      • Capacities expected of Chinese English Translation Students Surveying Prospective Employers in Australia and China

        This paper discusses findings of a recent survey of employability for Chinese English translation students in Australia and China. Basically the survey addresses two questions with a focus on the second. No. 1, what are job/career opportunities like in each jurisdiction? No. 2, what capacities are expected of successful candidates?The survey identified and coded keywords and then tallied their frequencies to generate evidence on the basis of which a list of findings were made. One finding was that a wide range of capacities in addition to translation skills was expected of the candidates. Another finding was that some of the additional capacities, including notably English competence and communication, are seen as more important and valuable than translation skills. Furthermore, some capacities and qualities (e.g.,accuracy and faithfulness), which were of great concern to translation researchers and trainers, appeared to be irrelevant to prospective employers of translators. These and other findings of the survey provided cause for a number of academic reflections.

        Adsorption Behavior and Mechanism of Tripolyphosphate on Synthetic Goethite

        In order to study the transport behavior of tripolyphosphate (TPP) in aqueous solutions, the adsorption process of TPP on synthetic goethite, which exists stably in supergene environment, has been systematically studied. The adsorption properties under different conditions (pH, electrolyte presence, and temperature) were investigated. The adsorption of TPP in the presence of humic acid (HA)/fulvic acid (FA) has also been discussed in this paper. The results indicated that the adsorption capacity quickly increased within the first hour and equilibrium was reached within 24 h. The adsorption capacity decreased from 1.98 to 0.27 mg·g<sup>-1</sup> upon increasing the pH from 8.5 to 11.0, whereas the adsorption of TPP on goethite hardly changed with increasing electrolyte concentration. The results of analysis of the kinetic and isothermal models showed that the adsorption was more in accord with the pseudo second-order equation and Freundlich model. The adsorption capacity decreased obviously regardless of the order of addition of TPP, HA, and goethite. Subsequent addition of FA led to a large increase in the adsorption capacity, which might be attributed to the adsorption ability of FA. According to the predictions of the kinetic and isothermal models and the spectroscopic evidence (X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM)), the adsorption mechanism may be mainly based on surface complexation and physical adsorption.

      • Translation Matters Impact of two English renditions of one Chinese political text on international readers

        This paper begins with a brief historic review of political translation in China but its main concern is with investigating the impact of two English renditions of a text authored by a Chinese leader and widely publicised in China. One rendition had been produced for a ‘journalistic’ purpose and is seen as ‘faulty’. The other had been produced by ‘accuracy-minded’ translators and is seen as the official ‘correct’ version. The investigation was designed to address three questions. Question 1 was whether the two translations impacted differently. Question 2 was, if and where they did evoke significantly different responses, which one received a more positive response. Question 3 was on what basis the respondents formed their assessments. A number of surprise findings emerged, providing cause and evidence for reflections on some of the familiar claims made about translation.

        Study on the Gas-liquid Flow Characteristics in the Reversing Bucket of Water Jet Propulsion

        To investigate the gas-liquid two-phase flow characteristics in the reversing bucket of water jet propulsion, the numerical simulations based on the Euler-Euler inhomogeneous model was conducted to the internal flow field of the reversing bucket under 1%~12% different inlet gas volume fractions (α). Based on that, the gas distribution, gas-liquid velocity streamlines and thrust changing were obtained to discuss the gas-liquid flow characteristics and the influence on the thrust of the reversing bucket. The calculation results show that the gas mainly distributes in the inner part of the reversing bucket flow passage under different inlet gas volume fractions. On the condition that the inlet gas volume fraction is more than 2%, the gas accumulation has occurred in the inlet section of the flow passage. With the increasing of inlet gas volume fraction, average velocity and pressure increase gradually at each cross-section of reversing bucket flow passage, and at the higher gas concentration in each cross-section, where the vortex will exist, indicating that the gas concentration has a great relationship with the vortex aggregation in the reversing bucket flow passage. When the inlet gas volume fraction is 7%, the thrust reaches the maximum. It shows that the appropriate gas can effectively improve the thrust efficiency of the reversing bucket.

        An Outlook on Rotordynamic Pump Theory Development

        ECHO progress was defined to depict the rotordynamic pump theory development. Experience (E) era for pumps lasted nearly one and a half hundred years before the Industrial Revolution due to the low rotation speed of motor and undeveloped manufacture ability. Classic (C) theory referring to quasi-static performance as well as the items those were not able to be steadily resolved under the level were briefly and sophisticated outlined. Since 1962, flow instabilities and the dynamic responses had come into main attention with the development of the modern technologies such as ballistic missile, rocket and space shuttle main engine, and were finally heuristically (H) elucidated by talented scholars and researchers. Recently, new applications for the pumps open (O) to the surrounding fluid and diversity of the medium such as multiphase flow need more studies and some examples were briefly introduced to display the potential problems lastly.

        <P>In cold pulse experiments in J-TEXT, not only are rapid electron temperature increases in the core observed, but also steep rises in the inner density are found. Moreover, some evidence of acceleration of the core toroidal rotation is also observed during the non-local transport process of electron temperature. These new findings of cold pulse experiments in J-TEXT suggest that turbulence spreading is a possible mechanism for the non-local transport dynamics.</P>

        Does adenocarcinoma have a worse prognosis than squamous cell carcinoma in patients with cervical cancer? A real-world study with a propensity score matching analysis

        Objective: To compare survival outcomes between cervical adenocarcinoma (ADC) andsquamous cell carcinoma (SCC) using a propensity score matching (PSM) analysis based onthe Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program. Methods: Patients diagnosed with cervical cancer between 1998 and 2016 were identifiedfrom the SEER database. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis were used toanalyze survival. A subgroup analysis of overall survival (OS) between patients with ADC andSCC was performed after the 1:1 PSM analysis. Results: Of the 33,148 patients, 24,591 (79.19%) had SCC and 8,557 (25.81%) had ADC. In theunmatched cohort, after adjustment in multivariate analysis, patients with ADC had a worseprognosis than patients with SCC (hazard ratio [HR]=1.12; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.07–1.18; p<0.001). In the propensity matched cohort, Kaplan-Meier analysis and subgroup analysisshowed that ADC was associated with a worse prognosis than SCC (p=0.001). An analysisstratified by SEER stage revealed a worse prognosis for patients with ADC patients presentingwith a regional disease than patients with SCC (HR=1.24; 95% CI=1.14–1.36 p<0.001), but nostatistically significant differences were observed between the localized disease (HR=0.97; 95%CI=0.86–1.10; p=0.664) and distant disease (HR=1.09; 95% CI=0.97–1.22; p=0.162) subgroups. Conclusion: The significant differences in survival outcomes between patients with cervicalADC and SCC were only observed in the regional disease subgroup, but not in the localizeddisease and distant disease subgroups.

        Robust Transceiver Designs in Multiuser MISO Broadcasting with Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transmission

        In this paper, we address a new robust optimization problem in a multiuser multiple-input single-output broadcasting system with simultaneous wireless information and power transmission, where a multi-antenna base station (BS) sends energy and information simultaneously to multiple users equipped with a single antenna. Assuming that perfect channel-state information (CSI) for all channels is not available at the BS, the uncertainty of the CSI is modeled by an Euclidean ball-shaped uncertainty set. To optimally design transmit beamforming weights and receive power splitting, an average total transmit power minimization problem is investigated subject to the individual harvested power constraint and the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio constraint at each user. Due to the channel uncertainty, the original problem becomes a homogeneous quadratically constrained quadratic problem, which is NP-hard. The original design problem is reformulated to a relaxed semidefinite program, and then two different approaches based on convex programming are proposed, which can be solved efficiently by the interior point algorithm. Numerical results are provided to validate the robustness of the proposed algorithms.

        Outage Constrained Robust Beamforming for Secure Broadcasting Systems With Energy Harvesting

        <P>In this paper, we investigate simultaneous wireless information and power transfer systems for multiuser multiple-input single-output secure broadcasting channels. Considering imperfect channel state information, we introduce a robust secure beamforming design, where the transmit power is minimized subject to the secrecy rate outage probability constraint for legitimate users and the harvested energy outage probability constraint for energy harvesting receivers. The original problem is non-convex due to the presence of the probabilistic constraints. With the aid of Bernstein-type inequalities, we transform the outage constraints into the deterministic forms. Based on a successive convex approximation (SCA) method, we propose a low-complexity approach, which reformulates the original problem as a second-order cone programming problem. Also, we prove the convergence of the SCA-based iterative algorithm. Simulation shows that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional method with lower complexity.</P>
