Multiscale Adaptive Local Directional Texture Pattern for Facial Expression Recognition

( Zhengyan Zhang ),( Jingjie Yan ),( Guanming Lu ),( Haibo Li ),( Ning Sun ),( Qi Ge ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2017 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.11 No.9

This work presents a novel facial descriptor, which is named as multiscale adaptive local directional texture pattern (MALDTP) and employed for expression recognition. We apply an adaptive threshold value to encode facial image in different scales, and concatenate a series of histograms based on the MALDTP to generate facial descriptor in term of Gabor filters. In addition, some dedicated experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the MALDTP method in a person-independent way. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method achieves higher recognition rate than local directional texture pattern (LDTP). Moreover, the MALDTP method has lower computational complexity, fewer storage space and higher classification accuracy than local Gabor binary pattern histogram sequence (LGBPHS) method. In a nutshell, the proposed MALDTP method can not only avoid choosing the threshold by experience but also contain much more structural and contrast information of facial image than LDTP.

On the increments of a $d$-dimensional Gaussian process

        Zhengyan Lin,황교신 대한수학회 2005 대한수학회지 Vol.42 No.6

In this paper we establish some results on the increments of a $d$-dimensional Gaussian process with the usual Euclidean norm. In particular we obtain the law of iterated logarithm and the Book-Shore type theorem for the increments of a $d$-dimensional Gaussian process, via estimating upper bounds and lower bounds of large deviation probabilities on the suprema of the $d$-dimensional Gaussian process.

Transcriptome-wide characterization of the WRKY family genes in Lonicera macranthoides and the role of LmWRKY16 in plant senescence

        Cao Zhengyan,Wu Peiyin,Gao Hongmei,Xia Ning,Jiang Ying,Tang Ning,Liu Guohua,Chen Zexiong 한국유전학회 2022 Genes & Genomics Vol.44 No.2

Background: Lonicera macranthoides is an important woody plant with high medicinal values widely cultivated in southern China. WRKY, one of the largest transcription factor families, participates in plant development, senescence, and stress responses. However, a comprehensive study of the WRKY family in L. macranthoides hasn't been reported previously. Objective: To establish an extensive overview of the WRKY family in L. macranthoides and identify senescence-responsive members of LmWRKYs. Methods: RNA-Seq and phylogenetic analysis were employed to identify the LmWRKYs and their evolutionary relationships. Quantitative real-time (qRT-PCR) and transgenic technology was utilized to investigate the roles of LmWRKYs in response to developmental-, cold-, and ethylene-induced senescence. Results: A total of 61 LmWRKY genes with a highly conserved motif WRKYGQK were identified. Phylogenetic analysis of LmWRKYs together with their orthologs from Arabidopsis classified them into three groups, with the number of 15, 39, and 7, respectively. 17 LmWRKYs were identified to be differentially expressed between young and aging leaves by RNA-Seq. Further qRT-PCR analysis showed 15 and 5 LmWRKY genes were significantly induced responding to tissue senescence in leaves and stems, respectively. What's more, five LmWRKYs, including LmWRKY4, LmWRKY5, LmWRKY6, LmWRKY11, and LmWRKY16 were dramatically upregulated under cold and ethylene treatment in both leaves and stems, indicating their involvements commonly in developmental- and stress-induced senescence. In addition, function analysis revealed LmWRKY16, a homolog of AtWRKY75, can accelerate plant senescence, as evidenced by leaf yellowing during reproductive growth in LmWRKY16-overexpressing tobaccos. Conclusion: The results lay the foundation for molecular characterization of LmWRKYs in plant senescence.

Decentralized Fault Estimation and Distributed Fault-tolerant Tracking Control Co-design for Sensor Faulty Multi-agent Systems with Bi-directional Couplings

        Chun Liu,Zhengyan Yu,Ron J. Patton 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.3

This study proposes a co-design framework of decentralized fault estimation and distributed fault-tolerant tracking control schemes of Lipschitz nonlinear multi-agent systems with external disturbances and unpredicted sensor faults. To begin with, the sensor fault is actively hidden in the extended state through augmented transformation, and the decentralized unknown input observer based on extended dynamics is applied in synchronously estimating system state and sensor fault. Then, the updated link-based fault-tolerant tracking control protocol is proposed by virtue of the estimated information from estimation dynamics and the relative output signal from neighboring agents in a distributed fashion. The proposed co-designed algorithm guarantees the state consensus tracking property and overcomes the bi-directional couplings between the estimation and tolerance systems. Simulation example of multi-machine power systems verifies the effectiveness of the proposed co-designed algorithm.

Physiological responses and small RNAs changes in maize under nitrogen deficiency and resupply

        Zhenchao Yang,Zhengyan Wang,Chengcheng Yang,Zhao Yang,Hongquan Li,Yongjun Wu 한국유전학회 2019 Genes & Genomics Vol.41 No.10

Background Maize is an important crop in the world, nitrogen stress severely reduces maize yield. Although a large number of studies have identified the expression changes of microRNAs (miRNAs) under N stress in several species, the miRNAs expression patterns of N-deficient plants under N resupply remain unclear. Objective The primary objective of this study was to identify miRNAs in response to nitrogen stress and understand relevant physiological changes in nitrogen-deficient maize after nitrogen resupply. Methods Physiological parameters were measured to study relevant physiological changes under different nitrogen conditions. Small RNA sequencing and qRT-PCR analysis were performed to understand the response of miRNAs under different nitrogen conditions. Results The content of chlorophyll, soluble protein and nitrate nitrogen decreased than CK by 0.52, 0.49 and 0.82 times after N deficiency treatment and increased than ND by 0.52, 1.36 and 0.65 times after N resupply, respectively. Conversely, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) increased by 0.67 and 1.64 times than CK after N deficiency, respectively, and decreased by 0.09 and 0.35 times than ND after N resupply. A total of 226 known miRNAs were identified by sRNA sequencing; 106 miRNAs were differentially expressed between the control and N-deficient groups, and 103 were differentially expressed between the N-deficient and N-resupply groups (P < 0.05). Real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) was used to further validate and analyze the expression of the identified miRNAs. A total of 1609 target genes were identified by target prediction, and some differentially expressed miRNAs were predicted to target transcription factors and functional proteins. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis was used to determine the biological function of these targets and revealed that some miRNAs, such as miR169, miR1214, miR2199, miR398, miR408 and miR827 might be involved in nitrogen metabolism regulation. Conclusion Our study comprehensively provides important information on miRNA functions and molecular mechanisms in response to N stress. These findings may assist to improve nitrogen availability in plants.

Multi-scale Local Difference Directional Number Pattern for Group-housed Pigs Recognition

( Weijia Huang ),( Weixing Zhu ),( Zhengyan Zhang ),( Yizheng Guo ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2021 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.15 No.9

In this paper, a multi-scale local difference directional number (MLDDN) pattern is proposed for pig identification. Firstly, the color images of individual pig are converted into grey images by the most significant bits (MSB) quantization, which makes the grey values have better discrimination. Then, Gabor amplitude and phase responses on different scales are obtained by convoluting the grey images with Gabor masks. Next, by calculating the main difference of local edge directions instead of traditionally edge information, the directional numbers of Gabor amplitude and phase responses are encoded. Finally, the block histograms of the encoded images are concatenated on each scale, and the maximum pooling is adopted on different scales to avoid the high feature dimension. Experimental results on two pigsties show that MLDDN impressively outperforms the other widely used local descriptors.
