        Fundamentals of developing application software for Korean language are to provide basic library of supporting string processing. The technology of Korean character processing has been recently moved from string processing to language information processing. However many existing libraries do not support language information and just support input/output of string. Since current Hangul code KSC 5601-1987 code does not have consonant and vowel information of Korean syllable. Therefore each research group should develop Hangul code and its library what they need and replicated investment and waste of time are caused. Besides most languages of developing applications are also changed from procedural language to object-oriented language. This approach enhances productivity of software development and contributes economics for maintenance. Thus, existing libraries should be converted to object-oriented approach. In this paper, we design and develop class library on Visual C++ for Korean language processing in order to achieve the above described goals.

        열산화 처리에 따른 Ti-Ag 합금의 표면 특성

        Thermally oxidized Ti-Ag alloys, cp-Ti and Ti-A14V was investigated to find the proper heat treatment temperature and heat treatment duration for dental application. Surface microtopology by SEM showed oxide particles formed on all specimens treated at 600℃ and coarse, fully-crystallized lumps on specimens treated at 800℃. In macroscopic roughness measurement, Ra ranged from 0.083 to 0.29 }μm resulting from scratching by #600 emery paper; for non-contact method, from 0.34 to 2.84 nm resulting from the contour by oxide crystals on and between the ridges. The thicknesses of oxide layers were presumed to range from 100 to 250, 250 to 700, and over 1700 A for specimens treated at 400, 600, and 800℃, respectively. Oxide layers separated from the matrices on the cross sections of specimens atmosphere cooled after heat-treated at 800℃, which was not observed on those treated at 600℃. Oxidation behaviors of Ti-Ag alloys were observed to be similar to those of cp-Ti specimens by XRD analyses: TiO2 growth on surfaces followed by coexistence with Ti203's as treatment temperature increased; TiO growth followed by spread of both rutiles and Ti203's with temperature increase on specimens treated for 4 hours. Alumina was detected on Ti6A14V specimens, where microgaps between layers of alumina and titania considerably reduced the adhesive force of tinania layers on matrices. Conclusively, heat treatment temperature was more significant than treatment duration and the most desirable temperature was determined to be 600℃. (Received January 19, 2004)

        Extended Draf IIb Procedures in the Treatment of Frontal Sinus Pathology

        Objectives. Draf IIb approach provides wide, unilateral access to the frontal sinus. This approach can be extended without destruction of the contralateral frontal sinus drainage pathway, performed during Draf III (modified Lothrop) procedure. There is limited data in the literature regarding the use of modified Draf IIb procedures. Methods. Patients treated with extended Draf IIb procedures in a single center were retrospectively assessed. Results. Ten patients were identified, including 2 cases of osteoma, 1 inverted papilloma, 1 carcinoma, 5 mucoceles, and 1 chronic rhinosinusitis patient. Six patients had undergone prior surgery, including external procedures in 3 cases. Modifications of Draf IIb were classified as the following: removal of the anterosuperior nasal septum adjacent to the nasal beak, removal of the intersinus septum, and a combination of the above-mentioned methods (upper nasal septum and intersinus septum removal). There were 3 patients operated on with type 1 modification, one patient with type 2 modification, and 6 patients with type 3 modification. There were no perioperative complications. Conclusion. In selected cases, extended Draf IIb procedures are safe and effective in the treatment of frontal sinus disease.

        Envelope development and variation in Trachelomonas hispida (Euglenophyta)

        In Trachelomonas hispida, the adult envelope that surrounds the monad is oval in shape and covered with spines. Developmentof the lorica is an interesting, but poorly known phenomenon. We observed in detail the formation of spinelessenvelopes of T. hispida using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that youngcells formed delicate and net-like envelopes. The structure changed with age, and mature specimens had solid, thick loricaewith small pores. As the loricae aged, they changed their shape, and rope-like fibres from the external layer startedto unwind, progressing from the apical pore, exposing the underlying net-like structure. X-ray spectrometry showed thatFe was the major mineral component in young and mature loricae, whereas old loricae did not contain Fe salts, althoughthey did contain a high number of Mn compounds. We also noticed a different pattern of mineralization process in theenvelopes. Apart from the even distribution of mineral deposition over the entire lorica, we observed that it started fromthe apical pore and ended at the posterior end. There was considerable morphological variation in envelope shape andornamentation, which had collars and folds around the apical pore and process at the posterior end. This suggested thatmany varieties of T. hispida should be taxonomically reappraised. We also discuss a hypothetical role for the spines onlorica surfaces in aquatic ecosystems.

      • 과학과 인지적 영역의 평가에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to find out students' cognitve abilities in science lessons. Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives' Klopfer's Specification for Science Education, and Piaget's cognitive Development Theory were reviewed to build the evaluating tool. The contents of the constructed tool includes 33 percents' experimental items, and the rest were non-experimental. In the evaluating methods three types of questioning were adopted : multiple choice(79%), short answer test(l5%). and essay typy(6%). Data were collected from 359 students' who are attending middle schools in two cities in Cheju-do. To find out the statistical facts, students' scores were calculated into mean, standard deviation and percentile. The analysis of the data showed the following results : The average score of students' scientific thinking ability is around 58.3 which stands for lower state of thinking ability than expected. Students got higher scores in questions on the experimental-observational contents of learning. It seems that students understand this content of learning more easily than the others. However, students got very lower scores in the contents of learning which include such higher mental-processes as secondary, synthetic functions. It suggests that teachers ought to pay more attention to this content of learning to stimulate students higher mental ability. Score distribution and higher mental function showed positive relationship. The study has made certain that through the evaluating frame of cognitive domains we can assess students ability on the experimental areas of learning except the manual skills, even if paper tests are practiced.

      • 학교주변 소음실태의 비교조사 연구 : 제주도 초·중학교를 중심으로

        The conditions of noise pollution around the elementary schods, the middle schools, and the high schools near the highway around the Cheju-do and those in cheju city are investigated. Thirteen percents of schools near the highway around the Cheju-do suffer noise pollution. So do sixty percents of schools in Cheju city. The causes of noise are due to the location of schools near the road and the bus stops. klaxon and overspeed of cars. and insufficient measure for the noise control.
