of the protein, leading to a promoted precipitation. Likewise, a dodecapeptide that has been suggested to bind to the Elf-1 domain also appeared to shift the conformational equilibrium and to destabilize the protein. These results constitute the first structural characterization of the CP2c domains and newly suggest that zinc ion might be involved in the conformational regulation of the protein.

        Effects of Origins of Soybean Meal on Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility and Fecal Microflora of Growing Pigs

        This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of soybean meal(SBM) of different origin(Korea, India or Brazil) on performance, fecal microflora and economics of grower pigs. A total of 144 grower pigs(initial BW, 10.4kg) were randomly allotted to six treatments on the basis of BW. Pig`s diets containing SBM were formulated based on the total amino acid(TAA) or true ileal digestible amino acid(TIDAA) levels. Pigs fed domestic SBM diets had greater(p<0.05) overall ADG, ADFI and final body weight and apparent total tract digestibility(ATTD) of DM, GE and CP(phases I, II and III) than those fed diets containing SBM originated from India or Brazil. Moreover, greater(p<0.05) ADG, ADFI, feed /gain (F/G), and ATTD of DM, GE and CP were observed in response to diets formulated on a TIDDA basis when compared with those formulated on a TAA basis. The fecal microflora was not affected(p>0.05) by dietary treatments. The overall feed cost per kg body weight gain was less(p<0.05) for diets formulated using domestic SBM than for those containing SBM from India, while the feed cost per kg body weight gain was less(p<0.05) for diets formulated prepared on a TIDAA than a TAA basis. These results indicate that domestic SBM has better quality than SBM imported from Brazil or India and better performance was obtained when diets were formulated based on the true ileal digestible amino acid(TIDAA) content.

      • 농작업 재해예방 E-learning 프로그램의 사용성 평가

        Objective: 고령 농업인을 대상으로 효과적인 E-learning 프로그램을 제공하기 위해 체계적인 연구 방법 및 절차를 수립하여 E-learning 프로그램을 개발하였고, 이에 대해 사용성 평가를 실시하였다. Background: 선행 농작업 관련 재해 예방 교육 자료들은 책자 위주의 단방향 접근방법으로 교육의 흥미를 떨어뜨리며 동기부여 및 이해도가 낮아 학습 효과를 기대하기 어렵다. 따라서 사용자 인터페이스가 간결하고 이해하기 쉬우며 양방향 상호작용하여 필요한 안전 지식을 습득할 수 있는 프로그램이 필요하다. Method: 7명의 농촌지도사와 14명의 농업인들이 e-러닝 프로그램의 사용성을 평가하였다. 두 그룹은 프로그램을 시청한 후 효율성, 학습(교육)용이성, 만족도에 대하여 5점 척도로 평가하였다. 설문평가 후 프로그램의 대한 자유로운 토의를 진행하였다. Results: 연구 결과 e-러닝 프로그램의 전반적인 효율성, 학습용이성, 만족도는 높았으며, 고령 농업인이 쉽게 조작할 수 있었으며, 농업지도사의 교육용으로 적합한 것으로 평가되었다. Conclusion: 고령농업인의 흥미를 갖고 농작업 안전 관련 정보를 접할 수 있는 e-러닝 프로그램을 통하여 농업의 안전문화 형성에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

        산란계 사료 내 사과박 발효물 및 계피의 첨가 · 급여가 생산성 및 계란 품질에 미치는 영향

        본 시험은 산란계 사료 내 사과박 발효물의 첨가가 산란계 생산성, 계란 품질 및 장내 미생물 변화에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 57주령 Hy-Line을 200수를 공시하여 5처리, 4반복, 반복당 10수씩 배치하여 10주간 사양 시험을 실시하였다. 시험구는 무첨가구(Control, C)와 산란계 사료 내 생균제 0.1% 첨가구(T1), 사과박 발효물 1.0% 첨가구(T2), 계피 0.1%첨가구(T3) 및 계피를 첨가한 사과박 발효물 1.0% 첨가구(T4)로 처리구를 나누어 시험을 실시하였다. 시험 전기간 동안 총 산란율에서는 각 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 인정되지 않았으나 대조구와 비교하였을 때 생균제 및 발효 사과부산물 첨가구에서 6.1% 개선되는 결과를 나타내었다. 계피 0.1% 첨가구에서는 무첨가구 대비 4.5% 개선되는 결과를 나타내었다. 시험 기간 동안 계란 품질 조사 결과 전체 처리구에서 유의적인 차이는 없었으나, 신선도의 경우 무첨가구와 비교 시 발효 사과 부산물 처리구에서 1.2%의 개선 효과를 나타내어 안전 양계 산물 생산에 대한 가능성을 나타내었다. 시험 전 기간 동안 혈액 생화학 및 혈구에 대해 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 결과적으로 산란계 사료 내 발효 사과 부산물의 첨가 · 급여는 산란계에 있어 생산성에 대해 개선 효과를 가지며, 향후 곡물 수급의 불안정 및 양계 분야에 대체 자원의 필요성을 고려할 때 농산부산물을 활용한다는 점에서 충분한 가능성을 시사한 결과라 할 수 있다. This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of fermented apple pomace (FAP) and cinnamon on laying performance, egg quality and blood characteristics in laying hens. A total of two hundred 57-wk-old Hy-Line laying hens were divided into five groups with 4 replicates of 10 birds each; control, 0.1% probiotics, 1.0% fermented apple pomace 1.0%, 0.1% cinnamon and 1.0% fermented apple pomace with 1.0% cinnamon. Chickens fed the diets containing 1.0% of fermented apple pomace showed higher egg production than the chickens fed the other diets. No synergic effect on laying performance was found when fermented apple pomace and cinnamon were added to the diets in laying hens. There was no significant major differences in egg quality and serum blood biochemical profiles. These results suggest the possibility that fermentation of apple pomace could be used as the alternative of antibiotic growth promoters.
