Testing the Asset-seeking Hypothesis: through the Investments of Chinese and Indian Firms in Europe

We use the investments of Chinese and Indian MNCs in Europe to test the hypothesis that the main motivation of the Southern MNCs for investing in the Northern countries is asset- or technology- seeking. After showing that the previous work has not adequately tested this hypothesis due to its use of country-level FDI flow data, we conduct our tests with count data models tests. The results reveal that this motivation for Chinese MNCs is strong, whereas Indian MNCs, due to their excessive concentration in the UK and in software sector, have a weaker asset-seeking motivation than Chinese MNCs.

The electro-rheological fluids for semi-active suspension system are a class of colloidal dispersion which e h b i t large reversible changes in their rheological behavior when they are subjected to external electrical fields. This paper presents Bingham properties of ER fluids subjected to temperature variations. In addition. an appropriate size of the ER damper for a passenger car is proposed to investigate the effects of Bingham characteristics on the damping performance. The filed-dependent damping forces are evaluated according to the temperature variation and sedimentation ratio.

This paper presents Bingham properties of electrorheological(ER) fluids subjected to temperature variation. To do this, two types of ER fluids are made of arabic gum and methyl cellulose(M.C.). The particle concentration by weight ER fluids is 30% and 25%, respectively. The dynamic yield shear stress and current density of the ER fluids are experimentally distilled as a function of electric field and temperature varying from -5℃ to 80℃.
Current Status and Future Challenges of Transition Finance : Using Cases from Japan and Europe

전 세계적으로 탄소중립을 향한 움직임이 가속화되면서 조기 탈탄소화가 어려운 기업의 저탄 소 전환을 위한 자금조달 방안으로 전환금융이 주목받고 있다. 조기 탈탄소화가 어려운 산업 이 많은 일본은 탄소중립 전환에 높은 우선순위를 두고 이를 추진하기 위한 전환금융의 제도 마련을 서두르고 있다. 그러나 이런 전환금융은 아직 초기 단계로 많은 과제를 안고 있다. 전 환금융이 탄소중립화에 기여하고 국제적 신뢰를 얻기 위해서는 부문별 로드맵을 고도화하고 금융기관에 대한 지원을 강화하며 기업의 활용을 촉진하는 방안을 마련하는 것이 중요하다. 따라서 본 고에서는 전환금융 생태계 구축을 위한 방안으로 유럽과 일본에서 확대되고 있는 전환금융 정책과 동향을 살펴보고자 한다. 그리고 화석연료 의존도가 높고 일본과 산업구조가 유사한 우리나라에 대한 정책적 시사점을 제시해보고자 한다. Purpose : This study analyzes the current status of transition finance policies and regulations that are expanding in the European Union and Japan as a way to build a transition finance ecosystem, and considers policy implications for domestic introduction. Research design, data, methodology : The data used in this study was analyzed through the the International Capital Market Association’s guidelines for achieving carbon neutrality, the regulatory status of the European Union and Japan, and the information and research data published on the official websites of each public institution. Results : Transition finance refers to a new financial technique aimed at supporting the response when the emission reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission are reduced based on a long-term strategy to achieve a carbon-neutral society due to climate change Conclusions : In order for transition finance to contribute to carbon neutrality and gain international confidence, it is important to improve sectoral roadmaps, strengthen support for financial institutions and promote the use of companies as means of raising funds for low-carbon transformation.
Photoinactivation of major bacterial pathogens in aquaculture

Background: Significant increases in the bacterial resistance to various antibiotics have been found in fish farms. Non-antibiotic therapies for infectious diseases in aquaculture are needed. In recent years, light-emitting diode technology has been applied to the inactivation of pathogens, especially those affecting humans. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of blue light (wavelengths 405 and 465 nm) on seven major bacterial pathogens that affect fish and shellfish important in aquaculture. Results: We successfully demonstrate inactivation activity of a 405/465-nm LED on selected bacterial pathogens. Although some bacteria were not fully inactivated by the 465-nm light, the 405-nm light had a bactericidal effect against all seven pathogens, indicating that blue light can be effective without the addition of a photosensitizer. Photobacterium damselae, Vibrio anguillarum, and Edwardsiella tarda were the most susceptible to the 405-nm light (36.1, 41.2, and 68.4 J cm.2, respectively, produced one log reduction in the bacterial populations), whereas Streptococcus parauberis was the least susceptible (153.8 J cm.2 per one log reduction). In general, optical density (OD) values indicated that higher bacterial densities were associated with lower inactivating efficacy, with the exception of P. damselae and Vibrio harveyi. In conclusion, growth of the bacterial fish and shellfish pathogens evaluated in this study was inactivated by exposure to either the 405- or 465-nm light. In addition, inactivation was dependent on exposure time. Conclusions: This study presents that blue LED has potentially alternative therapy for treating fish and shellfish bacterial pathogens. It has great advantages in aspect of eco-friendly treating methods differed from antimicrobial methods.
