Structural and electrical properties of La-Sr-Mn-O ceramics with Bi3+ content for thermistor devices

La0.7Sr0.3-xBixMnO3 (LSBMO) (0.025 ≤ x ≤ 0.15) films are fabricated by a sol-gel method and spin-coating method. All of thefabricated films have typical polycrystalline perovskite structures. In addition, no preferential orientation or impurity couldbe observed. The surface SEM images show almost homogeneous and uniform microstructures and the average thickness forthe LSBMO films is approximately 230 to 260 nm. When the resistivity is measured at room temperature, the TCR andB85/25-values gradually increases as the amount of Bi3+ increased, and the highest values of 0.023 mΩ·cm, 0.31%/°C and 299K are obtained in the La0.7Sr0.225Bi0.075MnO3 thin films. Polycrystalline LSBMO films follow the variable-range hopping (VRH)conduction model as they show electron-electron scattering and electron-phonon interactions for thermal stimulation.

Thin Film CaF₂ for a TFT Gate Insulator Material

This paper presents material properties of CaF₂ films grown on Coming 1737 glass plates, Al coated glass substrate, and p-type Si substrate with (100) orientation. The XRD analysis on CaF₂/glass and CaF₂/Al/glass illustrated strong (111) and weak (220) peak intensity. The best lattice constant on glass substrate was 0.5459 nm corresponding to 5 % lattice mismatch with Si. Such a low lattice mismatch promises high quality thin film Si growth on CaF₂/Al/glass or CaF₂/glass substrate. For an MIS structure of Al/CaF₂/Si, we observed epi-like CaF₂ film growth with a major XRD peak at (200) on (100) p-type Si. The MIS capacitor exhibited a breakdown electric field greater than 1.27 MV/cm, a leakage current density lower than 10^(-7) A/㎠, and a relative dielectric constant greater than 4.1. By carrying out investigations on CaF₂ film growth on Si substrate, this paper demonstrates the best lattice mismatch as low as 0.7 % and average surface roughness of about 8.4 A. Capacitance versus voltage results on MIS structure of CaF₂ show interface state densities of as low as 1.8×10^(11) cm^(-1)eV^(-1). We present electrical properties in conjunction with the structural properties of CaF₂ films.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><B>Background:</B></P><P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic implication of asphericity (ASP); spatial irregularity; of pretherapeutic <SUP>18</SUP>F 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose (<SUP>18</SUP>F FDG) tumor uptake in patients with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast.</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>One hundred thirty-one female IDC patients (mean age = 48.1 ± 10.4 years), with pathological tumor size greater than 2 cm were retrospectively evaluated using <SUP>18</SUP>F FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). ASP of <SUP>18</SUP>F FDG distribution was calculated on the basis of the deviation of the tumor shape from spherical symmetry. Progression-free survival (PFS) was predicted on the basis of the univariate and multivariate analyses of the measured clinicopathologic factors and metabolic PET parameters [maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG)].</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>The PFS rate among the 131 patients was 90.1%. The mean follow-up time was 50 months for the entire study cohort and 26 months for the patients with recurrent disease. It is evident from the univariate analysis that N stage, hormonal receptor (Estrogen, ER/Progesterone, PR) status, MTV (≤4.2 mL), and ASP (≤15.1%) affected the PFS. Hazard ratios (HRs) estimated from the multivariate Cox regression analysis show that N stage (HR = 17.6), ASP (HR = 11.9), and hormonal receptor status (HR = 6.9) were independent prognostic factors in predicting PFS. In the subgroup of patients with lymph node metastasis, ASP (HR = 10.9) and hormonal receptor status (HR = 9.1) were independent prognostic factors for PFS.</P><P><B>Conclusion:</B></P><P>ASP of <SUP>18</SUP>F FDG uptake is an independent predictor of outcome in IDC patients, and can be used for prognostic stratification.</P>
